Fuck, if only three sludge bands make the majority, there can't be more than 4 or 5 of them.Charmicarmicat said:Crowbar, Eyehategod and Buzzov.en are hipster bands?
I think I'll be going to that one too.corkscrewblow said:I'm so there.

Those bands (at least Crowbar and Eyehategod) worship Black Sabbath just as much as bands like black flag, melvins etc. so I don't really know what you wanted to prove with that.Charmicarmicat said:I was just giving an example of the sort of bands in the genre, to show that the genre is about as far away from hipster as you can get. Out of the "latest" sludge bands I always recommend Cult of Luna, they have a real sense of how to make epic songs that slowly progress in intensity and never become boring. They have 12 minute songs that to me seem like 5. I´d also love to see them live :/

WHOAguitarninja said:Did you like Soil's Song? The small bit of rhythmic experimenting they did on that song is extended significantly further and with more powerful results here. Though that's not the only new ingredient. You can really tell they took a 3 year writing break to refine their ideas into a strong whole here.

Ordered it this morning. This is probably the last big release of the year for me. I'm pretty excited. The title track is killer.vatstep said:Profound Lore put the new Krallice up for order, for those of you that were interested. They ship from Canada (Toronto area), but I'm in the States and it's never added more than a couple of days to average USPS shipping time for me they're pretty fast at sending stuff out.
It is with great regret that Slayer announces the postponement of its "Canadian Carnage" tour with Megadeth, which was due to begin on November 8. In addition, the band announces the postponement of its appearance on "Jimmy Kimmel Live," which had been set for this Wednesday, November 4. More information will be released shortly regarding the rescheduling of the Canadian dates, as well as the 'Kimmel' appearance.
Slayer's Tom Araya is currently under the care of a specialist for a back injury, thought to be related to his on-stage activity, and the physician has ordered an immediate surgical procedure to take place in Texas tomorrow (Tuesday) morning.
"What is foremost in our minds right now is that Tom do whatever he needs to to get this taken care of," said Slayer's Kerry King. "While all four of us are disappointed that we won't be able to see through all of our commitments set for the next few weeks, the most important thing is Tom's health. We thank the fans in Canada and here in L.A., the Megadeth camp, and everyone associated with 'Jimmy Kimmel Live' for their understanding. We look forward to seeing you all soon."

I like Obscura most, but all of their albums are good. From Wisdom to Hate is probably my least favorite, although a lot of people like it as it's sort of a melding of their different styles. Very interested to see what the next one is like.corpserot said:What Gorguts album is generally considered the best? I really like Considered Dead.
Looking forward to it. US has to wait an extra week though, boo.Greg said:The new Katatonia is so fucking amazing, although it probably took at least 10 listens to sink in - probably one of my top 5 for the year right now.

Seriously, sludge and doom are being pretty much carried by the hipsters this decade. Many old doom bands are now watered-down wuss rock or some shit and most of the metal shows playing nowadays that aren't lame tech death/deathcore are by hipsters, for hipsters. Let's face it; hipsters have infiltrated metal. Seriously, bringing up three of the few traditional sludge bands from the early-mid 90s, back when sludge was doom/hardcore punk/Southern rock, and before it's developed into what it is now is like comparing early heavy metal when the metallers still looked like hippies and not leather-clad and studded.

Nah, scenesters are. In the 80s was the hair metal in terms of "false" metal, then nu-metal in the 90s, and now metalcore in the aughts, though metalcore is far more redeeming than the previous two.Flynn said:I missed that exchange earlier.

Yeah we're ending up in a circular argument here. To me it seems that you're automatically assuming that all uses of the word hipster are pejorative (e.g. when GAF learned and abused the term ad nauseam a month or two ago) and why my obaervations of the past four or five years of the sludge/doom scene were met with such opposition from you.Charmicarmicat said:I was giving examples of bands influenced by Melvins, to show the bands they influenced aren't hipster, which was the original argument and something you have just agreed with.
