Alright bitches...any fan of Agalloch would love this band, Mar De Grises, its doom/black/acoustic/penis/melodic

Also they released "Streams Inwards" back in 2010. It's quite good overall just listen to this track:Mar De Grises- Shining Human Skin

The sound quality aint that great and doesn't help much so this youtube link will do.

Anyone can reccomend me a really great Instrumental Metal Album? I am kind of revising for my exams and I think lyrics are distracting me.

Not sure what exactly you're after, but Liquid Tension Experiment come to mind.

Scale The Summit makes great background prog rock/metal, check out both their albums.

Pelican - Australasia

I was going to mention Canvas Solaris as well, but it does require a lot of attention. Very technical, just like Scale The Summit.

Animals as Leaders. Absolutely incredible instrumental prog metal. I actually met the guitarist at a show, a real classy guy. Seriously check them out.

+1. Best instrumental metal band right now and Tosin is a beast. Innovative guitar playing.

Exivious - jazz fusion metal (think Cynic, minus vocals, up with the bass)

Bongripper - Satan Worshipping Doom.

The Angelic Process - Weighing Souls With Sand (dronish, sludgy stuff. does have vocals, but they're pretty much ethereally indistinguishable)

Long Distance Calling - dmnstrtn, satellite bay and avoid the light - post-rock with distinctly metal vibe. last album is probably the best.

I'm going to see Manowar at the Agora in Cleveland on March 12th.

I'm both excited and pissed.

Excited because I fucking love Manowar. This'll be my 3rd time seeing them (2005 in Philly, 2008 at MCFII, and now in 2011).

Pissed because they had the gall to charge $75 for tickets. I mean, come the fuck on.

For sure. That man is incredible. I want him to make an album with BTBAM... That's the dream anyways :lol

yes yes fuck yes.

All Bongripper albums are an absolute must.

The Angelic Process is fucking incredible too. Very My Bloody Valentine-ish, but heavier.

you might dig Asbestoscape. Not metal per se, but great melancholic stuff.

did anybody else here see Crowbar on their tour that just ended a copule weeks ago? I have been listening to them for about 10 years, and I saw them for the first time during this tour. I was not disappointed at all, I felt they sounded just as good live as they do recorded. They didn't play half the songs I would have liked them to, but I guess I can't be too mad considering they have 20 years worth of music to choose from.

They played a song off their upcoming album, and honestly I'm pretty impressed. I feel when a band has been together as long as they have, it is common for the quality of the music to quickly decline. If the new songs are any indication, this album will hold up with my favorites.

Can you recommend me some bands? I like metal but only if it has good riffs, I don't like mindless droning and harmonics.

I like Pantera, Bullet For My Valentine, Metallica, Killswitch Engage (only My Curse really :/ ) what else do you think I'd like? I'm probably looking for some emo-style bands in all honesty, I've heard some Korn songs on Youtube and that's exactly what I don't want, bland shit.

They will be touring the UK through January, but plan on doing another US tour after the new album drops February 8th. Hopefully they'll be playing near you, I was so stoked to finally see them live.

I remember the guitarist used to put things out a bunch of years ago.. called himself.. bulb i think? There was one track that I absolutely loved. I think it was called ms doppertunity or something. Pretty rad. Wonder if I can find it again.

That's wicked. I used to listen to them in the mid 90s, but kind of faded away a bit. I bet they're still as heavy as their music, both in tone and well, they were always some big dudes. :D

I saw Crowbar last summer in a small club in my town. Alsmost like a private show...I went backstage (had talked to the "guard" earlier about music and stuff for a while...good for me he just let me pass!) and got autographs from the band on my t-shirt and Kirk's pick. :D Yay! Concert was good and loud. They even played a snippet of Black Sabbath's Into the Void between two songs.

well, they were always some big dudes.
Kirk is tiny! I was kind of shocked when he stood in front of me and I had to look down! Some guy even took some photos of me and him but I forgot to ask for an e-mail so he can at least send them. :lol

Looks like Triviums tasty riffs might be up your alley. Also, check out Lamb of God.

Damn, took the words right out of my mouth.

I would definitely check out Trivium's "Ascendancy," "The Crusade," and "Shogun." All pretty damn awesome. For Lamb of God, EASILY "Ashes of the Wake."

Also check out the following:

Empyrios - "Glorious Sickness"
Machine Head - "Burn my Eyes"
Mercenary - "Architect of Lies"
Anything by Shadows Fall most likely
Mastadon - Especially "Blood mountain" and "Crack the Skye"

Yeah, they're pretty good. Their drummer is in Agalloch, too.

Aesop Dekker is my favourite thing about Marrow of the Spirit. Agalloch finally became the awesome black metal band they've always hinted at being, all thanks to Dekker's immaculate blasting.

As for Ludicra, The Tenant is probably their "weakest" release, but that's pretty mild criticism. Make sure not to miss the EPs, though, some killer material on there. Especially Walk the Path of Ash: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lJM2uHCMhZo

I think you might dig latter-era In Flames:

Trigger: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=esWqSqSTFa4
Mirror's Truth: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J0D3Cpy6UB4

I personally mainly dig the early, dirtier stuff, but it's really hard to argue with the riffing, especially around the choruses. If you dig them, check out other Gothenburg bands like At The Gates.

Another, heavier route would be something like Opeth: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mfT1A5Caq84

They're usually a lot more death-metally, but Porcelain Heart was the most emo-song I could find. They always tend to have really epic riffs though.

Both those bands tend to be gateway drugs into the death metal scene, but are way more accessible.

Also: Death have some absolutely awesome riffs, mixing the more doomy stuff with plenty of thrashy/deathy riffs. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=woML9M5UBSc

Another road entirely is to check out the more emoish hardcore/post-hardcore bands. I'm not a big fan of the genre as such, but More Than Life put out one of the best albums of 2009 regardless of genre. If you dig that, move on to other similar bands. I dig La Dispute and Refused a lot, though the latter do employ some atmosphere/samples.

Oh, they moved to a more BM sound on Marrow? That sucks, I just finished Ashes and loved it. I hope it's not too dissimilar.

The only real change is in the drumming, which is decidedly more black metal. The guitar work, vocals, atmosphere and so on are still very much the same vein as the earlier albums.

Audio is pretty good.

Dude sounds very good, his voice does have that smoothness that is pretty similar to Khan. I wonder if he is truly done with Kamelot, that would be a shame.

Also, I'm going to the Manowar show in Cleveland as well, it's a 6 hour drive for me and my friend but who knows if they are ever coming back, so it must be done.

The 75 bucks was a fucking shock to me as well. :lol But hey, I ended up paying anyways.

Signs seem to point to Khan being done sadly. And I guess it has little to do with a meltdown. Honestly, it doesn't put him in a good light at all which is why I think the band hasn't opened up about it in case he does change his mind.

all win.

look past the lyrics and you'll find something magical and refreshingly unique with Arghoslent:
Archaic Invincibility
Manacled Freightage

brilliant riffing.

Damn it. His performances on Karma through Ghost Opera are superb and some of my favorite vocal work ever. I suppose we'll see but I didn't know it was this serious.

the drumming isn't the problem on marrow, it's just a boring album, it might be nice background music if you're trying to fall asleep or read a book.

Riffs are good but I just can't go past the lyrics. no fuckin way....I can't and would not ever support a band that has racist ideologies and have affiliations with racist/skinhead groups such as Hammerskin. Nor do I support NSBM as well. Shit like that needs to fuck off.

yea, easily a controversial band. I don't support any of their lyrics or idealogies, but their musicianship and craftsmanship is fucking brilliant. If they weren't such shitty musicians no one would be saying anything.
