The Mortal Kombat Spoilers Thread of ... spoilers in a fighting game?

What the fuck?! @ cyber sub-zero's ending. :|

I wonder if thats a canon ending since it's done differently than the other endings. No voice over and much more art. At the same time though it seems like all of the endings are just "what ifs" and the only canon is the story mode.

Either way, Sub-Zero got a raw deal in this game

The problem with this is that you end up fragmenting the community. With DLC characters, you're basically forcing everyone to buy them to stay up-to-date. I personally prefer the Capcom approach with re-released "super" editions. They're technically very similar, but the bundled releases are a lot more convenient to new consumers.

They could offer both choices, do a years worth of DLC and then release a new Super Version with it all bundled

Yeah, I wonder why.

Yeah but you might as well just give Rain a classic MK1 costume too if he ever comes in. I get the lazy part, I'm just being kind of nitpicky because it doesn't make much sense...
As you said, it was just a nod to the origins and the whole "error macro thing". Wouldn't surprise me if for Skarlett, they do something similar and give her a red MKII-female ninja pallete swap. :p

anyone else have a hard time getting to the 4 secret chests in the krypt? i almost had one and then moved a bit and couldn't get back to it.

You need to look at/hover above the bugs for a few seconds before it pops up.

That would be great

Uh, how would it fragment the community? Everyone gets DLC characters, only people who buy them can actually use them. You can play against people with DLC characters even if you haven't bought them yourself. That's how it's worked so far in Blazblue and that's how costumes work in SF4.

Not to mention that the "super" versions are the ones that fragment the community. Seeing as it's a whole different fucking game. SSF4 had what, 10 new characters then still had DLC? 40$ for 10 characters seems fine seeing as 2 will probably cost us 10$ in MK but guess what? YOU ALREADY PAID 60$! I don't think they will add that many characters anyway. Maybe 2 or 3 DLC characters packs.

I have 2 questions.

1. After the first MK tournament, why did Raiden let the bad guys strong arm him into another one so soon? Surely by invading Earthrealm they we're going against the rules laid down by the Elder Gods.

2. Why is the bad guys are allowed to have two fighters in some tournament matches at the same time? Doesn't seem even remotely fair.

My guesses:

1) Invading is fair game. Merging is not.

2) Outworld has constantly been bending or outright breaking rules, but since the Elder Gods never act it's ok.

That's pretty shitty. Oh well what can you do, right?

The Shao Kahn battle questions come up so often in both threads that it may as well become info on the first post here. Maybe even spoiler tagged in the other one too. I mean, once you understand it, it's less aggravating. However, it's a hard thing for players to simply realize on their own...

Anyway I'm done with story mode and have about 60 challenges under my belt in the tower. The tower is pretty fun. Extra challenges via DLC packs would be something I'd welcome. There's so many 1-off odd things so far that I wouldn't mind repeats. But for now I'm focusing on ladder mode. I'd like to unlock every ending as well as the front/back throw and fatality achievements in one long sweep.

And speaking of achievements, that "mastering every character" requirement is just bullshit. Everything would be acceptable on how to master them except for that 24 hour time requirement... That's 672+ hours of game time for God's sake.

Oh, and I wish developers would stop focusing so hard on online-only achievements. Especially when you consider circumstances like this (where playing online is hardly enjoyable ATM). Overall online should be a bonus, not a huge part of the unlock list.

/end rant (Sorry to sound negative, I'm just nit-picky on an otherwise AWESOME game).

Even though it was a frustrating fight overall I loved what they did with Shao Kahn in this game. They made him look and act like a bad ass and he was pretty tough to kill.

I didn't like his ending -- it's the lamest of all I've seen... the rest are rather good... I liked Quan-Chi's :)

In a way, I like that the alternate timeline made cyber sub-zero, as I never liked the "unmasked" sub-zero from UMK3. His moves were okay, but the character design made me iffy since I've always been team frosty. :)

Ok Shao Kahn just snapped Kung Lao's neck. WTF?!!! These bad guys are so fucking assy.
Khan was such an asshole. I like Kung Lao, he was fun to play in story. I was surprised that almost everyone died, even Liu Kang was killed by Raiden.

I liked the story but I knew immediately who was the one who had to win.

Any compilation videos of the arcade mode endings someone might be willing to link me to pretty please ?

Agreed. He won the armageddon battle which included every MK fighter (even presumably besting Onaga after the previous game showed Kahn getting abducted by him). Also in the final battle, Raiden really only won with the help of the elder gods.

By the way, anyone think the ending leaves Kahn's death not so certain? All we see is him getting attacked by the elder god dragons that assisted Raiden in battle, then Kahn's body disappearing in a light that shoots up to the sky. The elder gods may have had some other fate set for him...

Regardless, we are to assume that Kahn is gone to let the Shinnok story take place. I'll be interested to see how the story deviates now from the previous Deadily Alliance/Onaga/Armageddon story line. I'm going to guess that Quan Chi screws Shinnok over in the next game.

Why does Motaro have to die :-(

I wanted him as DLC...
They probably didn't want to modify x-rays & moves for everyone to work against motaro. It's the same reason why the bosses aren't as big as they used to be. They wanted the bosses to be x-rayed and at one point I wouldn't be surprised if they were playable... In fact I still won't be surprised if there's some secret to make them playable that either hasn't been found yet or hasn't been enabled yet.

My only boss related bummer is that kintaro used to look more bad ass. He should've been more orange and more muscular.

Deadly Alliance by itself was seen as a joke and never made as much of an impact on the general gamers as this game seemingly has had, so I don't see how that had anything to do with the next few games.

Deadly Alliance had great sales and resurrected the Mortal Kombat brand for the entire PS2/Xbox/Gamecube Generation, only hindered by Midways financial position forcing out a ton of sequels to it.

Probably. That's what happened in MK4 anyway.

This is my theory on why most there are basically only three playable character model types: men, women, and sheeva (and the men and women are the same height).

Wow, this is like the best story in a fighting game... in terms of delivery.

Anyways, even on beginner, since I was playing for story, got my ass whooped in a few fights. Especially Shao Khan. Had to use so many cheap tricks.

Spoiler:
Liu Kang is a dimwit.

Just go through them all yourself on Beginner, 1 Round. The endings are so much more satisfying after you've gotten used to playing as the character. Not only that, the arcade ladder acts as basic training for each character.

It might take a few hours, but it's still a lot of fun. (I even did each person's fatality 8 times a piece.)

What is this about and where are they?
Deadlands: Approach the tomb of DL45, head left towards DL52, look forward and right a little. Find the bugs that appear near a patch of grass. These green bugs signify a chest.
Hollow of Infestation: Follow the wall from the lake where the area starts, walk along the six skulls and look for the bugs that appear under them.
Bloodmarsh: Head right from BM81 under the skull on the wall.
Meadow of Despair: From the back row head left from the left most iron maiden, on top of a slight mound you'll find more bugs. Bugs = loot!

apparently unlock the klassic costumes

Have you seen his Arcade mode ending? Let's just say that doesn't work out too well. :P

Yeah. I've played through everyone's Arcade ladder and seen their endings. All of them combined make for a great way to head the story in a new direction.

Bad-guy Liu Kang could be awesome.

I also like Johnny Cage as a warrior of the Order Realm.

How do I select them? I'm right in front of the green cloud of like spiders in the Deadlands, but it won't highlight and display the koin cost.

Just hover over them for about 10 seconds. The chest will pop up and cost nothing. If it doesn't pop up you may need to adjust yourself. They are tricky to get right.

Haha. Just refreshed the page before saying that I figured it out. Thanks though. haha 5000 koins.

Found the four green ones. Went back to the Hollow of Infestation to buy some more stuff, and found a tree with Red spiders. I'm thinking this has got to be another secret one, right? So there's 4 green, probably 4 red... and maybe some other colors?

EDIT:
Went looking for the others, came empty handed, came back to the tree with the Red Spiders, but they weren't there. Waited like 5 seconds and they started to trickle into appearance on the tree. Still haven't found the right spot to select them, but these make me realize finding the others are going to be hard since they don't appear until you sit still where they are supposed to be. The green ones were viewable from a bit of a distance.

OK, WTF. open the tree behind it and spiders start climbing that tree too, so I feel discouraged, open the tree behind that, but NO spiders spawn...

I'm confused now.

The red spiders aren't related to the green bugs which signal a hidden chest. They just seem to climb random trees in that area.

Yeah, but after finding the four green bug chests there wasn't anything unlocked besides the 20k koins.

disappointing.

Well...yeah...what else did you expect? The chests only having koins has been posted quite a few times in this thread and even on this page of the thread.

God's Beard hinted to Retro outfits.

The 4 secret chests doesn't unlock the retro outfits. Each has 5,000 coins inside; aside getting 20k in total for the 4 of them, it doesn't unlock anything else.

I've got a question about stage fatalities. The online moves I've read simply says "Varies" as distancefor each character. I'm only used to the uppercut style stage fatality, which is always up close. So, Does that mean that the LOCATION I'm supposed to be in is different for each stage, or my distance from the character is different for each stage? Meaning, for the tree one, do we have to be by a certain tree, or whatever? Or that depending on the stage, I just have to be either close, jump, or sweep away?
