The Mortal Kombat Spoilers Thread of ... spoilers in a fighting game?

Well since she randomly shows up tied up in the coliseum, I'd hope her model is on the disc.

She also shows up in her alt costume sometimes.
I Know, She's also got a Kameo in the story mode.. i've always wanted to C=K something!

interesting, if they find a way to expand story mode to include these DLC characters i'd bite.

I don't think they would be able to expand story mode, that would just be shoehorning them in. Plus, most people will be done with story mode anyway (plus there's no selectable chapters). Unless you meant giving DLC characters their own ending in ladder mode, which I'm sure they'll do.

Looks like whatever hack they did to find Scarlett, her model is on the disc. But her special moves / portrait aren't. Hopefully all the online problems they've been having isn't going to slow them down on releasing new content. Different teams working on each, maybe?

Well it's no secret the model is on the disc since you can see it when fighting in the coliseum :)

But that video is definitely new.
Tanya (MK4) is also in that stage if you select Kitana.

Holy shit! They actually gave a second woman pants! Of course, her ginormous boobs are still only half covered. I don't mind cheesecake...at all. But it would be nice for the ladies to have *some* costume choices that didn't make them look like strippers.

Also, she looks to be an actual ninja, in the same way Scorpion is the only "true" ninja left from the men.

Yeah, all the women in this game look like hoebags, i'd like to see this tanya, going to play now!

Yeah, it was really awkward looking that every female fighter in the game have barely any clothes, only as much as to cover boobs and other private parts :/. I really doubt Sonya would be even able to zip up her west.

Would it really killed NR to design some sexy, but still practical clothes for female fighters?

Since the story ending is basically a cliffhanger, can we expect a DLC ending down the road or is that up for MK10 to resolve?
I am not accustomed how Netherrealm studios usually handle these things.

Dunno if youve finished ladder mode. But the characters Ive finished it with have endings that dont nake sense with whatever happened in story. Liu Kang fighting Raiden and becoming a god. Sub Zero joining forces with Scorpion. Come to think about the sub zero ending makes a great introduction to a Shaolin Monks kinda game. Imagine that being done by NRS and Santa Monica. Omg one can only dream about this.

Still MK has never made any sense. Its now that by playing the story it left us before MK4 since every MK game after that, sucked. So now theyre trying to fake time travel to make up for it?

Story mode is canon, ladder mode endings are what-ifs.

So cliffhanger are nothing unusual then and this wont be resolved in this game (DLC), I suppose.

I would venture to guess that we'll have to wait till the next game to get a resolution. It looks more like a way for them to have a new story in the next game. Seems too big to be resolved in DLC.

Wonder if they'll take on multiple installments in the next game again. ie. Shinnok, Onaga and Taverk(sp?) getting rolled into one big arc. Afterall with this remake, Quan Chi, Cyrax and plenty of other characters that weren't in MK1 became part of it. Might as well just turn MK10 into war of the gods.

See, I view the story mode as just a bunch of repeated nonsense from the first three games while the arcade endings show us where they plan on taking things in the next game. Additionally, a lot of the arcade endings are somewhat based on events from the story mode. Not only that, many of the endings directly correlate with one another while also sticking with the previously defined canon, with some alterations to adjust to the new timeline.

Its likely the game will incorporate some elements of the endings into the next game's story, but everything that happened in the story mode is canon and anything that contradicts that in the ladder endings is not.

If you don't like Story mode, maybe thats some wishful thinking. But theres a reason why they put Shinnok at the end of the game. Its going to go through at the very least some part of the MK4 story although I imagine it will be very different.

An aside, maybe they didn't fuck up when giving Quan Chi the amulet in this game, maybe hes time traveling.

Nah, I liked story mode, but I definitely think they put a lot more effort 'plot-wise' into the arcade endings. There are just certain things that I think, based on both the story mode and the endings, that are bound to happen. Liu Kang has already turned against Raiden and I can definitely see him becoming a god obsessed with power. You could already see it in the story mode. Sure, Shinnok and Quan Chi will play a big role as well, but that was also detailed in the arcade endings with a "what if" outcome. I believe the Chaos Realm (as seen in Noob's ending) and the Order Realm (JC's ending) will play a large role in the upcoming battle. It will like be the forces of order against the forces of chaos. You also have Jade's body being taken over by an invader from another realm.

Sure, some of the endings were pure "what ifs" (like Reptile's), but there were a lot that were based on the events of the story and showed us just where they planned on heading.

Basically, I see a war between Chaos and Order. not so much good vs. evil

I think the liu vs raiden fight was a homage to anakin vs obi wan in episode 3. Even has an identical outcome.
Wasn't Liu Kang's death caused by a chain reaction from Kang's flame and Raiden's lightning? That looked pretty clear to me as Liu Kang's body was engulfed with electricity and fire, hence the chain-reaction. I believe it was never Raiden's intention to use a "sure kill" attack on Liu Kang; that would have been pretty lame and shallow from a story point of view.

Capcom, Namco and, especially, SEGA should seriously take note of MK9's story mode. This is what you now need to do to make your game a sure hit in the western world. I can imagine VF having a kickass story game; providing AM2 get an amazing Hollywood story writer they can't go too far wrong.

So Noob is old Sub Zero and Cyber sub zero is his brother, which Sub Zero do we play?

Sub-Zero - Primary costume is younger Sub-Zero (who was in MK2-MK7 in the original timeline), Alternate costume is older Sub-Zero (was in the first tournament, killed by Scorpion)
Noob - Older Sub-Zero after being killed by Scorpion and revived by Quan Chi
Cyber Sub-Zero - younger Sub-Zero turned into a cyborg

I agree with the Liu Kang discussion. Both in story mode and his ending he's become a far, far more interesting character. I'd love to see him become more power hungry in MK2.

From Ed Boons wiki page - "Boon, along with John Tobias is a co-creator of the Mortal Kombat fighting game series"

Tobias Boon backwards is Noob Saibot.

I see him willingly siding with Quan Chi in the sequel, especially after Raiden's bungling during this game.

Just curious, since I collected everybody's Collectibles, where's Kratos' stuff in the Krypt? Or is he left with nothing, because I can't unlock the trophy for everyone's alternate costume -_-

Need to beat the ladder mode with him to get it.

Ahh, gotcha. To get the achievement where you unlock everyone's alts, does that include Mileena's at the 300th ladder? If so then sheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeit I have a long ways to go

No it doesn't count that one, though that costume has it's own achievement.

You don't need Mileena's ladder costume for the achievement, however it does give you a different one for getting it.

Edit: beaten

Is there a way to unlock babalities in the krypt like the second fatalities?
Nope.
The only things in the Krypt are:
-Alt-costumes for all characters but Kratos and "cyber"
-Artwork (stages, characters, handrawn, CG, damage tests)
-Kombat Kodes (inputs can be seen at the gallery)
-Fatalities #2
-Music (for all arenas; can be listened at the gallery)

No just look them up at TRMK and put them in during a match (not training). Just make sure not to block any attacks if you want to get them off (can still use X-Rays and hold block for input at the end).

The thing that bothered me most about the story mode was theat MK2/3 characters were introduced during the MK1 arc. It felt pretty forced and made no sense from the original source material. Lack of fatalities as well. I also wish I could have fought Motaro in a boss battle.

I still loved the story mode and would love to see this expanded upon. Capcom should be taking notes on how to add some really good and extensive content to a game. I wish SF had a well thought out story mode like this.

Capcom should probably stay away from storytelling, Resident Evil 5 is proof of that.

Is it safe to assume that Motaro was supposed to kill Johnny Cage? I like how Raiden sees a flash, probably of Johnny's death and flies over to just kill Motaro off.

He was killed by "extermination squads" in MK3, but I don't think the squads were ever revealed. It's very possible Motaro was the one who did it though, since I think he was in charge of them.

Since this is no longer an arcade game, it'd be nice if they did away with Kombat codes and had a checklist of switches for the matches which both players have to agree to. The fact that I have to have a list handy isn't very handy.

What I don't understand is at the tournaments they've had so far, they don't use the Tournament Mode kode (111-111).

It eliminates the first hit meter gain, toasty boost (maybe toasty altogether), foreground objects, and maybe some other things I didn't notice.

My friends that have been hating on the game this whole time actually wanted to start playing after learning that putting that in will make it more balanced, because of the whole 1 bar of meter for the first hit. It is a dumb mechanic imo for VS play, but pretty pivotal for some of the harder singleplayer stuff.

We like the first meter gain, which is why we haven't done that locally. It adds a significance to first strike in an already aggressive game. It's neat.

It's just contradictory to how the meter works the rest of the time though.

Noob = Ed Boon
Saibot = John Tobias

Last name spelled backwards of the dudes who invented MK.

Edit: beaten like a red headed step child

Okay, someone solve this mystery... Videos are on YouTube of fatalities being done on and by boss characters. I'm less interested in the latter, and more curious how the option to finish a boss happens. Where/how is that available?

So is this the "offical" time line now?

I'm sorry I just was obsessed with MK as a kid and thought Liu Kang was amazing - they cheapened his character so much I don't mind what happened in this story as long as he becomes alive again somehow him sonya and johnny shoulda been at the end with Liu Killing Raiden.
