The wife and I are watching Weeds right now. Very entertaining so far. The Pixar Story is also a very good documentary if you like their films.

In the pipeline:

The Signal
The Thing
Shrooms
Class of Nukem High
Variety of crappy chick flicks my wife added
More B Horror

This feature is amazing. Seriously amazing. If you are on the fence at all, trust me... this is totally worth 10 bucks a month. The movies look great.

It's times like this that I'm glad I ran that Cat 5 line under the floor connecting the computer room with the TV room. 4 bars is the only way to fly.

I'll throw in my recommendation for the British version of The Office. Also, I saw someone else listed Super High Me which I thought was fantastic as well. If you're into stand up, check out Joe Rogan. I forget the exact name of the special, but it should be the only one. I watched it over the weekend and was really impressed. Don't let the fact that he was the host of Fear Factor dissuade you.

I also tried watching Weeds. Does it get any better? I thought the first episode was okay, but the little kid kind of bugged me and I was expecting more based on all the praise it's received.

I found this movie to be horribly disappointing. I enjoyed it, but I think I set my expectations too high.

I love netflix streaming cause it allows me to disregard critics and just go after the movies that look interesting cause its instant and free. If a movie sucks then no big deal. Netflix just hit the digital vod bigtime with the Xbox deal.

Some movies ive seen and liked that i would have never seen otherwise;

The Air I Breathe
P2

Both were critically panned but i found them really entertaining. P2 was really tense and starred that guy from American Beauty who plays a psychopath.

Also the Masters of Horror series. Great stuff there. Incident on and off A Mountain Road and Cigarette Burns were great. Dance of the Dead was also wacky fun.

Battlestar Galatica: Complete Epic Series

On another note, does anyone think Netfllix is changing the VOD game with this service? NFLX shares are up 9% today on little to no news and I'm trying to figure out why....I'm looking for cheap stocks :D

What Netflix does isnt exactly new....but there is just something about this that seems amazing. I mean, I think it comes down to the fact that the library is huge with good video quality, playback only takes about 30 seconds to load a video, the streaming is nearly problem-free, and the cost is so low it might as well be free. The interface on the 360 is pretty slick too.

Totally kills off any other psn/xbox marketplace vod service imo.

Only thing holding this streaming back is the obvious lack of newly released movies, which are available in the more traditional 5$ a rent places. If they can secure them, im not sure ill need to buy many dvds ever again. Id only be interested in them for the bonus features. But because of this, I dont think that will happen anytime soon.

I guess you have to have a wireless signal on your 360 for this to work? When I try to use the service on the 360 it gives me a code to activate it. I have to unplug my 360 from the internet and hook up my computer and use the code. However, after a couple minutes it says my code has expired. I'm guessing it's because I disconnected the 360 from online....

Yeah same here. I called my folks and had my dad log in at their house and enter the code. Worked like a charm.

Enjoy it while it lasts though. You can bet your ass when the service gets to a certain point, they are going to start charging us for it.

Well, we are already getting charged, since you are paying for the basic netflix subscription along with Xbox Live Gold.

Of course, id gladly pay an additional fee of like 10$ if that meant they are adding brand new releases every week. Absolutely. The cost for me right now is basically 9$ a month. Dirt cheap.

Bukowski: Born into this

So much better for me.

I hated the first episode and wanted to stop watching. Glad I kept on.

A couple others without mention in this thread so far (or maybe I missed them):
King of California
Streets of Fire
Excalibur
Young Frankenstein
A Streetcar Named Desire

You should pick up a wired router to use your 360 and PC at the same time. They're pretty cheap these days.

Currently watching Winter Passing.

It's good so far. You guys should check it out.

Im going to ignore those replies to my post and keep this on topic. Anyway could somebody list all HD available movies to stream?

I know The Thing and Expelled are two but thats all I know. I'm going to watch The Thing today, and if its quality is anything like Expelled I cannot wait.

It looked better than DVD or as good - I was blown away at the streaming quality either way - and I was watching it on a SD TV. (S-video though)

There are an amazing amount of excellent documentaries and foreign flicks. I saw the Xmas party episode of the original UK Office series. Looking forward to the rest.

I also cracked up at seeing Leave it to Beaver. I cued up a season and it had 35 episodes. Wow! Those were the days. I don't think TV shows have 35 episodes per season these days.

Some great episode titles, like "Lumpy Gets a Girlfriend" or "Beaver and and the Bunny Suit". No way would I ever rent this, but it's so easy I'll probably end up watching an episode or two... :-)

Am I the only one who doesn't mind the lack of more recent movies on Instant Watch? I'm mostly using it for TV shows, some documentaries, and maybe the occaisional older movie. I'll save more recent movies for Blu-Ray rentals from Netflix and if for some reason it's unavailable and can't wait, I'll just have Netflix send me the DVD version. I've got a pretty decent setup, and I only view Netflix streaming to be under DVD quality and probably more in line with say satellite in visual quality. On top of that since they offer at best stereo sound, I would just rather play the Blu-Ray or DVD anyway since I have a full 5.1 audio setup and streaming through Netflix wouldn't take advantage of that. I simply view Netflix Instant Watch to compliment their normal shipping of discs not a replacement and hopefully never will in its current state. I know that's not viable for those who are doing this outside the US, but does anyone who lives in the US with a pretty decent setup not feel this way?

From the size of this thread sure doesn't look like it.

Besides, PS3 has spearheaded 10M+ worth of Blu-Ray sales.

Still belongs in OT.

Ummm, wrong about Blu-Ray spearheading..... 10 Million? You said Million? Tell me when it changes to Billion. Blu-Ray is a big flop right now. Here are the facts. Blu-Ray likely has less than 1% market share...

Back in April, Sony President Ryoji Chubachi projected that its Blu-ray Disc format would garner 50 percent of DVD market share by the end of 2008. At this rate, according to new data, we could get there in about nine years.

Check this URL for BluRay's marketshare. It's awful and with Digital Downloads like the Netflix service on Live and On-Demand on Comcast etc., Blu-Ray it's going to get worse for Blu-Ray and phyiscal media.

DVD annual US sales almost 1.7 billion discs p.a.

http://www.dvdinformatio.../industryData/index.cfm

DVD annual sales over 7 billion discs worldwide.

here's my recommendations from the streaming list

Neither Blood Simple nor Delicatessen is available to stream, and Crumb is not available on 360. Other than that, awesome list.

That was a stupid thing for him to say, IF he actually said that in the proper context.

BD is not a flop, it's adoption curve is ahead, yes AHEAD of the DVD adoption curve.
I hope you were calling DVD a flop in comparison to VHS sales at the start of its' life.

I expect 50% of home video marketshare in 5 years.
End of 08? LOL

Also, why did you watch the X-Mas special of The Office?
You have to go in order and watch the two seasons first! :arg:

Hmm... I'm noticing a disturbing lack of 'tough guy' movies in this thread.

My advice - forget all this artsy-fartsy crap and give your lughead friends what they really want to see. Bring em' over Friday night, pop some corn, grab some booze and let the good times roll!

hard2.jpg

'The Most Dangerous Game' as envisioned by Van Dammage.

rapid2.jpg

An action-packed chop-sockey tune-up for the late Brandon Lee, before his breakthrough role as the Crow.

fire2.jpg

The very last old-school bad-ass Seagal film, before he was banished to DTV obscurity.

sudden2.jpg

Championship Hockey, buckets of gore and Powers Booth... the ultimate Van Damme flick.

This is England.

Set in 1983, this drama follows a lonely 11-year-old boy named Shaun, grieving over the recent death of his father who was killed fighting in the Falkland War. When he falls in with a gang of young skinheads, Shaun's pain and anger make him susceptible to carrying out the group's hateful agenda. Directed by Shane Meadows, this semiautobiographical film exposes a dark side of modern Britain not often seen in the movies.

This movie is in my queue.

Looks hardcore.

anyone having slow streams tonight? last night on HD streams I consistently got 3 bars, tonight i'm mostly getting 1 bar (occasionally 2).

Does anyone know if anime like Code Geass ordered from Netlix (yes, ordered..not insta viewed because it's not available) is English or Japanese with English subs? :\

English, but they have the option for Japanese with English subs if you want.

:0!!!

How long do they take to get to your house?

And my friends have been urging me to watch Heroes..so I ordered Netflix today (with DSL btw, not half bad...quality is ok), and I watched episode one. And OMG what have I been missing out on? It's amazing! :P

I'm gonna be glued to my xbox for a while trying to play catch up :( No video games for me this week..

At this point DVD did not have the PS2 yet. That is when DVD exploded.

After they ship it, normally 1-2 days. Never been longer than that.

As for Heroes, yeah, the first season is awesome. You'll be glued to your TV.

Okay, not bad at all lol.

And what do you mean by 'first season is awesome'? What happened to Seasons 2 & 3?
And is there a reason that Episode 3 in Season 1 is missing? Can't seem to play it on my 360.

season 1 of heroes is amazing. we couldn't get enough. probably our favorite show that season.

recently, we took heroes off our dvr record list. it is a joke now. the downfall has been almost as bad as Lost's

They have to have the blue "watch instantly" button under the movie/show. Even then some titles aren't available for streaming on the Xbox.

Blade Runner: Theatrical & Director's Cut is now streamable.

damn... now it's getting even worse! i can only get 1 and 2 bars on an SD feed, wtf!?

anyone else having issues? my cable is still fast as ever (just checked 15megs a sec down) and i called my ISP and they have 0 issues, even checked my line, all is perfect.

this has to be Netflix. man GAF, i know you bitches are hogging up all the bandwidth now. i hate it when GAF attacks something, they wipe it clean like vultures! ;) ;) the power of GAF never ceases to amaze me. :lol

can someone else confirm the slow streaming speeds tonight?

Not surprising, since people are getting home from work and turning on the tube. I haven't bothered streaming anything during prime time, as it's always a pixelated mess.

I get a consistent 4 bars after 10PM PST, but anything before that is kind of iffy.
