The new iPad |OT|

This craziness happens every single time a new iOS device launches, people lose their minds because the color temperature doesn't look identical to their old device. Some examples:

Btw, for transferring media & files wirelessly, use FileBrowser or FilesConnect. iTunes is really not the best way to get content onto your iPad. It's actually best avoided entirely except for occasional backups or music library stuff.

how does this work, I thought all apps were sandboxed? Can you download and then hand off to a player or buzz player?

Do we have any timing for a full charge with the wall charger? I had mine charging for several hours (with my daughter playing) and its only 60% charged

the local CBS caught me being walked to the Apple store yesterday to buy the new iPad, I was the only person who showed up at opening with a preorder, so I got to go in first, before Steve Wozniak who also happened to be at that Apple store to get his iPad 3, lolololol

its baffling you cannot set up two iDevices to communicate with each other over bluetooth ie transfer photos from iphone to ipad, in some ways Apple is years behind the rest.

New Apple hates file systems.

They firmly believe part of the iOS product ecosystem success is the obliteration of anything that remotely looks or feels like a file system.

I use air video for 'special' content that I don't want showing up in plex. Yes that means porn but also stuff like web videos i'v downloaded (like tested.com stuff)
I hope the iPad is clean before you share it with your daughter. >_>

My new iPad's screen is warm as well, but the colors look way more natural than on my iPhone's, which looks blue-ish :)

In the end, both look great in their own way though.

It does, handles everything I throw at it.
There's a free version available for you to test specific files, only it is limited in the amount of files it displays at once.
The full version is completely worth it.

Thanks, loving the free version. Took me a whole to figure out i had to do the live conversion thing but after that everything works great.

I totally forgot about actual utitlty apps when getting my Ipad. I only had money put aside for games >_<. Now to buy comiczeal and decide what file manager to get

Exactly.

Apps on iOS register their supported filetypes with the operating system, and the "Open In..." function will access that list and offer a selection of compatible apps.

FileBrowser or FilesConnect are great and quick for transferring stuff from your NAS or computer, you'll probably rarely bother with iTunes sharing once you try it.

podcaster, filebrowser/filesconnect and dropbox feels like it could be the holy trinity of freedom from itunes then.

I'm still pretty overwhelmed trying to get everything set up and going on my iPad. I didn't restore from my iPhone. I just started a new account.

It will be worth it once I get everything set up. Need to check out the iOS recommendation thread.

Having weird issues in certain third party apps where the keyboard tapping sound (typewriter style 'click clack' sound) doesn't play.

Dropbox app - set a passcode, or enter one, while you're typing no sound effects...Yet when I type in the search/filter bar, it plays the sound just fine.

Google app - type anywhere in the search field, no keyboard tapping sound plays...

Anyone with these apps mind seeing if you can reproduce?

Basically, FileBrowser has a more intuitive, faster user interface, but FilesConnect is more powerful (it can access DropBox, Facebook, and other cloud storage in addition to doing remote access to your computer via AFP when you're not on your local wifi network).

I ended up getting both.

alright GAF:reasonable bleed or too much bleed?http://img221.imageshack.us/img221/2299/bleedk.jpg (bottom right)not noticeable during the day when watching letter-boxed content; pretty noticeable watching the same content at night.Fine otherwise. Exchange or keep?

More leak than mine has. Mine has none that I can notice. My ipad 2 had way more leakage than yours and I never noticed it when actually using it.

If it bothers you, know there ARE ipads out there with less. Dont settle for a shitty screen.

K. Thanks for the thoughts. I'll take it in and see about an exchange. If the exchange unit isn't demonstratably better, I'll just keep this one. My iPad 1 had worse and I lived with it...but if there are people out there that really don't have ANY light leak, I'd like to try once to join their ranks. lol.

Are we allowed to turn on exchange units or will we get them in a box

They offer to help you set them up so I would imagine you could check then. Cant say for certain though.

Ah yes, I misunderstood his question. They'll most certainly power it up and let you inspect it before leaving. But IIRC, they use florescent lighting in the store, so it may be difficult to see the light leak anyway. Unless you have some creative way of creating a dark area inside the store. Or unless they're willing to go in the back and turn off a light. That's the part the worries me. It's not really visible when lights are on, so unless I find a way to re-create the conditions to which the light leak becomes apparent there in the store, it's possible I could take home a unit with more light leak than the one I'm potentially returning has.

Take a black picture (cover ur finger over the lens) turn brightness to max then cower over the iPad if you notice any whites on edges

Which of those is better?

Edit nm read your post

Maroo Moko showed up.

It is just the iPad 2 version with a sticker on the box saying iPad 3. Fits just fine otherwise. Nice case. Felt good.

I'm probably not going to keep it though since my old Marware fits.

Has anyone gotten their HDMI adapter to work with the new iPad? I keep getting a "Accessory not supported" error. I am using the official adapter.

I'm still looking for a case. I hate how some of the cases don't show you how they look when the the folio flap is folded back to use them like the regular shape of the iPad.

You exchange it for another new sealed retail unit. I opened mine up right there at the store to check everything out and set it up. The staff were great to chat with.

My first one had a significantly yellow screen too. The new screen looks much better.

Won't be able to check light bleeding as much as the color of the screen in the store.

thanks looks pretty similar to the one i just posted. will look into it.

I'll strangle you if you buy that Case Mate Tuxedo case. It's a piece of shit. the back is too weak to properly support the iPad in landscape mode, so over time, the iPad starts to bend backwards and will simply start tipping over. The back needed to be made with a stronger material. As it stands, it's simply a DO NOT BUY.

I bought that Philips case someone recommended a while back. Just got it in and it seems pretty nice. Pretty much exactly what I was looking for in that it's something that will protect it when I'm not using it but that I can easily ditch when I am.

Good thing I have the case and now Draw Race 2 a week before I actually get the device.

I just ordered a Case Mate Tuxedo case. Does anybody have any experience with it? I figure it should be fine, I havent read anything bad about it.

I've emailed Instapaper support about the problems I am having with the latest version.

It just spins like its refreshing but it never actually does unless you kill the app and restart it. Weird for sure.
