Can they shutup with this "The patriots are doing this in an age of free agency that other teams didn't have to deal with" crap. Yet these fools can't give one example of other teams "raiding" the pats roster every year and nabbing free agents. As far as i can tell, the main core of this team (Brady, Seymore, Law, Bruschi, Vrable, Brown, ect...) have all been together for all 3 Super Bowl runs. Where exactly is the impact of free agency? If anything, they've been able to take advantage of free agency. 20 years ago Super Bowl winners couldn't upgrade and add a 1600 yard rusher to their roster like Corey Dillon. Its like one person says something and all these dumbass "analysts" and "experts" constantly regurgitate it over and over without stopping to think if its really true.

oh yes, they HAVE benefitted from free agency like no other team has. the pats do their homework like no other team has. they have so much preperation and know exactly what they're looking for....it's really quite disgusting.
you should see the ranking system they have for the draft/free agents. it's unbelieveable.
yeah, it seems like a bunch of hogwash the "experts" use, but the system they use is just unreal, and it's SO fucking EASY to see why they are successful.

one thing i dont understand is why the eagles defense isn't really mentioned that much. in the patriots playoff run, have they really ever faced a secondary that is as... unique as the eagles is? they blitz from everywhere and have (arguably) the best safety in the game. i think if they can get to brady early (not necessarily sacks... just get to him), he can be rattled.

i remember watching the pats vs. the bears 2 years ago (the year the pats were 9-7 and missed the playoffs). bears had a huge lead and they got it by knocking the shit out of brady early. of course once they got the big lead they backed off and he picked them apart. for all the "cool" talk people use when describing brady, i have seen him rattled and i think if any team in the nfl can do it, it's the eagles.

In other news, that Bill Simmons SuperBowl blog has mostly been pissing me off. The Media Day piece was pretty good, but since then it has been nothing but bitching about how awful Jacksonville is. First he whines about not being able to get anywhere quickly in the city because he can't catch a cab. Then he gets a car and still doesn't do anything. Now today's column he tries to justify doing nothing by saying that there is nothing going on. WTF? I was out drinking in Five Points last night....on one side of the street Big Boi from Outkast was doing a live show, and on the other side George Clinton was playing. Two girls I talked to at the bar were raving about the Snoop Dogg performance they had been to earlier in the day/week. There's a ton of parties all advertised in the paper, and a number of top-notch strip clubs on any side of town.

Is it me just being too sensitive because I live here or does he come off as rather spoiled? I'm not sure exactly what his readers are getting out of a column that just harps about our shitty town everyday.....if this were following any other city I probably would have quit reading by Wednesday or Thursday.

I doubt that our bumbling city leaders can pull off a spectacular SuperBowl, but it's really not the complete disaster that it sounds like.

Are all the sports columnists complaining? I've only been reading Simmons since it was linked in this thread. If they're only bitching about the weather, I guess it's because they think "Florida" means "seventy degrees year round". It's been in the 50's and 60's this week.....but still, if you cover football for a living then I don't see how brisk weather should really bother you. Simmons reminds me of me when I was a sulky teenager and got dragged along on some family vacation that I didn't want to go on. "This place sucks! There's nothing to do! I'm not even going to try and have a good time because I've already decided that I'm going to have a bad time." Maybe he just thinks "This town sucks" is a good angle for comedy or something.

We talked to some Eagles fans tonight, and they seemed to really be enjoying themselves. They were all impressed with the things downtown, which is hilarious because nobody that lives here would ever consider hanging out downtown. If the tourists have a good time then that's about the best we can hope for. Meeting the needs of the rich, spoiled folks who've already decided that this is a backwoods shithole was going to be impossible from the beginning.

Lots of stuff to do tonight.....big parties and festivals downtown. And there was a Lynyrd Skynyrd show! (that's not a joke :lol) I'm kind of debating on whether or not inviting acts like Skynyrd and .38 Special was a nice way to give folks a taste of Southern flavor, or just makes us look like hicks. There were some great moments involving Terry's weddings and Collinsworth's lack of super bowl rings, but the countdown itself was pretty lame. It had two dynasties in the best "moments" of the super bowl, and didn't have either of the Patriots wins(Which were two of the best Super Bowl games). Even worse, it had Steve Young's 6 touchdown passes at number 2. I just can't consider a blowout in the best super bowl moments myself. My top 2 were at 7 and 6 (Elway winning and Rams-Titans last play), the one I'd likely put at third (Last year's fourth quarter) wasn't even on the list. Poor voting. I'm disappointed in you, America.
