Can they shutup with this "The patriots are doing this in an age of free agency that other teams didn't have to deal with" crap. Yet these fools can't give one example of other teams "raiding" the pats roster every year and nabbing free agents. As far as i can tell, the main core of this team (Brady, Seymore, Law, Bruschi, Vrable, Brown, ect...) have all been together for all 3 Super Bowl runs. Where exactly is the impact of free agency? If anything, they've been able to take advantage of free agency. 20 years ago Super Bowl winners couldn't upgrade and add a 1600 yard rusher to their roster like Corey Dillon. Its like one person says something and all these dumbass "analysts" and "experts" constantly regurgitate it over and over without stopping to think if its really true.

oh yes, they HAVE benefitted from free agency like no other team has. the pats do their homework like no other team has. they have so much preperation and know exactly what they're looking for....it's really quite disgusting.
you should see the ranking system they have for the draft/free agents. it's unbelieveable.
yeah, it seems like a bunch of hogwash the "experts" use, but the system they use is just unreal, and it's SO fucking EASY to see why they are successful.
hate to keep bringing it up, but read the book I recommended in this thread. it sheds so much light on things you think are just BS phrases made up by the talking heads

wilbon and jaws picked the eagles but all these picks don't matter come sunday.

one thing i dont understand is why the eagles defense isn't really mentioned that much. in the patriots playoff run, have they really ever faced a secondary that is as... unique as the eagles is? they blitz from everywhere and have (arguably) the best safety in the game. i think if they can get to brady early (not necessarily sacks... just get to him), he can be rattled.

i remember watching the pats vs. the bears 2 years ago (the year the pats were 9-7 and missed the playoffs). bears had a huge lead and they got it by knocking the shit out of brady early. of course once they got the big lead they backed off and he picked them apart. for all the "cool" talk people use when describing brady, i have seen him rattled and i think if any team in the nfl can do it, it's the eagles.

here here!

Speaking of blitzing Brady

6. Tom Brady can handle the blitz -- Philadelphia's calling card on defense under talented coordinator Jim Johnson has been the blitz. Johnson loves to send bodies from all different positions, and rattle the quarterback into either making mistakes or losing yardage.

But blitzing New England QB Tom Brady in the playoffs historically has been a losing proposition. This postseason, Brady has completed 73.3 percent of his passes (11 of 15) when blitzed, with one touchdown, no interceptions and a 115.4 quarterback rating.

In his eight-game playoff career, no one has ever consistently gotten to Brady via the blitz. According to Stats Inc., Brady has five touchdown passes with no interceptions and a 107.3 rating when blitzed in the playoffs. If the Eagles do choose to blitz Brady, chances are the cool-as-a-cucumber quarterback will make them pay with big plays in the passing game.

Kobe isnt so bad after all. :)

This old guy is hilarious! :lol
a_bednarik1_vi.jpg

Chuck Bednarik holds a grudge only slightly larger than his legacy as the last of the 60-minute men. While he boasts about playing both center and linebacker for part of his 14-year career, Bednarik is equally as proud to have played on the last Eagles team to win a championship (1960). That's why Bednarik will be rooting against the Eagles in the Super Bowl against New England. He has no desire to ever see the franchise win another title.

"I can't wait until the Super Bowl is over," said Bednarik, who played for the Eagles from 1949 to 1962. "I hope the 1960 team remains the last one to win. I hope it stays that way."
Bednarik admits he's jealous and resentful about the salaries and spotlight today's players receive, calling them "overpaid and underplayed."
Bednarik recalled playing on all but two kickoffs against the Packers. He said he could have kept playing if he needed to, unlike today's players who "suck air after five plays."

In 1996, Deion Sanders played regularly on both offense and defense for the Cowboys, becoming the NFL's first two-way starter since Bednarik in 1962. Bednarik was not impressed.

"The positions I played, every play, I was making contact, not like that ... Deion Sanders," Bednarik said. "He couldn't tackle my wife. He's back there dancing out there instead of hitting."
No topic is off limits for Bednarik, not even the crazed Eagles fans who paint their faces, sing the fight song and camp out early for the perfect tailgate spot on home games.

"The fans were for us, but these people are nuts," he said. "It wasn't like that then. Nobody would get there at 6 a.m. and wait and do all that. ... No way. To me, they're nuts."
Holy crap. :lol

Best weather: Tuesday
Did you like the steady drizzle on Wednesday? What about the combination fog-and-drizzle on Thursday? Nah, I think I'll go with Tuesday -- dark, gloomy and Morrissey-esque. Super Bowl Week in a coma I know, I know ... it's serious ...

:lol

yeah, ok, but see the thing is...Law has actually DONE SOMETHING in his career. He almost single-handedly beat the Colts last year. he was a major reason the Pats won it last year.

What in the fuck has Freddie done? NOTHING. 22 catches during the year. WOO. One TD catch in the postseason, and a recovered fumble in the endzone, where all he did was be in the right place at the right time.
and correct me if i'm wrong(i'm seriously not completely sure), but wasn't it Freddie that fumbled at the goalline and turned a sure Philly TD into a touchback for the other team?

No one cares if you talk shit if you can back it up. See: TO. No one is saying anything about what he says. It's dumbasses like Mitchell who talk shit without having done shit.

please this whole week we have heard of how the pats dont give othe teams bulletin board material or anything of the sort to give the other team any motivation. exactly what freddy was accused of....this isnt about balancing credentials. if TO did it he would have been also added to the list of things eagles do as supposed yahoos or unprofessinals while the team from new england is all business. u think TO would get a free pass? hell some are questioning his reasoning to even come to play. bayless wrote a whole article about how TO is only doing this cause he knows no matter what he will be a winner...cause if he shows up and plays a few plays no matter if the eagles win or lose...he will be heralded a winner. u think this MEDIA would give TO free pass? please.....i dont care actually....i mean ty law can say it...im not saying he doesnt have a right to and he has a reason to be confident in his team. but u put mcnabb there and ask him name one thing the pats do better than the eagles and he will give a u response cosidered professional in the media's eyes, but thats not exciting. im not excusing mitchell but his comments were blown out of proportion while this wont even get much mention. poor pats never get respect.

Hey border, how about a report from jacksonville. Have the philly fans arrived yet?
I am seeing a lot more Philadelphia fans than I am seeing New England fans. So far they have not been as obnoxious as they were the last time Jags played the Eagles. =P

In other news, that Bill Simmons SuperBowl blog has mostly been pissing me off. The Media Day piece was pretty good, but since then it has been nothing but bitching about how awful Jacksonville is. First he whines about not being able to get anywhere quickly in the city because he can't catch a cab. Then he gets a car and still doesn't do anything. Now today's column he tries to justify doing nothing by saying that there is nothing going on. WTF? I was out drinking in Five Points last night....on one side of the street Big Boi from Outkast was doing a live show, and on the other side George Clinton was playing. Two girls I talked to at the bar were raving about the Snoop Dogg performance they had been to earlier in the day/week. There's a ton of parties all advertised in the paper, and a number of top-notch strip clubs on any side of town.

Is it me just being too sensitive because I live here or does he come off as rather spoiled? I'm not sure exactly what his readers are getting out of a column that just harps about our shitty town everyday.....if this were following any other city I probably would have quit reading by Wednesday or Thursday.

I doubt that our bumbling city leaders can pull off a spectacular SuperBowl, but it's really not the complete disaster that it sounds like.

According to the eagles message board philly fans have allready ruined 2 Hoge segements on espn with excessive heckling. He had to be escorted from the set the second time.

Most columnists have been coming off as spoiled drama queens. I guess they think it's their right to have every super bowl in a sunny tropical paradise. I can't wait til Minnesota gets it again.

Yeah, if they think Jacksonville (and its weather) sucks, I can't wait to see what they think of Detroit.
I'm gonna love to hear what these brats think's are valued opinions. They've probably already begun bitching when the closest they've been to Detroit is Oakland. I hope it's snowing like a son of a bitch next year. Detroit isn't hell and there's lots of shit to do if you look.

Although I will say the public transportation is terrible. They take the Motor City thing WAY too literally. Cuz if you don't have a car, Fukk you buddy.

You know, Jacksonville isn't that bad of a city. It's no worse than Albant IMO. I never lived in Jacksonville, but everytime I've been around the area, it struck me as being "small" in that sense. I don't know what there is to complain about. PEACE.

Are all the sports columnists complaining? I've only been reading Simmons since it was linked in this thread. If they're only bitching about the weather, I guess it's because they think "Florida" means "seventy degrees year round". It's been in the 50's and 60's this week.....but still, if you cover football for a living then I don't see how brisk weather should really bother you. Simmons reminds me of me when I was a sulky teenager and got dragged along on some family vacation that I didn't want to go on. "This place sucks! There's nothing to do! I'm not even going to try and have a good time because I've already decided that I'm going to have a bad time." Maybe he just thinks "This town sucks" is a good angle for comedy or something.

We talked to some Eagles fans tonight, and they seemed to really be enjoying themselves. They were all impressed with the things downtown, which is hilarious because nobody that lives here would ever consider hanging out downtown. If the tourists have a good time then that's about the best we can hope for. Meeting the needs of the rich, spoiled folks who've already decided that this is a backwoods shithole was going to be impossible from the beginning.

Lots of stuff to do tonight.....big parties and festivals downtown. And there was a Lynyrd Skynyrd show! (that's not a joke :lol) I'm kind of debating on whether or not inviting acts like Skynyrd and .38 Special was a nice way to give folks a taste of Southern flavor, or just makes us look like hicks. Still there's been plenty of more mainstream stuff goin' on...

Its going to be a long day of listening to idiot analyists prove how little they know.

Let me guess... the ones picking against the Eagles are showing us how little they know right? Ah well regardless...today's the big day.. got our football food ordered, the 60inch TV and surround sound system are ready to go.... let's get it on! ;)

I honestly dont care who they pick as long as they dont make retarded statements like most of them have a habit of doing. Like for instance the guy on playbook said we havent proven we can stop the run and Dillion will have a huge game. I guess he forgot the Falcons led the nfl in rushing and we held them under 100. Hank Goldberg picked us to lose 27-10. He made some valid points, like we suck against the 3-4. That doesnt bother me so much.

Anybody watch the countdown of best moments in super bowl history on Fox?

There were some great moments involving Terry's weddings and Collinsworth's lack of super bowl rings, but the countdown itself was pretty lame. It had two dynasties in the best "moments" of the super bowl, and didn't have either of the Patriots wins(Which were two of the best Super Bowl games). Even worse, it had Steve Young's 6 touchdown passes at number 2. I just can't consider a blowout in the best super bowl moments myself. My top 2 were at 7 and 6 (Elway winning and Rams-Titans last play), the one I'd likely put at third (Last year's fourth quarter) wasn't even on the list. Poor voting. I'm disappointed in you, America.

Whatever happens tonight, I hope that the curse of the Super Bowl loser continues. I wouldn't mind either of those teams missing out on the playoffs next year :P

Nothing short of a disaster (read: McNabb and TO both being out, Belichek dying on the field) will put either of these teams at 7-9 next year.

Well that kinda happened to Carolina this year :(

Steve Smith, Kris Jenkins, Stephen Davis, DeShaun Foster, all out for the year and Jake breaking his thumb. And they STILL almost made the playoffs. *sigh*

Weis and crennel are leaving. We'll see who the real brains of the operation are, or were, next year.

pats for 7-9 next year lol

Because when anybody wants advice on how to run a college or pro football team, they go straight to the people currently in charge of Notre Dame and the Cleveland Browns.

Sure, they've been passed over countless times already, but I'm positive that these two teams know exactly what a great coach is.
