This is the one I was talking about. Comes with the boot disc. Unless you are talking about some issues with the boot disc being the wrong region or something.

I've heard good things about it, has anyone played Cel Damage?[/QUOTE

I loved Cell Damage as a kid. I have kind of avoided it as an adult though because I feel it will ruin all my nostalgic fun.
Ok thanks, and the boot discs are region locked.

Do you have a Freeloader? If you can get a good price on a US GBP and disc it'll probably still be cheaper than buying an Aussie one, even if you have to buy a Freeloader too.

No, I was thinking of getting one a while back to play Baten Kaitos: Origins and Custom Robo, as well as because every game is way more expensive here. It looks like I can get them for 10 GBP which is about $18, with shipping it shouldn't be more than $25 or $30 so I will consider it.

^not a good butt then
Also looking up those Wii port REs tomorrow,I keep telling people jump on Wii gems while gamestop is selling them for beans, 5 years from now they'll be GC level nightmares

Freeloader has been amazing to me. Work exactly as intended and it has let me play so many games I've wanted to but haven't been able to because of my cubes from other countries.

As a PAL gamer I'd highly recommend a Freeloader. I have a modchip now for my main Gamecube but the Freeloader served me very well.

I plan to pick up the Wii versions before that happens!!!

I flat out don't get how anyone sells stuff like that on Amazon. Why on earth would I buy a used ANYTHING at a higher price than eBay without seeing a picture of it at the very least?

I have a feeling many stores utilize pricing bots that fluctuate the price based on other sellers. If the cheapest option is $210 maybe they'll go for $209.99 to show up as the first result. If bots start competing one way or another it can lead to hilarious results like that quintilion dollar copy of Star Fox Adventures or whatever.

I've thought about this a lot, because the gaming market does generally command a higher price on Amazon. After asking my friends who are casual consumers, they generally seem to have a higher trust in an Amazon purchase versus an eBay purchase, even though an Amazon purchase through the marketplace is virtually the same concept as an eBay one.

False. The Amazon marketplace is like eBay, except that literally 80% of the time, you will get an item with some sort of significant problem. It's a mystery box. Very different concept.

Amazon isn't that bad, I think I've only had one "bad" experience which matches my number of bad experiences on Ebay. Both were instances of receiving the wrong game (for the Ebay one, I got the right case, but it had the wrong game in it). Was able to work it out in both situations, so neither were too bad in the end.

Prices do tend to be a little higher on Amazon, but not always.

Yes, that is what I am saying. My friends that are casual consumers, and not in the know, seem to blindly trust Amazon more. You and I know that.

I say that anyone who wants Gamecube Component cables just has to do exactly what I did.

Troll Yahoo Auctions Japan for a few weeks and wait until someone posts a D-Terminal Cable that they've damaged for a low price.

Like what? I've been looking out for Wii games as well since EB Games has been clearing them out and recently got Project Zero 2 for $20, what else is there cause my Wii library is pretty lacking.

^ This, and If you don't want to wait amazon has D terminal cables for around $100.

On the topic of third party GC games, what do you guys think of Destroy all humans? I remember playing it at friends house long ago. It was fun at the time but how does it hold up?

Curious to know the answer to this. Gamecube games hold up surprisingly well all around in my opinion. I haven't found one game that I played as a kid that I still don't enjoy. Shit Lost Kingdoms 1 is still amazing to me.

So uh.... how's Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles? I never bothered with the game back in the day, but I'm kinda curious how the game actually is.

Oh, and I'll only be playing single player, because I have no friends.

I really, really, really wanted to like it since it was the first Final Fantasy game on a Nintendo console after missing out completely in the PS1 era and it just wasn't fun.

Multiplayer was slightly better but it was still slow and hard. Single player was just boring.

IIRC each stage you'll be playing for an item that'll give you something like +1 to a stat. The itemisation was boring, meaning the rewards were too.

Four Swords Adventures was a similar concept but it absolutely nailed the GBA/GCN link.

lol, actually, I was wondering about 4 swords, too. Is that any good without friends?

I did a weekend play through with friends once, I found it a pretty amazing experience.

I'm slowly collecting some more link cables so I can do another play through, it's just that good.

Oh, and I swear this is the last game question I'll ask tonight, but Super Monkey Ball: GC or Xbox? I know the Xbox version supposedly contains the courses from the GC games, plus more, but is there some reason to stick with the GC versions? I'm wondering if, for example, the mechanics of SMB1 aren't recreated faithfully in the Xbox version.

I got a lot more play time out of the original GCN game than the Xbox but that would be due to the amount of time between releases.

There was a good Wii recommendation thread today
http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=864638

personally I like
Zangeki no Reginleiv
Sin and Punishment 2
Tatsunoko vs Capcom
Klonoa

Thanks, Sin and Punishment has been on my list for a while and I haven't heard of Zangeki no Reginleiv. On the topic of cables, how would an RF cable look on an HDTV? See, I had an adaptor for one for the N64 and it works with the 'Cube as well but I've never thought to try it on an HDTV, and really, all I want is for it to not be blurry like AV, I know it won't be on the level of component. Here's a picture of the adaptor. I'm going to try tomorrow.

RF is going to look worse, it is basically the bottom and of the barrel in terms of image quality.

If you want better you need to go with S-Video if component isn't an option. Avoid the combo cables though, you want one that is S-Video only without composite.

Changing the TV settings could also help.

Finally got my Wii from storage (and my copy of Wind Waker <3) and had a go with component cables. The image is clearer, but there's so much jaggies, idk which I like more.

I'm just gonna keep playing through the Cube with composite.

So far I've finished:

Zelda: The Wind Waker (years ago through the Wii)
Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door

and I own and have started Melee, Four Swords Adventures and Viewtiful Joe.

and I own and haven't started Luigi's Mansion and Viewtiful Joe: Red Hot Rumble.

And I just bought Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn and Tales of Symphonia on ebay! :D
$130 for both which is quite the bargain for Australian copies.

TV doesn't have an S-Video port, so I'm stuck with AV.

I've never played the xbox version but I remember reading at the time that the ps2 and xbox versions had some frame rate issues compared to the gamecube game.
It's also worth noting that the octogonal gate on the gamecube analog stick helps a lot in super monkey ball, I don't think the game would feel as good without it. For these reasons I'd stick with the cube version.

I read up on it a bit, and heard the same things. I also heard that they screwed up the dead zone for the stick in the Xbox version.

Which is great news, because I already have the GC version of SMB. I've had it sealed for about 2 years now. Once I get up and running in my new apartment, I'll give it a shot. Game's probably rad.

I see it's been addressed, but I'll chime in as I have first hand experience, and also because the situation was so dumb and made me mad. There are some additional courses in Deluxe, which was only released for the Xbox and PS2 - that's the part that made me mad, because the Gamecube games sold very well.

The two versions couldn't be more different. The Xbox version looks perfect, runs perfectly, and at first glance, appears to play well...until you get to courses that require precision movement. The analog stick control is horribly over-sensitive. I tried several different controllers, as well as PS2-to-Xbox adapters to try and find something to make the game playable, but to no avail.

The PS2 version looks terrible. It's missing effects, particularly reflections, and the clean, shiny look of Monkey Ball instead looks chalky, dull, and dingy. Despite the severe graphical downgrade, it runs at a low and erratic framerate, making it impossible to play well. It also suffers from poor load times, if I recall.

Definitely stick with the 2 Gamecube originals.

Also - it's a great, great game, one of my all-time favorites.

Cool, thanks guy. Sounds like Sega really messed Deluxe up.

Any Australian collectors have any tips? I know collectors don't like to tell their secrets, but help a brutha out. GC games are so hard to come buy, charity (thrift) stores never have any, Cash Converters only has shovelware and they got expensive, other pawn shops have nothing (except one which specialises in Sydney), Gumtree is annoying because everything is pick up, Game Traders is on and off but they can be a wrought (e.g. Starfox Adventures and Pokemon Colosseum at $60), CEX used to be good but it seems people caught on cause they have nothing these days (I remember they had Pikmin 2 at $35 and Twilight Princess for $45, which is real cheap) and Ebay, which is only good for getting some of the niche titles through auctions. Oh, and people, I remember someone got me Animal Crossing and Donkey Konga a few years ago for cheap from someone else. Am I missing anything? And by the way, it's not just the price, they are so hard to find here.

wait...

oh my god, dont use that. please, or you'll end up like this:

Even back in 1994, RF was horrendous. Thank fuck we have consistently good RGB support here in the UK. Hooked up my SNES via RGB pretty much immediately back in the day. fuck RF. that adapter you posted will give you the shittiest image you could ever hope to acheive, guaranteed.

Throw it in the bin.
