The Nintendo GameCube Appreciation and Collecting Thread.

That's really interesting. I'm kind of curious, did Nintendo do the component cable as an afterthought (thus necessitating building the chip into the cable) or was this premeditated, and they figured they could pass the cost of integrating the necessary hardware into an optional cable they'd sell, as opposed to spending the money to outfit every system with it? The latter distinctly seems like Nintendo since they like to sell their systems above cost.

I'd go with cost cutting on the system end, particularly since they eventually removed the port all together. To be fair, the uptake on the tech at the time was pretty abysmal so they had some good reasoning in there somewhere.

Absolute. I think they've shown some prudence on cost I always appreciated. I know it was never popular that they chose not to go HD with the Wii, but I completely understand why they decided that.

Is there a gamecube binder where I can hold up to 40+ gamecube games?

I'm looking for a mini DVD binder that can hold up to 40+ mini dvds or gamecube discs. I'm talking about something in similar fashion to those large DVD binders.

Does any such thing exist and if so where can I order them? My research (aka googling) provided no such results. Anyone?

I'm thinking that Nintendo thought digital connections would be a bigger deal; DVI was in use by that point and they probably decided that they should cover themselves if it became a standard on TVs.

I really do also wonder why they decided to do what they did for component though. Seem so stupidly impractical. Though I suppose Apple does the same thing now with their cables.

Not many people here are okay with the idea of tossing out cases and manuals, and binders aren't very protective so I don't think you'll find much help.

Does anybody know of any good protective sleeves/cases for Japanese Gamecube-games? Neither videogameboxprotectors.com or sentinel64 have anything.

Measures for JP GC-boxes are 10.5cm (4.13 inches) width, 14.8cm (5.82 inches) height and 1.5cm (0.6 inches) depth.

This was a critical hit on my wallet--still need to find the outer box. Found the Eon Ticket tucked neatly away in the manual. First one I've ever actually seen in the wild.

Damn Doc, I know that had to be Super Effective...

Dont do it, they'll just get scratched up over time.

Just get a shoebox, bin, or shelf for your cases.

Are the Gamecube versions of Resident Evil 2 & 3 worth getting? I've never played either but have ReMake, Zero, and 4 for the Gamecube already.

I would say yes. RE 2 lacks the art gallery from the DC version but makes up for it with clear sound or at least closer to the PS1 version and the character models are nice and smooth. RE 2 also runs from one disc so no need to swap. RE 3 is probably the best port of RE 3. The character models dont have that odd flicker you see in 3D PS1 models. Even the DC version of RE 3 has that weird 3D model flickering.

I'd say get them on Dreamcast instead. They're roughly the same price and you can see your health on the VMU in your controller, which is actually very useful.

I'm thinking about selling my copy of PSO I & II Plus. Anyone want it? I'll sell it for a good deal to a forum member. It's like new, and basically unplayed.

I'll be specific: $65 plus shipping (which should be cheap) to someone from around here.

I'm still looking to sell my black cube with Viper-GC installed, and two WaveBirds + 2 original GC black controllers. All in minty fresh condition. If anyone is interested, drop me a line! I, too, am down to make a unbelievable deal for a forum member.

Guys I have a memory card containing hundreds of hours worth of smash bros Melee, from where me and my friends had time to play 16 hours a day, we've got every trophy and all the good stuff.

So with that being said, whats the best way to backup my memory card?

I'm pretty sure there's a GC memory Card backup tool on the Wii Homebrew Browser, though I'm not sure if there are better options now.

So, this is probably weird as shit, but I really, really like the way the analog stick on the GC controller sounds. It's just so satisfying. I still have to play Fire Emblem GC at some point, and one of the primary reasons I want to is because I know that maneuvering those grids is going to sound amazing.

I think I have mental problems.

dat octogate makes u wanna slam it in

Anyone know a good tutorial on how to set up swiss on GC. I've tried but I keep getting this "exception (DSI) occured!" screen. I'm not sure if I'm doing something wrong.

Does anyone have an interest in my Interactive Multigame Demo Discs? (The in-store, not for sale discs) I forget which ones I have off the top of my head but I have 3 or 4 different versions. I believe 2 of them are boxed, and 2 are not?

There were a few binders, but they were all variations on this. Small about 3x3 inches. They hold about 12 games.

For something that holds a bunch of games this would be your best bet. Even though its kinda weird looking.

Or making a binder with these, but i'm not sure how well they would fit. Searching for diskette cases or Mini CD might lead you down a path for a solution that works for you.

I never quite noticed how much sound they made until I sat out a round of Smash and watched 4 friends play.
When I'm not concentrating on the game those sticks be loud as heck!

I'm tempted as hell to buy a Spice Orange 'Cube. Might do it in the next couple of days.

Does anyone know if all the orange GCs are the DOL-001 models w/ the component out? Obviously, the thing's worthless otherwise.

Anyone got a list of third party gems on the gamecube (and not the obvious ones like Beyond Good and Evil and Time Splitters)? I bought Freedom Fighters alongside Starfox Assault recently and I bought Killer7 and Viewtiful Joe 2 before that (Killer7 is so goooooood, and I got it at a decent price as well). And for Australians, where the hell can I find a Gameboy Player for under $100? And kind of off topic, but, damn, the exclusives look so much better than the multiplats, but thats the ps2's fault, isn't it?

Realistically, yeah, it's the PS2's fault. But Capcom's multiplatform games, like Viewtiful Joe and Killer 7, still looked fantastic on the Cube.

Random thought: I kinda wish the GC versions of RE and RE0 were better than the Wii versions, cuz those games just feel right on the GC. Oh well.

I think (like most of my Wii games) i picked it up for $10. Well worth it! If I was going to replay it'd definitely be the Wii version.

Just checked Australian Ebay, seems to be slim pickings. I'm finding them as cheap as 30$ plus 5$ shipping the US.

Edit: I just found some on US ebay willing to ship to Australia. 58$ including shipping

Gotcha Force is a great 3rd party game

Thanks, that seems like it'd be the cheapest I can get but then there is the issue of the boot disc.

This is the one I was talking about. Comes with the boot disc. Unless you are talking about some issues with the boot disc being the wrong region or something.

I've heard good things about it, has anyone played Cel Damage?

I loved Cell Damage as a kid. I have kind of avoided it as an adult though because I feel it will ruin all my nostalgic fun.
