The Nintendo GameCube Appreciation and Collecting Thread.

Yeah, if it really have both, indeed that's awesome. :P

It's been a long time since you got yours?

I'll post about it tomorrow.

I got mine earlier this year. As soon as I got it someone in this thread told me that they had AR on their disk. Checked mine out and I had no AR so I was just like...

I'm really wishing I had it now... I'm trying to get the large bomb bag in zelda and I'm failling so hard. Lol

The biggest kick in the nads though is that for some gosh dar-diddly-arn reason Action replay itself is more expensive on the website than SDML.

I have a spare copy of Metroid Prime going if anyone wants it? Don't mind giving it away if someone fronts the cost of postage. (UK)

Errr...got the SD card loaded and everything.

Now the test:

Fucking nothing, the Gamecube doesn't even recognize the Action Replay disc.

Wow...unless I'm doing something wrong, damn, paypal dispute I guess. :/

EDIT: LOL, my friend blew on the disc, that wasn't even THAT dusty, and it fucking worked. Just like the good NES days!

EDIT2: No matter where the memory card is, or the SD Media Launcher for that matter, it just takes me straight to the Action Replay menu, a long list of games, nothing else, can't do jack.

That it, I'm starting a dispute. I just want the damn SD Media disc, I don't give two cents about Action Replay anyway since I never use cheats.

That does suck, but Action Replay CAN be used to play import games as well.

Damn, sorry to hear they fucked up your order. I hope all gets fixed for you.

Oh man you are lucky! I've been trying to find a CRT in my area that does 480P. I've yet to come across one. Gonna keep my eyes peeled for that specific model.

I remember reading the Wii virtual console support 240P. Is there any truth to this? I read it has something to with hold certain buttons down when booting certain titles. I have a 27" Toshiba that seem to support it but not sure the proper way to test that it is on.

You can try an lcd 22" tv/monitor like the samsung P2270HD that uses my sister for pc and tv.

I try the Nintendo Wii via component cable and via HDMI (Wii2hdmi neoya) and the image is really good on this Tv monitor.

Ok that's just weird.

I got a friend who passed me a 2Gb SD card and the Action Replay actually boots it and I can start Swiss.

As I read here
(but that's old), people can play with SD cards up to 32Gb in the long end. Aren't you playing with something like 16Gb card too, Televator?

I bought a 32Gb kingston Class 10...I'm totally clueless to what I should do now. :/

I bought this because I wanted to avoid switching discs, but if the limit is 2Gb, it's worthless because I'll always have to go to my PC to switch files.

EDIT: The 32Gb card can be detected if I switch the SD cards after Swiss has been booted. I have the list of the games I copied there but I can't manage to make them work, shit freezes at ''100% Complete - Executing Game!''

Even if the media launcher has an initial size limit (which is possible since higher capacity SDHC cards are more recent than the media launcher) I'm pretty sure swiss does not. I never tried booting swiss from my 32 GB card, but once swiss asks you to select your media you can pull out the card you launched swiss from and swap it with an SDHC card. Like I said before, I have a 32 GB card that I boot games from.

At any rate it seems you got it working so that's good and I'm sure swaping your card will work as it does for me.

I think it's probably because it can't read the SDHC format. I think there's a way to format the SD card though?

I got it working...at some point. I need to switch after loading Swiss with another SD card for it to be detected and see what's on it.

Can't load a single game, though...so I'm still at square one.

I just tried re-formatting it to FAT32, then NTFS and then ex-FAT.

Nothing. :/

Swiss does work with SDHC. I guess its just kinda hit or miss with brands and models. Here's a list of known cards on the wiki: link

Personally, I use a card that's not listed. Its a Transcend 32GB class 10 SDHC.

Again in all likelihood, its the media launcher software that can't read SDHC cards. If swiss ain't reading your card after you've launched the DOL file its probably not compatible for some strange reason, but you could try wiggling the card and putting preassure while you reinsert the card into the reader because it can make weak contact with some cards.

Well, I tried a couple of times, but it was pretty much solidly in each time I tried. Plus I tried two different cards with both miniSD cards in them and only the 2Gb one is detected by the AR software.

I'm pretty sure it doesn't work mainly because I'm switching cards in the process, because for a moment, even after I switched cards, it still shows me the content of the older card, then I go see the disc -brief loading- then I come back and the new content is there. I'm sure it freezes because Swiss is all like ''What the fuck happened the to card that was just there?'', but that's all hypothesis.

Your SD Media Launcher disc detects your 32Gb card, right, Televator? Then I'm sure I'll only need the right disc to do the trick. I guess it's the AR software that doesn't want to detect mine.

I'll keep the dispute on, at least they'll probably send me the good disc so I'll be able to try it out.

Okay I tried getting to the bottom of your issue and I found the same problem. It looks like the latest swiss has problems managing files. I tried simply swaping SD cards and loading a backup and it just returned an error about 0x1c or something. I also saw files from the previous card mixed in.

Then I tried swapping not just the SD card, but the reader itseld from port B to port A. In the screen with SD card icon you hit X and you can tell swiss which port to read so I tell it to read port A and it worked! There were just the isos I had on that card.

However, Swiss is now hanging at a 100% complete screen for me. It doesn't matter if I try the compressed file or not. I don't understand. This was all working for me on the earlier version. Anyway, Seik, you can try the port swapping method like I did but you might get stuck at the load screen as well... or maybe not.

This was a critical hit on my wallet--still need to find the outer box. Found the Eon Ticket tucked neatly away in the manual. First one I've ever actually seen in the wild.

Managed to wrangle a really good condition wave bird off my mate over the weekend and started on Paper Mario:TTYD. Only remember playing this for a few hours when I originally owned it, so looking forward to this play through.

That ebay listing is awesome. I'd love to add something like that to my collection if I had the money/space but that is out of my league. Love development gamecube stuff.

Ye gads. I remember a hardcore PokeHead friend having one of these 10 years ago. It was basically just a glorified organizational program right?

Yes.

The capacity was unprecedented at the time (1500), so if you owned more than 2 games it was well worth it.

Sadly it took 10 years after it was released before it found a worthy successor in Pokebank.

Yep! The other big thing you can do is play RuSa on your TV through the GBA/GCN connection but you're better off just using the GBA player nowadays.

I hate myself for not getting it when it was $20. I was only 16 or so at the time and my family was paranoid about ordering stuff online, haha.

I posted it in the Buy & Trade Thread, but I figured I'll post it here too. Sorry if it's not the place - just let me know and I'll delete it.

Not sure how often this thread gets checked, but I'm looking to sell my Gamecube collection.

http://minus.com/mlr0HzCN6EPaD

Some rares include Paper Mario TTYD, Pokémon Colosseum and Pokémon XD. And an unboxed ( :( ) copy of Mario Golf.

Feel free to PM me. I'm going to put them on eBay, but I'd rather sell to a fellow Gaffer (and on GameFAQs, where it's also listed). I'm in the UK (Manchester).

wait

pokemon box is how much?!?

FUCK - I used to have it in the blockbuster store I ran for 99p. I never bought it as I assumed it was shit

If we were going to go back in time for money making schemes, I still think buying all the copies of that Pokemon game would be low on the list.

Well there is some difference in value depending on region. These are rough estimates based on previous ebay sales.
US version is worth $100+ with the case, if it has the cardboard box and is complete its worth $250+, it was only sold by nintendo directly.
JP version is like $40 it had a wider print run
UK version is worth around £20 (there was also a UK version bundled with Pokemon Colosseum.

I often say that if I had a time machine, I'd use it to buy a bulk of sealed CIB Earthbound copies... and to stop my 9-year-old self from throwing away cardboard game boxes. Pokémon Box would be somewhere in my top 10 time travelling priorities. Fortunately, I can play PAL games on my Wii so I'll end up buying a UK copy probably.

I would also buy more GC games like Kirby Air Ride. It's only the start of price increases for the GC and I regret not buying more games as a teen.

If I had a time machine I'd try to stop historical atrocities from happening but trying to retire off old video games sounds interesting too I guess.

Historical atrocities are tricky. For example, my grandmother was going to marry a man who ended up not making it through World War 2. Instead, she ended up with my grandfather, who survived the war.

So what I'm saying is, if you prevent World War 2, I might cease to exist. But there could be Zeppelin air travel, so I guess you should weigh the options here.

I know I'm going to lose out to Zeppelins.

Reaaally? I've always avoided the SD method because of the 2GB limit. But this is really cool to hear. That option is really attractive.

How does playability/compatability fare against other methods? (Streaming audio, etc) If this is the ultimate way to do it, I'll put up with the 32GB limit because that is much better than being stuck with a 2GB card.

Yeah time travel is tricky in general. Maybe we're fortunate it's only fiction after all.

I picked up a JP Pokemon Box complete with the included memory card for 500 yen at Book-Off. I'm guessing ebay price is higher but still probably way less than the US version if anyone really wants Pokemon Box (other than just for the price bubble).

I was just a Game Over Videogames in Arlington, TX and they had a component cable for $150... Christ... Glad I bought and kept mine back in 2001 from NOA. It's a shame the store has such a shit GameCube selection.

You've really got to wonder what the ceiling is on that thing.

It likely won't be possible until the whole multi-dol thing is figured out. The 240p forcing works great but the Gameboy Player must boot into something else after start up.

You've really got to wonder what the ceiling is on that thing.

I'm surprised no one has made or tried to copy that special chip inside those cables. Not even a cheap Chinese knock off has surfaced. Glad I still have my originals I ordered off of Nintendo's online shop.

You would think some Chinese company would be all over being able to do a knockoff for 40 bucks or so. Maybe the chip inside is serious business.

The chip was a custom made DAC by Nintendo. The chip was apparently produced for awhile after but no longer. People reckon even if you could get the chip you'd have to reverse engineer how it was programmed somehow. I read all about it on a rainy day once.
