I also heard the encounter rate was decreased, which I guess is a good thing for a game of this type - as long as its still decently balanced of course.

The encounter rate was a little stupid in the original game. It became QUITE frustrating at times. My understanding is that they re-balanced the XP for encounters to even things out. Fewer fights, more XP.

Haha, Yeah Skies is a game I must purchase, finished and loved it on the DC but thought i've probably got a hundred hours or so of gaming in those 4 RPGs already that Skies can wait a little!

Speaking of Skies, I have the DC version and have finished up to the first dungeon. It's a nice game but I can already see that the random battles will soon become really annoying . I have yet to return to it. Is it worth getting the GC version? or should I just continue with the DC version?

It depends on your patience with random battles. The Dreamcast version had a high enough encounter rate that I was starting to find it frustrating after a couple hours into the game.I heard the rate was lower and ended up starting over with the GameCube version.

If it's grating on you sounds like flipping it for the GCN one is the right call. Otherwise it will sour the experience.

I like what this game has to offer but the encounter rate is driving me away. I guess I will sell my DC version for the cube version.

Even with the audio downgrades the GCN version is dramatically better than the Dreamcast. I would definitely recommend Legends over the original any day.

Well, that's a great start!

This, I have both versions and the GC version is a no brainer.

There's really too much random battles.

All ready to start on Paper Mario and it turns out my gamecube controller is broke, analogue stick doesnt work properly. Time to invest in a wavebird!

Great set to start with! Baiten Kaitos and Symphonia I have found super difficult to find at a reasonable price, so they're two notable titles missing from my collection.

Good luck finding a nicely priced and good condition WaveBird, I bought one with a reasonable price, and the stick was stuffed. Managed to destroy the WaveBird and another GC controller trying to transplant the analog sticks. Oops.

I got Baten Kaitos for £17 and Symphonia for £20 which were cheaper than I anticipated. With the wavebird I know my mate has a few from back in the day that he never uses so i'll see if I can pinch one of his over the weekend.

I'm not sure if I'd bother playing it single player, it'd get rather repetitive. Co-op is 100% where it's at.
Sadly that's my experience too.
At the time it was such a disappointment, I really wanted to like it because the graphics and music is awesome but the multiplayer nature and the fact it was designed with GBA in mind ruined the single player for me.
I just wanted a good single player action RPG...

Check out Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance if you haven't already. It sounds exactly like what you were looking for.

I've been playing through Ocarina of Time on the Zelda Collector's Disk, and yesterday my copy of Metroid Prime came in.

It's hard to believe, but this will be my first Metroid game. (I played a little bit of the original gameboy one as a kid, didn't care for it.)

Just don't expect Halo. If you like atmospheric single player exploration, you'll be in heaven with Prime.

Also, you borked your 2D experience. Play Super Metroid, Zero Mission, and Fusion for the pinnacle of 2D Metroids. Metroid II is probably the weakest one.

Is Crystal Chronicles a good single player game? I've only ever seen multiplayer get discussed so I never even considered it.

Not even a little bit. I don't even really think it's fun as a multi-player game. I remember getting three friends over and having all the necessary equipment, being super excited about it, then it being a total letdown. There's a very good reason it isn't very expensive on eBay.

Yeah Halo: CE is my favorite game of all time, and it's because of the atmosphere and exploration. Knowing this is in a metroidvania, MAP format has me excited. I won't know how it feels until I have the controller in hand but I understand it's nothing really like an FPS but a first person adventure. I'm looking forward to it. Just gotta beat the Spirit Temple and then Ganon's Castle before I load it up!

They all look to be in good shape. The thumb sticks are solid and not loose. They have some scuffs and such, but they can be cleaned... $90 for the whole lot... I will be happy to sell at cost y'all (plus shipping).

I'm so OCD...basically after a mint one. No damage / marks etc. Any of these like that?

One of the silver controllers had a gray battery cover (all the others are matching and intact) and it's main control stick has the rubber grip coming off it.

Get me one! I have a battered Wavebird that def needs replacing/repairing, but for $10 I might as well get one is decent condition. How much for shipping?

I loaded up Twilight Princess and I can double up on saying that 16:9 is fixed! Water effects no longer bug out. One tiny quirk where chatacters and unimportant objects disappear in the area past 4:3.

Other than that I can enjoy TP on the cube in 480p widescreen finally. I'm gnna try forcing the anisotropy option and see how much that improves graphics.

I should really get Swiss running on my GameCube already, damn. Datel's SD Media Launcher is the way to go, right?

I have no idea what shipping is to you from Dallas.... I suspect $6 would cover anywhere in the lower 48, but I'm not sure.

Okay, I bought them all. There appeared to be enough interest to justify getting them. televator has sent me a PM asking for 1 gray and 1 silver. I have 7 left, including the silver controller that is goofy. I will be testing them all later tonight to make sure they work and such.

I'm interested in one as well how much are you charging for them?

Might take the last two platinum ones you have. I'll PM you

Multiple wavebirds with one receiver have one purpose. Sticker/CD factory in Super Smash Bros Brawl! Wait, this is the Gamecube thread....

I take it US prices of both also got silly. Back in the day I sold my PAL Symphonia to get Players Choice US Symphonia and Wario Ware Twisted.

Frankly I wouldn't touch PAL Symphonia for game play purposes, pretty fonts aside as it is 50Hz and really is 16.66% slower gameplay (I did compare) and being 50Hz can not be 60fps (so you might as well go for the 30 fps PS3 version). However, it was* the only version of Symphonia that can be forced to run 480p (presumably it runs in 60Hz when you do this) if you have the tools to do this.
*-Not checked in years.

Baten Kaitos is also 50Hz only but no idea of speed issues, sorry.
Since we're on that topic. My general tip for that game is turn off the full summary in battle, every action pausing to bring up a damage breakdown screen makes combat really slow so removing it helps flow greatly. Maybe have it on a bit so you get the hang of how elements work. As for how the game looks on emulator. Well the pre-rendered stuff scaled down to 640*480 don't hold up well, but the few hand drawn bits are great.

Hey everyone. I'm considering importing a Japanese GameCube and was wondering if anyone could answer a question I have... Would a US AC Adapter work with a Japanese GameCube? Or would it fry the system?
A US Gamecube is a Japanese GameCube with on thing changed on the circuit board to determine which BIOS loads (you could mod Japanese Gamecubes into US Gamecubes before the system came out in America and have a switch to interchange them).

I think Nintendo systems since the N64 have had you able to use the AC adapter from one region on any hardware (as the PSU handles the voltage conversion).

The only advantage to a Japanese system (or using BIOS switch over freeloader) is being able to save in Donkey Konga, Mr. Driller and a handful of other games that don't like the non-Japanese filesystem on memory cards.

Still working on the shipping details. I stopped by a nearby post office, and the flat rate box needed to fit a Wavebird will cost $12 for the lower 48; however, they have a padded envelope too that would only cost $7.60 for the lower 48. I'm not too sure about the envelope though... Trying to keep the price low for you guys.

Is that the best? My OCD could not handle buying one in this condition.

No, I took photos of the worse shape ones. There are better condition Wavebirds. I will take more photos and such later tonight when I test them all.

Ok, bad news y'all. Just got home and all but 2 will not work. All will power on, but only 2 will actually communicate with my GameCube. Both are gray. Really surprised to see that many not work... I've tried multiple freqencies and no luck. About to head back to Goodwill and return the 7 that don't work-- already called them, and they said it won't be a problem.

EDIT:

Okay, now I'm not sure what is going on here... Now all are working except 2... It looks like I have to unplug the receiver when I check each controller in order for it to register... Let me keep testing them for awhile. As of right now the messed up silver and one of the gray controllers are the ones not working.

EDIT2:

Okay, it appears that you have to unplug the receiver when ever you switch controllers on the receiver while the Cube is on. I never recalled that being the case. Anyway, I have tried them all out and 7 of them work just fine. One of the gray remotes powers on, but can not communicate with the receiver. One of the silver works fine, minus the fact that the primary control stick will not register right directional movement.

PMs have been sent out to those that contacted me or expressed interest. Based on those requests, I have 2 Wavebird left-- both gray.

They have all been tested with Mario Kart Double Dash and Mario Sunshine. Buttons and control sticks work and they can communicate with my receiver just fine.

Interesting, I never knew! I do think that I'd go for the HD PS3 version at this point myself, if I felt like playing Symphonia. There's something nice about having an old physical copy, but Symphonia was a game I never loved back in the day.

Your point about speed reminds me of the first time I noticed the different in speed in some games between 50Hz/60Hz. Accidentally set Double Dash to 50Hz one time and my timing for getting a boost at the start line was immediately off. It's one of those things you probably don't notice until you notice and suddenly everything is all wrong.

I recently purchased Luigi's Mansion, Wario World, and a used Black GC controller off of Amazon. My original launch-era controller's thumbstick has lost a lot of sensitivity, and my dog chewed up the thumbstick on my second controller. I tried buying shit Wii-era 3rd party controllers, but they have horrid delay, and one of them has a thumbstick with a mind of its own. Once my games come in the mail, I'll post my collection :)

Check out Amazon, I managed to pick up a brand new white GameCube controller from a Japanese seller there just last year. Super long cable too.

Fortunately, those new Smash GC controllers are coming out, right?

You could have bought one of those first party white controllers with the extra long cord though, instead of a 3rd party one.

Nooo I have a unplayed Pal Tales of Symphonia that I paid quite a bit for :( Stop taking me back to reality!

To be fair, I bougth this before I was really aware of how terrible a lot of games and systems actually are in pal. Nowadays, I try to get as much as possible in ntsc.

Finally jumping on the Gamecube wagon that I missed out on all these years (besides playing Smash and Mario Kart at friends houses) via Dolphin.

What are some of the must play single player games?

I'm starting with REmake right now and it's fucking amazing, I will probably play through RE4 again even though I had the PS2 version, and I've heard good things about Eternal Darkness.

Oh shit, I just realized I can finally play the Metroid Prime games...
