wait...

oh my god, dont use that. please, or you'll end up like this:

Even back in 1994, RF was horrendous. Thank fuck we have consistently good RGB support here in the UK. Hooked up my SNES via RGB pretty much immediately back in the day. fuck RF. that adapter you posted will give you the shittiest image you could ever hope to acheive, guaranteed.

Throw it in the bin.
Well, yeah, I got the message from everyone else, but +1 for the gif.

Prettiest Gamecube imo

Panny Q 2 garish

I've never liked the Q's looks. It's something that was cool at the time, but that has aged really, really poorly. Trying too hard to be stylish.

Actually, it's kind of amusing -- I remember making fun of the Gamecube before it came out, back when I was in 7th grade. I called it a retarded lunchbox. But now, I think that thing is some of the best design ever seen in a console. And I think orange is an ideal color for it, especially since I'll be pairing it with my white Gamecube controllers I still have yet to take out of their boxes.

It's like everything about this system has gotten better over time.

lol @ bolded, I think many other people are realizing this too.

Q has always been ugly as sin. Never understood why people wanted one outside of completion.

Haha. Back then I thought the Panasonic Q looked really nice. I bought one years ago, around the time it came out. Cost me quite a lot to ship overseas (+ tax) and I think I actually had to send it back, since it wasn't working. Got it back fixed and then at some point I even bought the special GameBoy Player for it. At multiple points I kind of regretted buying one, but nowadays I think it's nice to own one of the 'rare' consoles. I guess it's worth some money, especially with the gameboy player, but I think I'll keep it for now. :-)

Q Looks ridiculous as shit, esp when it has the GB player attached. Its a giant and I love it. Also spice cube is best cube, I still need to pick one up. That color is so good.

Well, my el-cheapo D-Terminal finally fritzed. The connections in the head must have had too much strain without the plastic covering that the original owner had.

First, I hacked the cable open.

If anyone does this, you only need the red, green, and blue cables and their outer shielding which seems to act as ground.

IMAG0056_zpsymyaqec_edit_1406998067116_zpsedzrdmbf.jpg

Here's the final product. Not pictured is the bright orange gaffer's tape that I used to seal things up. They work great!

So, final verdict once and for all: the D-Terminal is just a different termination on the component cables Nintendo sold in the USA.

I got a Spice Orange GameCube controller from a local PawnShop for $10. They were asking $20 but got it for half that.

The controller is in great condition. Totally gonna use it for Smash 4.

They also had Simpsons Hit and Run for $3, but it was scratched up and I don't know if I'll like it as much as the PS2 version. It was also disc only.

I'll probably buy it tomorrow if it's still there however.

Back then it was quite the "in" thing to do to put a mirror on the front of your DVD player. It's like wood grain in the '70s.

I mean, I can't say I've completely avoided the allure of terrible-looking mirrored electronics. Back in 2007, I built a computer with Antec's P182SE case, which was a giant, full tower case that was mirrored on every side. It was kinda sweet that first week.

So GamecubeGAF...

I'm looking to sell my Gamecube with the Gameboy Player and Nintendo component cables.

Where do you think the best place to put this up would be?

Sell as separate items on ebay or something to maximize profit. They'll sell for more separately than they will as a single lot.

Made some excellent GC pick ups the past couple weeks. Have a couple more titles shipping in, will make a post when they all arrive.

Any Australian collectors have any tips? I know collectors don't like to tell their secrets, but help a brutha out. GC games are so hard to come buy, charity (thrift) stores never have any, Cash Converters only has shovelware and they got expensive, other pawn shops have nothing (except one which specialises in Sydney), Gumtree is annoying because everything is pick up, Game Traders is on and off but they can be a wrought (e.g. Starfox Adventures and Pokemon Colosseum at $60), CEX used to be good but it seems people caught on cause they have nothing these days (I remember they had Pikmin 2 at $35 and Twilight Princess for $45, which is real cheap) and Ebay, which is only good for getting some of the niche titles through auctions. Oh, and people, I remember someone got me Animal Crossing and Donkey Konga a few years ago for cheap from someone else. Am I missing anything? And by the way, it's not just the price, they are so hard to find here.

NZ here but same same. My top tip is to import. The local market is too messed up.

That's damn good work bringing that comp cable back to life and even more easy to use then before!

The old man is trying to get away with an RF adaptor hidden in his jacket?! SWARM! SWARM! SWARM!

Ugh, RF is going to look bad period. RF in this day and age? ICK. Just use AV for now. Uncle Leo, that RF adaptor is NOT like the nice, shiny, repairable watch Jerry threw in the trash, just leave it where ya found it, OK? :p Too bad your TV doesn't have s-video. I'm really glad my 2007 Hitachi plasma does, shame that the new TVs aren't including s-video anymore.

I'd still keep an official RF adapter for collecting purposes.

But I mean only for collecting purposes, hehe.

That's probably what Uncle Leo's excuse is too. He just "collects" them like he occasionally "collects" a pack or two of batteries while he's at the store. He can't help it, he's an old man, he's confused. :p

You told on me Jerry? Your own uncle?

I found something good for us. They have everything, and at good prices as well. There was another similar website but their a bit more expensive and they ran out of most of their stock. On a side, I was going to get Geist and a 007 game, but which 007 is the best? Or should I just get Geist.

Nice find, thanks for sharing!

I've only played Nightfire. It was decent. Haven't played Geist.

Nightfire I feel is the best Bond game of that generation. Agent Under Fire was fairly mediocre on release and even more so now, but the third person Bonds (Everything or Nothing especially) were pretty good. I prefer Nightfire for the first person gameplay, but EoN is quite great too.

I grabbed Geist a few years ago as a nice little oddity. It was alright, but nowhere near the best shooters on the GC,

nice on that modded component cable!

maaaan a buddy found me the case & manual to Sonic Adventure Battle 2, disc only is like $25-30 on ebay...fuuuuu

I haven't imported, mind telling me how the prices on the site are compared to importing? Postage costs always seemed to kill importing for me whenever I was considering it. And Nightfire it is thanks to NinjaCatfish.

Any good places to check the prices of PAL GameCube games? I want to sell quite a bit of my collection. Includes stuff like Gotcha Force, 1080 Avalanche, Doshin the Giant, Eternal Darkness, Gotcha Force,
Metal Arms: Glitch in the System, Metal Gear Solid: Twin Snakes, P.N.03, Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door, Skies of Arcadia: Legends, Tales of Symphonia .

It varies. I pretty much just watch stuff for years until I find a good deal. Patience is key.

Patience is never going to make our local market better though, that's the difference,

Plus if you go NTSC, you gain better versions of your games.

Just had my attention brought to the latest nightly build. Trying it out shortly... :P

Edit: It's beautiful...

Sorry for reflections/bad photos, it's really difficult to take them in the day time. I'll try take some better snaps when it's dark.

I think those photos just sold me on the SD media launcher.

I'm interested in the technical details about 240p GBP.

Are you getting a picture that's truly more accurate to the source or is it just downsampling from 480p or something? I have literally no idea how this works.

Dang, just tried to buy an SD Media Launcher from CodeJunkies and they won't ship to Australia. Amazon UK and US are both out of stock and I doubt they're gonna get more.

Any ideas of other stores that might ship to AU?

This is awesome. So happy to hear it was worked out. Might be a dumb question, but do the GB games look as good as they do running on the Super Game Boy in 240p?

Cool, I'm glad you can run Game Boy Player in 240p. Do you have a tutorial on how to do it?

It's just an option in Swiss. I can help you with Swiss if you haven't used it before. Let me know where you're at with GC homebrew and I can find something appropriate for ya.

I'll get back to you on this when I have some solid information, but as GBA resolution is 240 x 160, it's a lot closer to the original. It won't be exact though because of the slight border around the GBP. Edit: The zoomed out mode would probably be more accurate.

I gave up trying to order one here in NZ so I just put Swiss on a disc. I have a modchip in my cube though. If you want to stick with unmodded, you'll need to find an SD Media Launcher.

I'll take some comparison snaps.

The copy of Luigi's mansion that I ordered from Amazon, ended up being a fraud account. Luckily I can get my money back. Either way, I just want a working copy of Luigi's Mansion :'(

I just checked the prices, the fuck.

Even SA2 is valuable now! I have a feeling that having a GC collection, starting from zero, will be quite an expensive journey in a not so far future.

This is with the zoom function off; it's been awhile since I used the Gameboy Player (plus the disc I'm currently using in Japanese) so the shots I posted yesterday were zoomed in.

Greetings! Welcome to 240p!

Okay I'm looking back and forward and I'm comparing to the screen I'm looking at, and I swear it looks at least 50% better in the flesh...

Edit: GBC looks even better IMO, crisp and clean.

http://youtu.be/l72223Bq_hg

The intro of Metroid Zero Mission running in RGB 240p into an XRGB Mini. Looks pretty excellent in my opinion. Much better than anything else I've tried thus far.

Going to have to see if there's a difference using the component cables over rgb for this.

Okay, this is all looking cool. Am excited for the SD Launcher to arrive! Really kind of surprised Datel still carries it-- seems like a product that they wouldn't be carrying in 2014.

What sort of issues do you mean? I can check for you.

Nothing specific just if there were any problems in general. Looks like its working great though from everything going around.

I'll have to order up an sd launcher it seems, whats the best place to get them? The link that was posted earlier?
