That sounds pretty nice. My only experience with GCN steering wheels was a crappy Multi-platform ps2/Xbox/GameCube one from madcatz :/
Let me tell you something, that Logitech Speedforce wheel is so worth it. I've been using it for two weeks now and forgot to post on how awesome it is on here.
I've got one of those wheels (without the pedals) and R Racing Evolution. I've not played it for aaaaages but it's one of my favourite racers. That I still own it is testament to its quality. The handling takes a bt of getting used to, because it's arcadey and it's got a bit of a unique feeling. But if you stick with it you'll learn its intricacies and hopefully like it.
Decided to pick it up and I'm really glad I did. I've played a couple sim/arcade style racers but R:Racing is the best I've played. It could be because of the wheel though but still, it's fantastic.
Do it! And... does it really have interchangeable caps to fit the most common GameCube colors?
Yes, each wheel comes with three different colored caps which are black, indigo, and spice orange to match your Gamecube.
STORY TIME!
This past weekend I found an ad on craigslist of some guy selling a pair of GC Logitech Speedforce wheels with pedals for $25. Yes, two wheels and two pedals all for $25. Needless to say I bought that shit asap. The wheels are still available online but the pedals for some reason are MIA so I know I can make some decent money off this. I kind of want to keep them though since now I'm only 27 wheels away from having 30 player F-Zero races.
Speaking of F-Zero...god damn that game with this wheel. It fights you every step of the way. Every movement, every button press causes some reaction to the wheel. It's not just a simple rumble, it accurately moves depending on what's happening to your machine. Crash into a wall to your left, the wheel moves right. Someone boosting past next to you near by to your right, the wheel moves left a little. It is amazing that this type of game was released over ten years ago with this type of support.
But there is one problem. Like I mentioned earlier, because there are little to no videos of this wheel, I wanted to make a Let's Play to demonstrate how fantastic it is. I plugged in my Wii with component cables so I can get the best picture for the recording and unfortunately, the Wii has trouble running F-Zero GX with the wheel. The wheel works perfectly, but for some reason the emulation does not. I know Wii doesn't have perfect GC emulation but I've been able to play Grand Prix just fine with a controller but it does not work with the wheel. The moment I select a Grand Prix, a machine and about to enter the Machine settings screen, the game hangs on a black screen and the music still continues to play. Practice mode still works though but how can anyone do a Let's Play of F-Zero when all you can do is Practice mode. I haven't checked if a similar problem occurs in R:Racing or any other game but the only games I own that support the wheel are F-Zero and R:Racing.
So, I've been relegated to using my GC with AV cables. I've been so used to component that it's hard to go back but the wheel is too good that I kind of don't care that much anymore. That being said, I refuse to make a video until I get my hands on some GC component cables. This wheel deserves to be demonstrated in the highest quality video possible soooo...ya...I've joined the GC component hunting group. Wish me luck...
