I hope they're able to add that in a subsequent release. Then again I'm not holding my breath if they don't have access to nintendo documentation.

SD Media Launcher came today.

FYI, totally not region free. They sent a US one (probably due to my address), and it does not work on my JP cube. I'll dig my US Cube out of storage to test out GBI.

this sounds mostly good! gunsmithx should be region/modchipping GC's out here sometime soon so i'm interested, what'd the launcher come out to?

Which noteworthy PAL releases are locked to 50 hz? I've done some research and found that Tales of Symphonia, Baten Kaitos, Luigi's Mansion, Animal Crossing, many Mario Sports and Parties, Ikaruga, Pikmin 1 & 2, Wario World are. Please correct me if i'm wrong on any of these. Considering selling my PAL copies for some of these and get the NTSC versions instead. What about Resident Evil 2 & 3? If they port the PAL PSX versions then they're bound to be aswell, or?

I think this may have been asked before but what does everyone think about Phantasy Star Online Episode I & II Plus these days? It's one of the few GameCube exclusives I'm missing but for whatever reason I'm having trouble pulling the trigger. In general I don't like to get games solely because of their value/rarity so I'm hoping that the game itself is actually fun to play these days.

It has 4 player split screen which is a blast to play with friends, certainly worth a look if you can get a few friends over for the day.

the multiplayer doesnt work flawlessly.... you need to unlock all the stuff until you can use it for the multiplayer.

there are plenty of other good multiplayer games for cube....
try crystal cronicles if you have 4gba+the cables

I got my SDMedia Launcher in the mail a few days ago and went and got a SanDisk 4GB SDHC SD Micro card since the little insert said the Media Launcher does't support bigger sizes than 4GBs. But what should be on the card and how can I get the Action Replay disc to recognize it? It just boots the standard AR and asks what GC game I'm trying to load....

Wait the PAL SD Media Launcher works in the US? Months ago I was posting about how they were OOS in the US and people were saying the PAL one wouldn't work.

Anyways, ordered.

It can't see SDHC cards. So you need a non-HC card.

REALLY?! Fuuuuuuuuuuuuuu! Non-SDHC cards are freakin' endangered around here! I guess I can temporary move my Wii Fatal Frame IV translation files off till I'm ready to play it again for the time being....

Someone posted a link to the Codejunkies order page, and turns out, they will mail you a US version of the SD Media Launcher (US Action Replay Disc basically).

See:

the card is region free, the disc is not.

SheepyGuy's post might provide a bit of hope, since you are from the US maybe they will send you a NTSC one even though it's not up for sale anymore.

Also, no SDHC sucks. Fortunately I have one or two 2GB cards.

Exactly! Probably because if you have a NTSC region address, they'll mail you the appropriate version to you. I have a few SD cards, but outside the one in my Wii...I can't remember where the heck I put them....*sigh*
Basically made this 4GB MicroSD useless to me...kinda bummed...

My bad about the region lock, but at least they send the proper region disc. It makes sense not to limit their sales to Europe. USA is the largest consumer after all.

Like I said, I ordered from the U.S. and what they sent me works on my NTSC machines.

The lack of SDHC is minor though a bit annoying. But you only need a small card to launch apps anyway. Game Isos can be put on a SDHC as necessary and the apps themselves tend to be SDHC compatible... Otherwise, how the hell would you launch an ISO in a practical manner?

So I ordered an SD Media Launcher from the UK Codebreakers website for my North American GCN just to see if it was region free. If it wasn't, I figured I could at least get a boot disc to bypass the region issue.

Look what they sent me instead:

The North American version. They must've taken a look at my American address and sent me this one instead =)

It looks like there's still a stock of these out there and available (at least in the UK). I'd pick one up fast if you want one.

I'll finally be able to play GBC and GBA games in 240p with Swiss now.

Pricing for GC games is so dumb. Looking at eBay, the difference between prices people are asking and what is actually selling for BKO is silly. Auctions are going for around $30 or less, but most listings are asking like $60 for open copies.

I've seen this in every system I've looked in to. Think it's a flaw with eBay (really, auction sites as a whole) more than an attribute of any single market

So now that I have GameBoy Interface...how do I go about getting a 240p picture. Or at least, how do I know I'm getting that versus 480i? Swiss goes into 480p mode since I guess it does that when it detects Component cables right off the bat....

Here's a few examples I took:

GameBoy Player:

GameBoy Interface (ULL version):

Just making sure I am getting what I think I'm getting....

Minutes ago I observed myself taking all my loose mem cards and placing them in their little homes inside GC cases, I then proceeded to place fabric softening towels in each case so that my cases always smell spring time fresh....

I have a sickness

AND THE ONLY PRESCRIPTION IS MOAR VIDYA GAMEZ!

the fabric softener thing is a good way to neutralize the smoke smell in used games from smoking households

I purchased an SD Media Loader but I'm unsure where to get (or the names of the files) that would allow me to force 480p for all games and 240p of GBP. Is there anyone who can be of assistance?

Swiss nightly builds.

Best way to get the latest functionality out of that app. That's for 480p and other amenities for GC games.

Here is the GBi thread.

IMO the OP should be spruced up a bit to tout these functions among other things.

Word of warning regarding SD media launcher, if you have an NTSC machine the PAL disk doesn't work even if it's chipped. The disk boots but all menu elements are replaced by abstract shapes.

SCORE!!!!

CIB and MINT!

I thought I love this game (it was basically Baten Kaitos which I love with more lively and believable characters and dialogues) then I kept playing and at some point (I think Diadem) it was just too much for me. Way, way too much rehashing and a horrible pacing. I also don't like the new combat, they just should have made the combat from the original much faster with less padding and add attacks that let you hit multiple enemies.

Maybe it gets a lot better afterwards, though.

Awesome, thank you!

Are there other files I should download for someone with an DOL-001 + component cables (and Hori pad)?

Nope. I've got the same privileges as you going on and I'm pretty much covered with these apps... though to be honest I play my GC games on the WiiU now.

Always wanted to try out Wario World back in the day, but couldn't justify full price because of polarizing user opinions. Some say it is fun while others deem it as too repetitive.
However, finally stumbled on a mint copy cib for a tenner that I just couldn't pass up on :).

Really eager to give it a spin.

Edit:
After passing up on Megaman x collection before, I stumbled upon another copy for a more reasonable price and today it arrived in mint condition. Still need a lot more to complete my collection though :(. Its becoming so damn expensive...

Been playing a bit of Custom Robo...

I take it that the appeal of this game is in the multi player? I'll most likely resell this... Maybe get a trade for Chibi Robo. I do <3 Chibi Robo.

Nah, it's not my style. The anime-ism filled story and the arcade combat. The combat would be fine for an arcade game with no story but it doesn't hold my attention for very long.

Edit: Oh and those horrible gibberish voices! Ugh! Soooooooo bad. Thankfully, you can speed them up.

Custom Robo is such a great game, the story is okay (and has some interesting twists later on), but it's the series' really great battle system that really makes the game so good. The N64, GC, and DS Custom Robo games all play very similarly, except that the GC one has four player simultaneous play while those other three don't. I'd call it basically sort of like Virtual-On but actually good. (Sorry, I'm not a fan of Virtual On...) Sure, the multiplayer is very good, but the battle system is also great fun in single player as well.

As for Chibi-Robo, there's one where I don't get the appeal at all. It seems really dull and uninteresting, lost me very quickly.

It takes a while to get going, but has one of the best, craziest, most fun and very pixar-like stories ever to be in a game.

I think of the game as Animal Crossing meets Toy Story meets Wall-E.

What's everyone's favorite third-party game? Mine is a tie between Twin Snakes (don't judge me) and Soul Calibur II.

I think it's ridiculous how expensive Gotcha Force is on the used market. Did a popular youtube personality make a video about it or something?

I know, I remember seeing that a few years ago for like $5-10 bucks in a used bin somewhere. Those days are behind us I guess.

I don't know to be honest. I got most of the games I wanted when they were new and in 06/07 when prices were at their lowest at GameStop but unfortunately I hadn't heard of Gotcha Force until a couple years ago which by then was too late.

Tales of Symphonia. Such a memorable game.

I have it but still need to get around to playing it...I remember when it came out people were all over it.

I read your post, and the one below saying Monkey Ball, and thought "yeah, that's probably my favorite, too". I love me some Monkey Ball.

But then I scanned over my Gamecube games, and holy crap, it is not that easy of a question! Resident Evil 4 jumps out as a top contender, and probably the most popular answer. But how about Beyond Good & Evil, or Hulk: Ultimate Destruction, or Sands of Time, or Ikaruga, or Spider-Man 2 (my personal favorite open world game ever), etc.
