The Nintendo GameCube Appreciation and Collecting Thread.

TimeSplitters: Future Perfect is one of the best first person shooters I have ever played! It's fun, funny, silly, action-packed, and just plain awesome. It's really well written, to the point you will want to come back to it later on for the laughs! Cortez is such a cool hero. It's a shame the series seems dead and buried now.

It also has really great shooty bits, and the multiplayer is great, too as with all the TS games really.

Highly recommended!

I had Freedom Fighters in my hands the other day for $10 and couldn't pull the trigger mainly because I knew I didn't have time to play it right now. I really need to put that in my Cube collection though.

If you have an original Xbox, Freedom Fighters is 720p I believe. Looks great. Still, Gamecube version is no slouch though!

I believe Freedom Fighters has some control issues due to the controller having fewer buttons than the DualShock 2 and Xbox pad. I've never heard anyone who actually played that comment on it, though.

So I finally bit, and managed to find Ikaruga on Amazon for near $40. And I freaking love it. It just makes me appreciate the Gamecube's awesome library even more.

Gamecube > PS2

Yeah, I went there.

Alright cool. Never played the DK games on GCN and was looking around Kijiji and saw the ad. Going to meet him tomorrow :)

So i just picked up a GC controler so i could play Super Smash Bros Brawl. Found a copy of Super Mario Sunshine and decided to get that as well. Now i have a hunkering for more Gamecube games! What are some games you guys would recommend? I was going to get Wind Waker, but decided to wait on the Wii U release!

Viewtiful Joe
Ikaruga
Metroid Prime 1 & 2
Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door
Mega Man Anniversary Collection
Mega Man X Collection
Sonic Mega Collection
Sonic Adventure 2: Battle

Was going to say you could get Sonic games on other systems but Mega Collection is probably like $5. Might be one of the cheapest options for those games, I don't remember if it has lock-on support though.

I'd also recommend Fire Emblem Path of Radiance if you can find it for a decent price.

It does. Sonic 3 & Knuckles, Knuckles in Sonic 2, and Blue Sphere have to be unlocked though.

I was looking around some old A/V equipment at my parents house and stumbled upon a receiver that supports Pro Logic II. I never had the opportunity to experience my in surround when I was younger and I want to know which game benefited from it most.

I just won this on eBay:

By far the most I've ever spent on a game but I want to play it and I can't see it getting any cheaper in the near future so thought I might as well go for it.

Yea it's always a tough pill to swallow if an old, used game is almost twice as expensive as a brand new, current release. :/

Still wanna get FE:PoR as well. Someday.

My favorite FE game. I like that it has a largely political story with almost no supernatural influence, which isn't something you see often in JRPG type games. And the gameplay is really well rounded, RD and Awakening both add some things I like, but at the cost of having more issues than PoR.

I still haven't opened my copy of the GC or Wii FE games. Dunno. I love the series, I just haven't gotten around to it.

I can confirm that the Intec montor with component cables does not work, and only showed green signal with the 3 cords I tested for PS2.

It's 480i only.

Question

I have a black label RE4 gamecube version still sealed. I no longer own a gamecube and just know i have that game that has been in my house a long time, is it worth anything?

how is Die Hard: Vendetta? bearing in mind i loved trilogy for PS1 where many didn't

ps huh its like a few dollars on ebay
Not very good. The framerate was pretty abysmal and the gameplay clunky. I haven't played it since release, but I can't imagine the passage of time has done it any favours.

Still if you can get it for a few dollars and like the Die Hard franchise, you might just get your money's worth.

I picked up 1080. I remember not loving it like I did the original back in college but I think it's pretty cool. It's no Wave Race BS but still good.

These are beautiful! Such smooth lines and flow.

Did you draw these?

Thank you very much - yes all drawn from scratch, I've spent about 3 months with a Gamecube covered in post it notes, a ruler and all of the accessories on my desk.

If you follow @dol001 on Twitter that account will keep you updated in terms of print progress / when they'll be available etc.

I'll check out your twitter when I get home.

Have you done other systems? I would love to see you draw dreamcast also.

As a matter of fact yes :) This was the last one we did:

There are a few of these still available - The pictures don't really do them justice, they were all printed by hand on Japanese A1 stock, 100 edition only and all hand numbered by us.

Would you recommend either of the two 1080 games to someone who has never played a Snowboarding game before, loved Wave Race and has always been interested in 1080 from a far distance?

I hope OG 1080° Snowboarding (N64) comes to Wii U VC in 60Hz. I'd definitely get that. So this is mostly about the GCN version.

danclarke that GC stuff is stunning - you're the same guy who did the awesome MD work, eh? can't wait to see more of your stuff man, glad to have you around!

I'm really, really tempted to pick some of those up. Don't have a place for them yet, but I will absolutely find a way once I move.

1080 GC seems to blend tricks in better (it has a meter that builds the more tricks you do, when it's full you go faster)..

I think it's worth checking out.

I really need to pick up another GameCube. Around 2006 I gave my GameCube and games to my girlfriend at the time's co-worker's kids for Christmas because he couldn't get them anything. I even gave them the gba player and my wavebirds. I don't regret it in the least, I'd just like to get another. I come across them on Craigslist but they're always asking more than what I want to pay.

I set up Devolution + USB Loader GX on my Wii recently, and I am in Gamecube heaven. All my Cube (and Wii) discs are ripped to Hdd and run perfectly. You can even force widescreen on them. It might not be the original hardware, but seeing as how it brings my library out of storage and to the press of a button, it's a Cube renaissance in my house right now.
