My latest acquisition

qbnv.jpg

Obviously I'm talking about Paper Mario. Stoked to finally have a copy, it's rather expensive here in Aus.

Picked up a $10 lot at a garage sale today.

-Purple cube
-Wavebird with receiver
-3(!) first-party memory cards
-Mario Kart Double Dash!!
-Starfox Adventures
-Super Monkey Ball 2
-Zoocube
-Hot Wheels Velocity X
-Scooby Doo Night of 100 Frights
-Simpsons Hit and Run (is this uncommon or something? I checked ebay and it's got a few sold listings over 20. I'll have to try this game later)

and a few Disney games that I'll probably get rid of.

Bought it mainly for the Wavebird, I've been looking for a second foreverrrrr. Also didn't have Starfox Adventures, so picked up the whole lot. Can't really complain at that price.

Decided to box up all my cube stuff but took some pictures of the final set. I clocked in at 91 games (if you count pacman VS anyways) along with having all the relevant oddball hardware (BBA, system, gba player, cube/gba cords, keyboard, mics, memory cards, controllers, bongos and DDR mats) so I think that's all for me on this system :P

It's only 2 distinct games but, A Wonderful Life got an offshoot called Another Wonderful Life that to my understanding is basically the same but with a girl and minor alterations, could be mistaken though as I have not played that one yet. It seemed to be a trend with the Harvest Moon series for awhile though, as it happened on the GBA, DS and Gamecube, now they actually let us select girls and guys in the same game those generous bastards :P

Gamecube related question:
My current set-up is an NTSC Gamecube outputting with S video where half my copies are PAL (born and raised in England but moved here) and half are NTSC (mainly my girlfriends games.) I just bought a component cable from Ninty AUS and my good friend there will be shipping it to me.
I play my PAL games via an Action replay and that works fine for most of them, the TV i'm using displays most of the games perfectly once they're set to 60hz but some of them (Pikmin 1, Rayman 3) won't output in 60hz at all. Will using the component cables somehow allow these games to play or was I dreaming that this was ever a solution?

No, that's what Another Wonderful Life is, like the original version but you play as a girl and there are a few minor changes.

Do you guys want to know something horrible?

I have these component cables, and my system is PAL so I can't get the progressive scan unless I buy a freeloader / modchip my GC and rebuy my games in NTSC.

On the plus side, I got the component cables for $20!!

EDIT:

Oh hell yes! I just found a Freeloader for $20! Progressive scan here I come :D

I'll double your investment right now if you're interested!

Sorry mate, I don't think I'll be letting go of them any time soon. I just managed to pick up a freeloader for $20 too so I'll be buying some NTSC 480p compatible GC games soon to put them to their full use!

Component is still a huge improvement over composite even on PAL games anyway. I posted a picture a few pages back, it's not very good but the difference is pretty vast.

Dude, even with PAL games, component cables look worlds better than composite.

I don't have the ones in cardboard slip covers, like Pac-Man VS here, but here it goes. I've been wanting to do this for a while.

Anyone ever use the Gamecube Monitor? A bundle went up on CL that has a screen included... I don't think I'd ever use it, but it looks pretty cool :)

I used to have one, but I don't know what happened to it. It's not something I'd particularly care to replace, but I made used to make use of it in the car on road trips and stuff.

Apparently there are some decent ones and some awful ones. If it's one of the better ones you could probably sell it for more than it's worth in terms of usefulness.

Hmmm... good to know. Probably no way to tell which version this is from this excellent craigslist photo, but here's the pic:

That's definitely not the Zenith one.

Can't tell if it's the Intec or Mobile Monior, it's so blurry, and it doesn't look quite like either. Supposedly the Mobile Monitor isn't very good.

Yeah, apologies for the quality, that's the crappy CL res, unfortunately. I'll have to email the guy and see what model it is.

Thanks for the insight!

Quick question.

I have a PAL DOL-001 GC with official Nintendo component cables and a freeloader to switch regions.

I am about to buy some NTSC GC games to get that sweet 480P, have I ticked all the boxes here?

Or will my PAL GC console never output progressive scan even with all the above listed equipments.

You must have one of the biggest VG collections on GAF lol. I remember your other threads.

Yep, this is my setup and progressive works fine on NTSC games.

Possibly, but some systems like the Snes/Nes are still sorely lacking in terms of my own library, but some day i'll knock em all out. The cube was a fun system to collect for but, is very similar to the Dreamcast actually. Both in terms of the amount of accessories available on it (important ones) and the amount of games I own is almost identical on both, though obviously the average cube game is far more meaty so that matters.

It's a nice feeling to have quality to pick from on any system, but also annoying to find all that matter :P

Let the spending begin!

Getting MK: Deception and RE4 first. Maybe a wavebird too.

Hooray! I've actually decided I'll make NTSC games a priority now that I have component cables. In many cases they're a lot cheaper too! I recently picked up Fire Emblem and Metal Gear Solid Twin Snakes off a GAF member, they look great!

That is the Interact monitor. It's okay but you're not going to find a "great" monitor for the GameCube. So I think any of them will do.

I still wish Nintendo would've come out with that monitor they showed off at E3 2002 or 2003 (I can't remember) that used the component plug instead of the composite one. It would've been sooo good.

I was just thinking Gaf needs a buy and sell forum. I've got Twin Snakes on PAL but I'd love to pick that up on NTSC.

Any titles you would suggest for me to pick up?

Can anybody confirm if this will work? Using a freeloader disc to change the region with the following hardware / discs.

GC Console: Pal
Gameboy player unit: Pal (not sure if there is any difference between a PAL/NTSC/JP unit)
Gameboy player disc: NTSC

You should be fine, I have a PAL GC with a JP GameBoy Player and disc and they work fine with the two different freeloaders I have.

Today I have re-joined your echelons GC-GAF. After selling my GC back in 2008, now I came across a black one for only $10. Couldn't say no to that.

Games I'd say you're missing.. Still damn impressive and makes me miss my old collection.

- Beach Spikers
- Beyond Good and Evil
- Crash Tag Team Racing
- Fight Night Round 2
- Freedom Fighters
- Gotcha Force
- Metal Arms
- Midway Arcade Treasures 1-3
- Pokemon Channel
- Pokemon Box
- Prince of Persia series
- Rayman 3
- Timesplitters 2
- Splinter Cell series

Also does anyone have this game? I had completely forgot about it until I stumbled upon the Wiki page the other day.

I've actually collected quite a few Gamecube games lately. Trying to focus on the bigger titles first.

Just bought myself "Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door".
No manual in the game case.. ,but the game works and that's the most important.
For some reason the game is quite rare and expensive (at least in my country) ,but I got it for a decent price.

I never beat it, i made it to Rawk Hawks wrestling thing and gave up, dunno why though

and here i am trying to sell it haha, smh at me , i should play it this weekend.

I did find REmake for $4 at a thrift store last week, for $4 its a good buy B^)
