The Nintendo GameCube Appreciation and Collecting Thread.

Wow, that's quite the high quality collection.

How about Phantasy Star Online Episodes I & II Plus, Phantasy Star Online Episode III C.A.R.D. Revolution (it's a very different game, but I still liked it a lot), and Wario Ware: Mega Party Games and Wario World?

Wario World is in my collection. :) I had no idea Wario Ware was remade for the Gamecube.. going to have to grab that one.

Some new pics of my collection

So yeah...duplicates...
I bought Odama last weekend but I only got multiple copies because they were $1 for game + mic. I also ended up buying a third copy of Paper Mario because...I don't know. The rest of my dupes come from buying games in bundles.

I am forever spoiled by GCN.

Awesome non jaggies graphics, lightning fast loading, and the trademarked quality over quantity. To these days I still think GCN is actually more powerful than the Wii and maybe the Wii U in some games.

Amazing.

This is nonsense babble. Use different words.

thinking about billy the hatcher, megaman collection, star fox assault and chibo robo... but back then i played them and it didnt catch me... so...

really proud of my orange and turquoise gamecube from japan and france.

and my gamecube in use is black.

From October pick up thread The elusive hunt for 8 player MK Double Dash continues.

Got a second gamecube with 4 controllers and double dash yesterday night. I've only had one gamecube for the longest time and got rid of my copy of double dash. I'm looking to buy a second copy and two more controllers so I can get some 8 player matches going

Thankfully my first broadband adatper came in today through the mail as well. Still trying to hunt down a second one but all the ebay ones ship to States only, or cost an arm and a leg.

I'll give you that the Gamecube has better image quality than the Wii.

Wow, I've never met someone that didn't like Chibi Robo. Now I want to go back and play it again (A.K.A. Finish it).

Found Metal Gear Solid: The Twin Snakes complete in box today. It's in really nice condition. Super happy with this pick up, especially because I had never been to this particular retro store before.

Anybody know where I can find a complete list of Gamecube-games released in Japan? I tried sorting on Wikipedia, but it seems to miss a few games, like the Jikkyou Powerful Pro Yahyuu-games (baseball) which there were like 8 of.

Are these worth a decent amount? I have a complete in box I wouldn't mind selling.

I hate to break it to you enewtabie, but Puppeteer is not a GameCube game.

Congrats on picking up one of the best Mario Karts though (and don't let anyone tell you otherwise).

MKDD is so unfairly shat on IMO. It's not my favorite, but it's much better than it's given credit for.

I have a decent GC collection. But have never been able to successfully post pics. Hence, the lack of an avatar. Just don't get how to do it.

Upload them to a website somewhere, like minus.com

Copy the link of the image, and then press the box that has a mountain looking object in it when posting. It'll generate
(address goes inbetween the brackets).

Getting closer to realizing the dream of playing Zelda Four Swords, Pacman Vs, and Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles with all GameCubes! I've been able to grab all the Cubes for $20 or $25. Still need to get 3 more GBA players and 2 link cables. I have one boot disc, and I'm fairly sure you can use the same disc for all the players. The Cube just needs to boot to the player and then it doesn't need it anymore.

Anyone know where I can get some real cheap GBA Players?

It's going to be difficult. They have increased in value lately so you're probably not getting one for less that $35 online, even if they're used. Hit up local craigslist for gamecube lots and see if you get lucky.

WHY ISN'T THE ORDER OF GAMECUBE COLOR SYMMETICAL!?!

Of note, you're good to go for Pac-man Vs. It only needs one "GBA".

Better? ;)

I guess I lucked out today, because I was just able to buy 4 players on ebay (no boot discs) for $14.99 each! No shipping costs either. Not bad considering they were retailing for $49.99 in the summer 2003 in North America. WIsh I had access to more boot discs, but as long as I have the one, then I should be fine.

Also, I noticed that the only Cube that I have that is missing the Digital Out port uses black plastic on the rear side rather than the platinum. Is this common for the Indigo Cube's too that have no Digital Out port?

Basically the ones without the Digital Out are the later version of the Cube, so you'll find them in all the main colors. The original model number is DOL-001 and the one without the Digital Out is DOL-101.

Nice haul. I had a brain fart and forgot you didn't need the disc. The prices I mentioned were complete with the software disc.

It's kinda shit if you want to go it alone. Single player is EXACTLY the same game as GBA Wario Ware, but modified so it looks shittier and feels worse to play. And I really love the GBA version of Wario Ware.

The multiplayer games are a wonderful diversion, and the Jimmy game is what I expected from wario ware on the Wii but never got, yet, really, the game is not worth more than 15 bucks. If you can find it for less, even better.

So I just learned that all the NTSC Gamecube boxarts have the side labels with the GC stuff at the bottom. What's up with that?!

2f069c11-24bf-40f2-9016-8b14aae6b91b.jpg

Why do PAL games have that ugly triangle at the bottom? Edit: Apparently it's for what part of the PAL region the game is from. That would explain why my Xenoblade import has a green triangle.

But yeah, the Gamecube label just continues from the black section on the back of the case on NTSC cases.

Recently brought my Gamecube down from the loft as a result of this fantastic thread. A few things I (re)noticed.

The design of this console is faultless to my eyes. How did they make it so small? Zipping into action with barely a sound or hesitation, it feels built to last another 12 years. Reaffirmed my opinion that it might be worth something in a few years and nearly but it back in its box...

Curiosity got the better of me though, so onto the games:

Sunshine - still my favourite Mario game, the holiday atmosphere, Fludd, pretty much everything
Metroid Prime - atmosphere still there but repetitive and those respawning enemies still grate
Eternal Darkness - fascinating, original, but doesn't quite scare as it should
REMake - improved in some areas but still hold the original with more affection
Resident Evil 4 - a real rollercoaster, deserves all the praise it gets
Wave Race Blue Storm - wonderful physics but cluttered course design still annoys
Viewtiful Joe - massively addictive and more dazzling than I remember it
Killer 7 - warped genius, need to sit down and absorb it all in again
Ikaruga - still no 1CC, and my reactions haven't lasted as well as the GC
Soul Calibur 2 - good, but nagging feeling the DC original was better
Zelda: Wind Waker.- life-affirming one minute but a grind the next. No changes there.

A couple of games I'll no doubt add to my collection are Super Smash Bros Melee and F-Zero GX. Particularly interested in rediscovering the latter, never got on with it at the time and sent it back after a few days.

I've heard murmurrings that the old version of the GC Action Replay/Freeloader forces 50hz-only PAL games into 480i, but have found no concrete evidence for such a thing. It'd be nice to play my copy of Pikmin and Rayman 3 on my NTSC cube, not to mention F Zero AX would be fun to play.
Can anyone confirm this? My newer action replay doesn't do this so I'm screwed with certain games. Another thing is: I've noticed a distinct lack of Doshin the Giant and Dream Mix TV World FIghters in this thread. Yes they both need importing to the US, but they should be part of any Gamecube collection.

I'm kinda chasing the same little rabbit you are. The same company makes the SD loader kit which I believe allows you to run a program called "Swiss" which I think gives you options for video output.... but alas I too can't find anything concrete.

Swiss apparently even allows you to run games in 16:9, but it looks like no one on GAF knows much about it from the last time I asked.. :/

So I plan on getting a panasonic Q soon, hard but not impossible. The only thing rarer that O REALLY want as part of my collection is this
dscf4132.jpg

The SH-GB10-H Gameboy player just for the Q. I know this thing is rare, but is it so rare that I'm fucked?

It doesn't help that the wiki page on it is completely vague. Like was it made for the purposes of some sort of underground secrete society? Like I understand that GAF being as large as it is makes it a bit more "mainstream" than the dedicated specialty retro sites, but those people must be keeping secrets somehow... lol!

I'm pretty sure they use gc-forever.com as their hideout, but I didn't find any tutorials or the likes.

This looks like something I should try out though.

^what the...how? im lookin at that link and still not getting it...

also anyone have or know where to find a cheap double disc GC case? just picked up Baten Kaitos for a song, need somewhere to put it!

I'm still a little vague on the details ATM. but certain devices that adapt SD cards to be inserted into the memory card slots in combination with some software will allow you to run home brew apps. One of these apps is called Swiss and gives you options to run games in display modes of your choosing.

The app can be found here: http://www.gc-forever.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=25&t=1003

Now I just need to find a suitable device to feed it into my GC...

Edit: aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaand a bingo! http://www.gc-forever.com/wiki/index.php?title=Datel's_Maxdrive_Pro

One thing I don't think I've seen in anyone's collection here is Bomberman Generation. I mean it was a gamecube exclusive that many people liked and even got an 81 on metacritic. Get on that shit, GAF.

that's awesome televators, post back when you get a chance to try it out!
