The Nintendo Switch has become the system people love to love

In regards to the Vita, the Vita is well known for it's niche "moe" and lolicon Japanese games. Hence why the it's a dancing loli. In regards to the switch it's a play on the switch being a successor to the vita.

Wonder if we'll see Switch replace vita as the handheld of choice for VN ports. Looks like 720p is still the de facto standard for these games, which should make porting a much easier process...

ok...I see what your saying. Still a lot of speculation though...Cerny himself stated he still thinks new gens are great. We still need to wait and see what the big three are doing.

Agreed, but no more speculation than the idiotic post I quoted, lol.

I feel Sony will have no choice but to follow Microsoft and Scorpio. So Death Stranding and other games release in 2019, and they expect you to buy a new console and new games and still own a last gen console for games that JUST released while Scorpio/Scorpio 2 plays all games, even BC Xbox360 titles? Good luck with that one :p

The wording was "over the same timeframe".

So PS4 is three and a bit years old. By the time the Switch has been out on the market for that length of time, it will have more exclusives. Nintendo's own output - all internal teams are solely developing for Switch - will see to that by itself.

And there's nothing "warrior-ish" about saying a console exclusive isn't an exclusive. Because it isn't.
in the context of a forum perhaps not, larger audience, I think so. We know there's simply tons of people that don't game on PC. And saying things like "it doesn't count" implies those games don't increase the value and perception of the systems they debut on, when we know that isn't true. That's my point, it's ok to point out if a game is available elsewhere, but I don't think "it doesn't count" is a good term in general.

Besides that...with graphics and the whole identity of Switch, it's like we're celebrating the bottom line, great games and how fun it is to offer the experience to other people because of Switch. I think games are highlighted on the platform well...that's what it's about to me, the games. Nintendo is a great champion of the bottom line, which is why I just think it's a dumb argument to talk about exclusives who will have the most etc...Because the bottom line is PS4 has a ton of good games, a lot you can only play on that console. Simply because Switch is out doesn't negate all the exclusives that already exist for it, and I don't see everything getting the Disgaea or Setsuna treatment. Each console brings something to the table. And there's just a air of something can't be great without bringing something else down. It's pretty annoying.

Great time to be a gamer I think.

pretty sure those anime games will be on the switch also, that gif will be accurate in the future lol

Nah, Nintendo would censor them too much, so there'd be no point.

Stole... hahaha. It's a gif used to mock the switch as much as anything else as the vita is a viewed as the dead niche lolicon game machine was mocked relentlessly for it.

It's why the Vita 2 is a doubled compliment and was until the switch had a decent launch.

If you say so.

I also own an xb1 and ps4 and other then Destiny 2 and RDR2, I am looking forward to what Nintendo has coming out.

ARMS, Splatoon 2, Mario Oddessey, Xenogears 2 combined with BOTW and MK8D I would say that's a pretty damn good combination of exclusives for a system that won't even be out for a year when all those are released. I would actually say that would be one of the best first years for a system in a long time.

Yeah the comparisons to the PS4's library are pretty absurd, that's been out for 3 and a half years, the Switch is just over 2 months old. Compare their launch years for a more interesting picture.

I don't care about or even really like the portable aspect (aka the whole identity of the system) but I am rooting for the Switch because the better it does the more Nintendo games we will probably get.

yeah that makes sense, but the guy I was quoting was saying it's going to have more exclusives soon?? Like Ps output is just going to fall off a cliff or something. Doesn't make much sense to me

I think he was implying a PS5 in 2018 or 2019, which would mean PS4 support dries up.

Haha don't need to say so since I saw it. Regardless it's a bit odd you refer to these sorts of things as stole either way. They're just funny gifs dude.

yeah I'm interested in seeing what they do. I don't plan on buying new hardware for a while. Switch has been everything I need when I'm not around my Ps4, and I'm playing it more now with the great games that released.

I can't imagine having to upgrade so quickly in 2019 or even 2020. They have to do this smart.

If it can get a healthy lineup of games that I want I can see if becoming my most used gaming system after PC. As of right now I love it but I wish there was some ports or VC to fill in my gaming time with. I can only play Zelda for so long before I wanna change it up. Mario Kart is aight but I need single player stuff.

I don't like Nintendo as a company (they're decades behind in online multiplayer but they're about to paywall it anyway. There's still no centralized accounts for purchases...) and I don't usually like their hardware - it's not surprising that they are able to make a profit on the devices themselves.

But I'll be damned if they don't make the best video games lol. So I hope the Switch does does great.

The bolded hasn't been true for a very long time. Hell, I just went to delete Mr. Shifty from my Switch and it gave me the option to archive it rather than fully delete it, though I honestly don't know what the difference is there.

Why are you in a thread arguing about a console that you aren't even going to get?

Why do you need someone to tell you what exclusives the Switch has coming, everyone has google?

1. Hopefully I won't.
2. I've google'd and found zilch. Hence asking humans "what's supposed to be coming out?"

Odyssey has my attention for sure. Not sure if it's too late to jump into Xenogears. I just hope the big N has more than their usual unveilings pre-E3.

The modularity of the system is a revelation. My roommate donates plasma and has to keep one arm perfectly straight while he does. Made gaming while he's there waiting for an hour+ impossible, until he figured out that with tilt controls, auto accelerate and setting the system up in tabletop mode he was able to play Mario Kart 1 handed.

He's getting good enough with it to start beating me and my boyfriend. Amazing system.

I think archiving it keeps all the data on your Switch but removes it as a tile on your home screen whereas deleting it gets rid of everything

I think it keeps the tile, but deletes the game data. Clicking on the tile will then prompt the game to redownload from the eShop.

Well I archived it specifically to free up room, since I was kinda done with it. And it instantly freed up like 3-4GB. Maybe it keeps the play time and save info on the console?

EDIT: Ah I just checked, archiving it removes the file but keeps the tile on your home screen so you can instantly redownload it by tapping the tile. So sorta the opposite of what you suggested haha

Yeah this exactly. It's a nice feature to have so you can keep track of your library.

Anyway, the point is Nintendo digital purchases have been tied to your account since before 2012.

I'm interested if this positive reception is just hyperbole or really here to stay.
A system is defined by games. The more games it will have, the better it will keep getting. As others said, the hardware/design is fantastic, and it's in a vacuum. I have a high end PC and Switch is getting my money for indie games. I will most likely get my FIFA roster update here too. On top of Nintendo games, which are amazing so far and look super promising for the rest of the year. All they need is a good E3 and the positivity won't fade away anytime soon.

It really does seem to be appealing to people you wouldn't expect.

A few of my friends who are very casual video game fans have already bought one, which I wouldn't have expected at all.

One of them bought one for his girlfriend's birthday because 'she thought it was so cool', and she doesn't even play games at all. When he gave it to her and she started playing BotW, he decided he needed one as well to take on the bus to work. He wasn't much of a gamer either. It's insane.

On my last trip back to Spain I needed to rent a car at the airport, got to the counter at Europcar playing MK8D with my switch and guess what? I ended up in a 10 minutes conversation with the guy at the counter about the console. They guy had heard a lot about it from friends and was planning to get one before summer. Was afraid the guy would be called by his superior but thankfully there was nobody trying to get a car at that moment so it was cool and I got my car too.

Seems like wom is working.

The concept of the system is neat but mine has been collecting dust for a while now. Also definitely feels like a first iteration of a system they will improve on in regards to design, build quality, battery (plus basically beta testing a barely functional online). Already got my share of MK on the Wii U (which in hindsight I should have just kept to play zelda on too). I don't have too much buyers remose because the popularity of the system means it's not going to get killed off like the Wii U did but I sure wish I waited right now.

Nintendo launched a very attractive piece of hardware, that's for sure. And they knew it, being so confident to launch this thing with a fast, nimble OS and just a bunch of games.

This bodes well for the future of Nintendo and all Switch owners, let's just hope it quickly translates to lots of games.

FTFY

Since 2006 almost every Nintendo console/handheld is using technology that is 1 generation (5 years) behind so its a fair question.

In the home console area, I don't feel like we got much more than a Wii U. On paper it certainly is more powerful, but the games so far aren't really outshining anything on the Wii U other than in resolution. I think Zelda looks pretty rough. You'd think they could have some anti-aliasing on the Switch version.

XenoBLADE not Xenogears

I don't mean to shit on the Vita because it was a nice piece of kit, but I really hope Switch's library is nothing remotely like it. Blech.

Personally, I'm hoping for a combination of DS, 3DS, and PSP (which I liked waaaaay more than the Vita.) I'm actually surprised I don't see more PSP fanatics around.

There is some weird nintendo nostalgia love going around atm. The same games that are on multiple consoles people overlook it but if it's on the switch then now it's appealing lol. I'm seeing this on here and from a few of my friends. I'm getting the switch as a secondary console to my ps4 though. But the ps4 will always be primary I mean it has a lot of games and exclusives and will continue to

believe it or not, Nintendo has added value to the those games by including them on the Switch and giving the owners the option of playing portable versions of the same game. It's not strange it's earned.

I must say I feel preeeettty vindicated right now for being part of a group of like ten GAFfers tops who said all through the January doom and DOA threads that, actually the use cases presented by Nintendo don't seem ridiculous at all but really something I and other people would use, and that multiplayer on the go would be its viral killer app that could make it do Wii numbers.

Okay that last bit is really premature but still.

That said, I hadn't expected word of mouth to do this complete 180, I think not even the biggest fanboy did.

But I really feel that we're in an iPad situation here. And that stationary console gaming will go the same way as stationary desktop gaming. For a niche enthusiast group. People much prefer ubiquitous solutions for gaming. Maybe the whole cost thing of mobile games is slightly overblown. It's just that they're more convenient.

I hate myself that I haven't turned on my PS4 in two months, even though it had a ridiculously good Q1 and I bought a number of those games which are now part of my unfinished backlog. But here we are.

I wish I could enjoy mine more than what I currently do. I'm having a blast with MK8D (first time playing it) and I love how snappy and seamless the transition between TV and handheld mode is, but the left joycon issue is completely souring my experience. It's currently being repaired by Nintendo, but apparently that doesn't guarantee its proper functioning so let's see.

It would also be nice if it were more than a MK8 machine (not really enjoying Zelda all that much), but the first year releases seem promising enough.

A friend of mine bought a Switch with Zelda.
His last Nintendo System was a NES!!!
He saw me playing BotW and he was so amazed that he had to get one lol

Ask me about the moon landing or the temperature at which jet fuel burns. You may be surprised at what you learn.

It's really attractive peace of hardware.

I know three people who bought it, and two never owned Wii U, and one didn't even own 3DS!

.

Even though I helped add to those gaming laptop numbers this is so wrong. Steam surveys alone verify that desktops are here to stay and after MS, Sony and 3rd parties made console gaming feel more and more like PC gaming desktop parts sales have consistently grown year over year. Desktop gaming pcs are nichey but we still haven't seen the growth rate flatten out yet so it could go from niche to uncommon during the next decade.

I think there are a ton of people with blinders on. I own a Switch with Zelda and Mario kart and i am extremely worried on how Nintendo is going to handle multiplayer on multiple switches. I imagined that it would be easy to have 6 people in a room with 6 switches and 6 copies of mario kart to just jump in a room and start playing each other.....i was wrong....very very wrong

Edit: I was an idiot and after research now i know it works how i imagined. ignore me
