"Developer Game Freak will bring Pokémon to the platform, while Nintendo’s first party titles include the previously announced Zelda game – Breath of the Wild – and
a new Mario game. All three products are scheduled to appear" within the first six months"

http://www.mcvuk.com/news/read/pok-mon-mario-and-zelda-headline-nx-dream-line-up/0170678

One of em's gonna be a holiday title for next year. I assume Mario, unless Zelda gets delayed, they have Spla2n or MK9

It could be an expansion game like Pokemon Stadium to help NX hardware with Sun/Moon owners.
As long as they don't jeopardize anything for Pokemon I'm down for anything. I love Pokemon spin offs almost as much as the main games so no complaints here.

I mean anything is possible, but BOTW looks like a mega hit, just seems overkill to not space those 2 out at least a few months. Isn't there a rumor Mario Maker is getting a port too?

Not that I'd be mad about both being at launch, heh.

Wasn't there a rumour that we will have Pokemon, Zelda and Mario all in the first 6 months.

I guess Mario and Pokemon can just be ports such as Pokken and Mario Maker ports.

It's absolutely possible given the many derivatives of Mario games that Nintendo develops internally. Could be NSMB NX, Mario Maker NX, or even a 3D Mario NX. Besides, Mario and Zelda aren't the lone holy grail at Nintendo anymore. Mario Kart and Splatoon might be bigger catalysts.

About NSMB, I believe Nintendo (Tezuka-san?) said around the time of Mario Maker's release that the next 2D Mario would be different, i.e. not NSMB. So, whatever form 2D Mario takes next, I don't expect it to be NSMB in style. For their dedicated gaming hardware, I mean. Still, a 2D Mario is possible at launch as you said. I do think though that given the somewhat lukewarm response to it last time they might wait a bit longer for it rather than position it at launch.

As to 3D Mario, and this is more in reply to the new rumor, but interestingly Miyamoto-san indicated at E3 that we'd probably see the next Mario (not clarified as 2D or 3D I don't think, but it seems he was potentially referring to 3D (though it could be a game combining both styles)), at next E3 at the earliest. Though, they could certainly move up the reveal for it, and I do imagine we'll play it next year. Perhaps they were able to get it ready for launch after all.

There will be no reveal this year. It will be in January.

If Nintendo do reveal it would disrupt their current systems sales..

I'd love to know your sources seeing as you contradict several others who are saying it's happening imminently

It's a shame Color Splash just released as Super Paper Mario 2 at NX launch would be a must buy for me (a 2d Mario that is not NSMB)

Assuming the games info might be valid, having Zelda, Mario 3d (given the comparison with 3d World and Galaxy) and a new IP at launch or close to launch would be a pretty good line-up in terms of Nintendo first party.

It's interesting. I think it's stems from two issues (relating to Twitter ITKs, rather than the media as a whole).

1) People don't like it when someone knows something they don't, and feel information may be being withheld without justification. The reaction can often slide into a "Tell me now or you don't really know anything" mindset.

2) The often deliberate dressing up of how much the person with information actually knows. This seems the biggest problem with non-media ITKs, looking to build a reputation. they hide the holes in their knowledge behind cryptic wording that'll be the first line of defence if things don't pan out.

When clarification isn't full and frank, it starts people thinking that maybe there's nothing behind the curtain at all. I'm sure Emily has insider information, but I do feel that some times her delivery leaves a little to be desired.
Number 2 could also be used to protect sources... Not just hide a lack of knowledge.

Edit: I'm assuming that last bit is part of 2.

If you could pick one Nintendo IP to see get a new game in the series for NX, which game would it be? It has to be a series that hasn't had a game for the past 5 years.

I have to say Mother 4. I've been watching some old Earthbound videos and it just made me realize how amazing and classic that game was. I haven't played Mother 3, but Earthbound is so different from other JRPGs it really should be a staple franchise for Nintendo.

An actual Metroid Prime 4.

Itoi said that the life we live now is Mother 4. I think the development hell Mother 3 went through for so long put him off game development completely. If Mother 3 had come out on the SNES, or the N64 as it was originally intended, I think we'd have Mother 4 by now.

I'd prefer a remastered EarthBound or Mother 3 with 3D graphics on NX instead.

You guys are on some wacky tobaccy if you think a non-spinoff Pokemon game is coming to the NX anywhere near launch. They're not going to announce Sun and Moon is coming to the NX less than a month before the game launches. Game Freak really marches at the beat of their own drum. They released BW months before the 3DS, and even BW2 was a DS game.

And we all saw how great the 3DS took off...

Nintendo might pull an audible and have them make the 3rd installment for NX.

Although Zelda is a huge game for launch it loses its luster a bit due to also being on Wii U

Nintendo need something big at launch that makes you want a NX. Just like Mario 64 made people want a N64 or Wii Sports that made people want a Wii.

I mean Tezuka is working on Super Mario Run. That's absolutely different. Isn't it? Maybe the new NSMB is developed for the sake of adapting those Super Mario Run players?

I think the Mario rumors are all playing off this original quote, and the fact that the team hasn't released a game since December 2014.

They should make a Pokemon sun/moon port with better graphic (better AA, fps...)

Super Paper Mario for me, I guess its different enough to not be called a typical Paper Mario game...

Diddy Kong Racing.

And why would they listen?

Doesn't Nintendo control the IP? Pokemon can only be released for something as long as Nintendo gives the okay. I thought all of this was covered in the pokemon go debacle?

That would be nice but something that isn't available on any other device. There big thing for NX should not be a port.

I don't know man; something about that demo screams "big screen gaming" to me. The whole way the game is now designed seems like it would function better on the big screen. Heck. even the sound in that demo is very off compared to the fantastic sound in previous pokemon, and nintendo, games on 3DS. After playing that demo I am a believer that an enhanced edition will happen eventually.

Just woke up to eventually open this thread.

Wtf is wrong with some of y'all. I'm a fucking Nintendo fan but I'm not crazily obsessed over an unannounced hardware. Fuck some of y'all are beginning to turn into a cult and here I was arguing against that a while ago.

Is there a particular reason you clicked on this thread as soon as you woke up? Were you expecting a direct announcement by now? What do you know?

Good morning

If there's an announcement today, it should happen in the following 3 hours.

If nothing by then, we'll have to wait till tomorrow.

Is everyone calmed down already?

There were the DKR rumors like a year or so ago. That would be cool to have another one. It feels like one those games that Nintendo would bring back.

I know Itoi is done which sucks. I wished they could take his brain/mentality and pass it on to someone younger who could make it. I would definitely take a full 3D remaster of Mother 3!

Yes, I love the MP series so much. I would take MP4 day 1.

Hmm perhaps it's better to go back to sleep and wake up on Friday? *Surely* something will be going on at that time.
Right?

I don't know if people do but you probably shouldn't expect anything.

er, I just woke up and haven't been keeping up with the thread, it just grows too fast.

what happened here? weren't nate and emily and others saying something would come over

haven't gone back to check but I think I'll spare me the cringe. I hope we can have more friendly talk here and less bashing people

I think that if Zelda is a launch title nintendo would just want to throw out some filler titles at launch and save the pokemons and Marios until summer or fall to give it some legs. I don't want "filler" to sound negative so I think at launch we might see some remaster of N64 or Gamecube games. If we do not see the next big mario until Fall 2017, a port/remaster of sunshine at launch would be pretty awesome!

No, that wasn't meant to be part of number 2.

Protecting sources is a valid reason for saying less though, you're right, but I feel that when that's of prime importance, then making sure the original statement is clear becomes vitally important too. Vague statements with clunky wording don't help.

May I suggest another topic ? I don't think there's anything more to discuss concerning the reveal event.

What's your opinion on the situation of Pikmin 4 ? When the 3DS spin-off was announced, I was pretty sure that it would just be some filler for the 3DS. But I saw some people think that what we saw was Pikmin 4, because it supposedly match timings. I don't believe it's the case, since Miyamoto specifically talked about the next installment in the classic Pikmin franchise, and the 3DS game is a completely different kind of game.
