EVERYONE OFF THE HYPE TRAIN

Seriously, though, nobody should have expected different. Nintendo consolidating their development on one system should help a ton.

1. I don't care, I have a PS4 and a PC for that.
2. I wasn't expecting otherwise.

This has been, by far, the most appealing thing about the hybrid rumors.

If they want to be a company that can create enough content to drive hardware without reliance of 3rd parties, they are almost forced to consolidate all their developer resources to one platform.Theoretically they'll be able release games at a 2X rate of any other Nintendo platform in the past

Anyone been on GAF long enough to remember the "Japan Time" meme? Is it making a comeback?

Yeah. If they can get all the games 3DS has been getting on NX, like Monster Hunter, Pokemon, Yo-kai watch, Dragon Quest, Atlus games, etc. It isn't unreasonable to think Square and others will jump aboard and support it and possibly bring FF, KH etc to it as well. If they pull that off, don't see how this thing doesn't dominate in Japan, and do much better than the GC and WiiU did elsewhere at the very least.

It's about to be noon in Japan where it is currently Wednesday.

Next Wednesday is the release of the financial results for the 2nd quarter.

At least something could happen in the next 7 days ignoring the weekend.

I don't think it's gonna happen. But isn't because it's unlikely. It's because my brain literally cannot imagine what an NX announcement would be. It can't do it.

That's true to some degree, but I bet that a few companies will dip their toe in the water to see if they can snag a few sales. I imagine Ubisoft will continue support assuming that the system is capable of having decent ports of their games and sell fairly well. EA is another beast, but I think Activision and Ubisoft will give it a fair shot, especially if the system gets traction.

I expect literally nothing from the big Western third parties that aren't Ubisoft, aside from Lego and Skylanders, and even in Ubi's case, I don't expect much of anything in the way of AAA ports.

It's nintendo's job to prove to western third party that their console is worth their time/ports/exclusives. They're not in a position where they can demand that of them yet. Install base will be a big factor, as well as knowing the demographic of the NX audience (what TYPE of game do they want to play there). Shooters don't typically do as well on nintendo as on other platforms due to demographic differences, for example. Stuff like EA's unravel game, however, might be a better fit. Not a great game (or so i hear), but at least in the right genre for the platform.

Hopefully 3rd party doesn't blindly throw half-assed ports of games that don't appeal to the nintendo fan demographic once the install base is up there.

I don't see there being any reason why Nintendo must make annocuments at 10am Japan time.
It's because they've done it before.

Anyways he might have been referring to America-not sure though.

The next available time for an announcement would be tomorrow around 8 am - 10 am Eastern.

im fine with this as long as NX has a lot of jap exclusives,
in fact, im relieved Nintendo is not chasing that way

Don't we know of one AAA port that's coming? I thought someone mentioned that a few months ago.

Bought Splatoon just like you did.

Im okay with the hybrid idea(sort of) but I cannot for the life of me imagine less than xbox one specs on the home version of the hybrid. Xbox One S with HDR, PS4 Pro, then Scorpio? So Nintendo is going to come out with a 720p machine with no HDR? Really?

I'm a huge proponent of all software appearing on one platform, but you choose your hardware.

Microsoft is doing it with console and PC. Many of us hoped Nintendo was doing that with console and hand held. One library but you choose the hardware. This one machine fits all franken-portable is the exact opposite of what I want. I also don't think the market will react well to it.

Why in the world would a handheld system have the same power as a home console? That would be very expensive with no real benefits.

This is the company that launched a console in 2006 that could only output at 480p...

They must be betting you don't know you want it yet!

Its supposedly a hybrid. A hybrid has two parts. A handheld and home benefits. As in, it better have a dock that powers that thing up. A don't know how a hybrid means a handheld with a tv cord.

They can literally announce it whenever they want. Maybe I am wrong on this, but I believe that they announced the new 3ds in the middle of the night and all of America woke up to that news.

It doesn't matter. If this thing has the same 3rd party support than the Wii U (like Emily's last twitter suggests) it will be another failure.
Nintendo being Nintendo all over again. Hype gone.

I had a dream that i had an nx. It was nintendo red coloured and looked real modern. With detachable controllers too.

Man it was cool.

Which is why the NX should have the cheaper powerful handheld, and the powerful console dock for people who wants that, but all plays the same games, and the dock adds enhancements

I had a dream a couple of days ago that Yves Guillemot was being interviewed by a Japanese guy and Yves said the NX is 2.6x more powerful than the Wii U.

176 GFLOPS x 2.6 = 458 GFLOPS (FP 32)

Of course it was just a dream. lol

Edit: Top of page...

Again...Nintendo held a media event in NYC for the holiday lineup.

Must've been short.

The PSP could be plugged into your TV using component video cables, is that a hybrid by your definition?

A half-realized one.

Making the transition between handheld and console modes simpler and allowing local multiplayer in console mode would make the NX a more suitable console stand-in than a PSP with AV cables.

This is where I am at. I feel like lots of folks are not realizing the benefits of a company like Nintendo consolidating development for one platform.

Me? If I can play all Nintendo's games in one place, I am sold. If I can choose to play those games at a higher rez on my TV? Even better. If any company can do this right, it's Nintendo right now.

Actually, when most people talk about the hybrid they are exactly referring to just a handheld with HDMI out. Nothing really special. It's an hybrid because you can play on your TV with the detached controllers.

So far, no credible rumor / source has mentioned a dock that would increase the power of the handheld, and I also think that's highly unlikely.

What is wrong with her man? It's getting annoying. One minute she's going all in on what she says and standing by it THEN she's like "oh please don't judge me on that..."?? Like are you serious? You're going to get judged on everything you report man.

And you guys still want to blindly follow these people? Leave the ship before it sinks. You're better off waiting for Nintendo.

It's gonna need to be at least as powerful as the PS5 Pro. Nintendo can't rely on gimmicks anymore. RDR3 exclusive? Would look great in a VR.
