So I just rewatched the trilogy. Never seen the Renner film. Should I?
It's not bad, I thought it was ok when I saw it (the one time) but the way it backtracks on parts of Ultimatum's ending might leave a bad taste. It'll also probably be totally ignored by the new movie.

Agreed. I wasn't a fan of the retcons or the other implications made in the movie.

the other night i
smoked a little bit and
watched the golden state warriors fight the cavs - in a commercial break i saw a tv spot for this and it looks like
they're killing nicky off...
WHAT THE FUCK. i'll be so fucking pissed off if they do that.

Yeah the initial filming pretty much confirmed that. It was bound to happen anyway.

i also asked this a million times and i still don't know for sure: is legacy even canon to the original trilogy/5?

Technically yes, but I really doubt Bourne 5 will even mention it. Legacy showed that a Bourne movie just isn't a Bourne movie without Damon.

It also has Oscar Isaac and does fuck all with him. Heck the movie probably would have been more interesting to me if Isaac had played Renner's role.

are you absolutely sure? in another bourne thread someone said that in legacy, the fax call at the end of ultimatum was interrupted. if that's true, then that's a retcon in legacy, because ultimatum ended with the faxing going through.

so if legacy is an alternate universe, that means that bourne 5's story includes the blackbriar exposure.

Yes, it is a retcon. It's generally one of the things people disliked about the movie.

There's no alternate universe. Legacy is "canon" to the series, but since it's set 12 years in the past and Cross isn't in the next movie, odds are Greengrass and Damon will just ignore it and carry on otherwise.

i see. what i was asking if it is a retcon that takes place and branches on into it own universe with an alternate storyline, or if it is something that retcons the original story.

because yeah, that is pretty unappealing.

Rented Legacy and am watching it now.

It's OK. I think the problem was the story. Renner was decent.

edit: BS retcon at the end with Pam Landy. Screw this movie.

The implication that Bourne was some lab rat that somehow managed to naturally come off his chems when he lost his memory was a huge slap in the face too.

Yeah, I HATE that implication. Not only that, but Frank Marshall was even parroting that idea during the run-up to Legacy's release. He brought up the scene in Identity when The Professor said, "Treadstone said pills.........they said go to Paris........"

Also, here's what Greengrass said in that magazine interview:

One thing we can definitely be sure of though is that there's no cross over with The Bourne Legacy.

"It's not anything to do with it at all," Greengrass added. "It was important to me that that not be part of our equation."

Oh, I didn't notice she were in this. Apparently she's playing Heather Lee. Now I'm interested who that is in terms of the plot.
