The Official Daily Show Thread with Jon Stewart

DietRob

i've been begging for over 5 years.
On that note, is it supposed to be pronounced "jif"? Because I've been saying it like in "gift" this whole time.

I don't care how it's supposed to be pronounced "Jif" is peanut butter. Pronunciation as in 'gift' is the way to go.

Technically, jif is correct simply because the people that came up with the term say that it is, but I always think gif in my head.

Grainy shit.

I wish Jon would get better at looking at his guests when he's asking them tough questions. He comes off as kind of a wimp when he looks away. But at least he asks the questions.

The guy Colbert had on last night was NOT amused by Colbert's antics at all. He looked like he wanted to kill Stephan dead. The soccer guy was none too happy either.

The part last night about Russia was incredible. Couldn't stop laughing. The name they gave Armageddon, holy hell, I was in tears.

I just caught up with this week's episodes. I've been watching the Daily Show for about 6 months now and I have to say that was the most hilarious thing I've seen so far. However, it kind of ruined the joke for the Colbert Report. It just didn't have the same impact.

- Jon Stewart Taking Summer ‘Daily Show’ Hiatus To Direct ‘Rosewater;’ John Oliver To Sub
Jon Stewart will take a 12-week hiatus from hosting Comedy Central‘s The Daily Show to make his feature directing debut this summer. Stewart has written the script, and will direct Rosewater, an adaptation of the book Then They Came For Me: A Family’s Story Of Love, Captivity And Survival. Published in 2011 by Random House, the book is Maziar Bahari’s harrowing ordeal of leaving London in June 2009 to cover Iran’s presidential elections. With a pregnant fiance left behind, the BBC journalist expected to be away for a week. Instead, he spent the next 118 days in Iran’s most notorious prison being brutally interrogated by a man he knew only by one thing: he smelled of Rosewater. Bahari wrote the book with Aimee Molloy. Scott Rudin will produce with Stewart and Gigi Pritzker. Pritzker’s OddLot Entertainment is financing the film.

Stewart will take about 12 weeks off in the summer. In his absence, Daily Show regular John Oliver will be guest host for eight weeks of fresh shows.

Should be interesting because as much as Stewart is a comedian, he still brings a semi-serious, are-you-shitting-me-they're-this-stupid ambiance to the show as host.

Oliver doesn't carry that so it remains to be seen how the show feels with him at the helm.

I got tickets to the show for April 1st... Since it's April Fools Day, it should be a pretty funny episode to be at!

Can't wait.

New Colbert was amazing. The entire show was great but the James Franco interview was some next-level stuff. When Franco tried to call him out on his Tolkien knowledge and got soundly dunked I lost it. I love Stephen.

Having watched every single episode of the Daily Show for more than a decade now, I'm looking forward to seeing what John Oliver brings to it. A little variety is always nice!

Someone on another forum suggested that Jon should come on the show as a guest to pimp his movie. PLEASE OH GOD YES.

It's always great when Colbert straight up smokes the guest.

I remember when he was interviewing some guy and misquoted the bible so Colbert corrects him by properly quoting the passage. The guy says Colbert must have gone to Sunday school and without missing a beat, Colbert fires back "I teach Sunday school motherfucker"

I wish Colbert took over both shows for the time. The Daily Show with Stephen Colbert followed by The Colbert Report.

John Oliver doesn't really have a personality as a correspondant. He could play the John Stewart straight man role fine. Even Colbert as a Daily Show correspondant wasn't Colbert from the Colbert Report. I think Jason Jones is the only correspondant with an actual personality that doesn't change everyday depending on the script for the bit they're doing.
