The Official Grand Theft Auto IV thread: The World Is Yours

I'm still not sure why people are claiming this game is ugly. The OXM podcast described it as Gears of War's beauty with Oblivion's scale but with the drawbacks of neither. Which means it's no corridor based and it doesn't have loading and frequent slowdown.

It's not official official yet. I'm guessing we'll get PR about it next week or something. Probably best to wait until then in case it turns out to have been an elaborate rumour.

Oh sorry :) I thought it was made official yet. Anyway, I can't believe the wait is almost over, after this weekend (which will go by fast as always for me) it's only one more week. ONE more freaking week. I've asked this before in the other thread, but what are you guys gonna do first when you have GTAIV? I think I'm gonna do some exploring and experience how the atmosphere is in Liberty City. After that I'm gonna go on a massive rampage, which makes the Cloverfield monster look like a Teletubbie, wooooooot.

Opie and Anthony Show

Lazlow is on the show today, and after the current commercial break he will be playing audio clips of the main Opie and Anthony Show regulars, including Opie, Anthony, Jimmy, Than and Bob Kelly.

He'll also be playing, for the first time anywhere, commercials that he produced.

**********************************

They also made mention of the fact that Jimmy plays
the part of a porn shop retailer, who actually gives missions to Niko. So, his character actually interacts with Niko directly; apparantly Opie and Anthony play peds with multiple lines.

GTAIV is an ugly, ugly game. Somehow gamers have this double standard for GTA that doesn't apply to any other franchise. It doesn't matter if the game looks awful, has pop-in, frame-dips, or whatever, people won't complain about it because it's made by Rockstar, you can have sex with hookers and kill cops. Somehow that makes all the problems that people would normally point out in any other franchise magically go away?

Very strange double standard and it makes gamers look like complete idiots sometime.

Anyhow, I'm hoping that the game at least lives up to GTAIII.

I totally agree. Rockstar is great with environments but when it comes to character models, they look ass. If their models looked as good as their illustration work. It would be dope.

hes talking about how people dont nitpick GTA as much as other games. other games like assassins creed got murdered for the technical hiccups that i bet GTA has a lot in common with (framerate, glitches, etc). i hope rockstar proves me wrong with this though.

First of all, many people have already mentioned their concerns about framerate and glitches but no one here has played it so we don't really know how the game will perform. Secondly, the GTA franchise has never really been graphically impressive, especially on the platform most people have played it on, the PS2, but the series has proven that it doesn't need incredible graphics to be an incredible game. If the game gets a bit of a pass, I think it's because they've earned it.

Finally, all that being said, from everything I've seen, the game looks gorgeous to me. The only open world game that really compares graphically is Assassin's Creed, which is also very beautiful.

hell, a week before COD4 came out, people were examining pictures of wall textures. that kind of bullshit isnt as common with GTA games.

CoD4 in motion is breathtaking at times. I've not seen anything out of GTA4 that even comes close to OMG next gen. Doesn't matter though, GTA4 is about the story, characters and gameplay. There series has never been known for it's graphics.

Oh god I hope they break the street date next week.

And cut short all of the feverish tabloid moralising from people who have never played any video game, let alone part of the series ?

People who call The Beatles "overrated" and claim its popularity is spurred by fans simply "spoodging" over it because everyone else does, are ignorant to the big picture of how The Beatles actually changed things.

They appealed to that generation of music listener above all else, they were universally beloved and highly recognized by a very critical professional press and fan base, and so to blatantly point out the flaws is ignorant of the full picture and ignorant of the innovation and attention to small detail each album had.

I myself will be in line for the White Album.

It's also about being able to show people (including folks who don't ordinarily care about games) why Euphoria is awesome, instead of trying and failing hard to explain it.

I think the graphics are as good as they could be given the amount shit thats going on, and that's all I care about.

I bought a $2.5k PC 3 months before the 360 came out, and I bought a 360 for $400 dollars that fall. When I go to play Crysis, the graphics look far worse than gta4 on the 360. Is that what you wanted?

Has the 360 optional install been confirmed/denied yet?

I do not believe it has yet. Maybe Cowboy can comment on that. Although, I think he maybe avoiding commenting in this thread for a bit, not sure.

What the fuck? There's NO way SA looks like on screen. I'm actually replaying the game now and it looks ten times better than the crap you just put up.

It looked pretty fugly when I played it on the Xbox a couple of days ago.

GTA4's lighting and style make it far from an ugly game, then you take into account the scope of the game and- oh wait just wants attention, nm

Well congratulations! You got yourself caught!

I put in several hours of GTA:SA on 360(BC) a few weeks back and something does seem a bit off in those screens. Though the game does appear a bit dated in some areas, I was mostly impressed by how well it does hold up visually. Just panning the camera around to soak in the sights and there is a lot to absorb.

Opie and Anthony are in awe of the graphics. Lazlow mentioned that
the radio stations will do weather reports right before it rains.

He also mentions that the tickers in time square will have news reports of things you do in the game

btw wasn't the commercial supposed to be up on Marketplace? I checked today and it was nowhere to be found

So I tried to register at the Social Club. I type in all my information, hit the submit button, and I get a message that says, "Sorry. You may not register with this site. Please see our Privacy Policy." I looked over the policy and it provides not a clue as to why I'm being rejected. (Edit: I may have forgotten to enter my birthdate. Perhaps that was the problem? If so, lame.)

Fucking great. Thanks loads, Rockstar. Christ, I'm furious right now.

Maybe it is the age requirement. I think you have to enter your date of birth first.

Damn. I don't suppose there's anything I can do now that the site thinks I'm underage...?

The page doesn't render correctly in FireFox. You'll have to use another browser if you can't access the parts that you need.

I think someone mentioned deleting your cookies should work. I didn't have the problem so I don't know for sure.

Sorry if it's been asked before, but other than the two magazine reviews we've seen, when can we expect the online reviews to start pouring in? (I assume there's some sort of review embargo in place that will be lifted soon).

So according to Take Two they've seen several of the Un-released reviews already and every single one is 10/10.

For the Social Club, do I have to use my XBL email account or am I allowed to input my gamer tag later?

Sorry if it's been answered, I'm going into blackout mode.

Really? Well I am not shocked GTA games have had very good reviews.

I cannot wait to see the random low score review from an unknown website to pop up. They'll probably give the game a low score to have people come to their website.

I'm having the same problem. I didn't put my birthdate since it wasn't *'d.

Hey Himuro, would it be a good idea to mention the special PS3/GTAIV bundle in the OP? I can imagine that not everyone knows about this yet. And it's a good offer.

What bundle? Is the rumor for Europe of North America? Any info would be appreciated since I planning on buying a PS3 as soon as a good deal crops up.

I didn't want to get rid of all of them, so I deleted the only one I could find that shared the name of the website. No such luck. Fortunately, when I tried registering on my secondary computer, it did work! Problem solved, I think. I just need to activate the account in the confirmation email...

Okay, done. I've successfully logged in. Yay. I guess the easiest solution for anyone who runs into the same issue would be to register with a different computer, unless clearing your cookies (and cache?) is more convenient.

Yeah, they really need to make it clear that entering a birthdate is in fact mandatory.
