The Official Grand Theft Auto IV thread: The World Is Yours

I have very modest expectations for the DLC.

My main issue is the story element. If they can actually do cutscenes and tell a decent little mini-story I'm down. If it's more just stuff like Fire Truck missions or stuff like that I'll pass.

It would be the biggest megaton in the history megatons. The simultaneous ownage across the board would be unprecedented.

I don't know why no one thought of the possiblity of Niko having a series of missions revisiting an old setting.

VICE CITY IN FUCKING 2009?!?

That Would Win.

So Fucking Hard.

What if it was, say, a serious of missions revisiting, say, San Andreas? And then Vice City?

That might be...kinda cool.

It'd be like that one bit in San Andreas but, you know, expanded.

I would probably not survive the anticipation.

Hail to the KING baby
They also wouldn't necessarily have to redo all of San Andreas; they could just do one part. It still seems unlikely, but full-fledged expansions usually do involve new areas (that's often the core of the expansion) so I don't see it as being that outlandish.

Oh well, before thinking about "Niko Bellic visits San Andreas" i have to clear the game, and it's not gonna be easy =(

It all makes sense now (if this is the true DLC). Easily advertised (on megaton levels), episodic but wildly appealing.

Certainly the best case scenario for MS.

Exactly. Like the bit in GTA:SA but, you know, some walking around room.

:D

Honestly, I just can't wait to see even a block of San Andreas (and then Vice City?!?) with this new engine.

The problem is there would be some continuity issues. I think the Vice City people really want is like a 80's retro version of vice city. Like the original. Not really a 2008 version of Miami.

Yeah.
Look, there was this rumor [or maybe it was said by a Microsoft PR] that the 50 Million $ DLC will be 2 or 3 DLC packages.

Does this remind you of something?
Maybe the 3 isles of GTA: San Andreas? :p

I WANT TO BELIEVE.

I have no problem with a 2008 version of Miami.

Spring Break missions? Non-stop Reggaeton?

Same with San Andreas. Hollywood big wigs want you to take out the head of the GAS (Guild Of Acclaimed Screenwriters).

The possibilities are endless.

I honestly wouldn't care if they just came out and said they are going to introduce time travel. After all, I still watch Lost.

As usual NeoGaf is setting itself up for HUGE disappointment.

Why would Rockstar re-create San Andreas with the new engine, and not want to sell it to PS3? The 50 million was paid to insure that the PS3 would never see the extended content. If Rockstar can sell 500 million copies of GTAIV, why in the world would they create a whole new game restricted to only 360 owners with internet access?

You guys are so silly sometimes.

If they do anything, they will add an island (Staten?) to Libery City. I can't imagine them doing anything bigger then that.

keep those expectations down a notch.

You guys expecting or even hoping for another city as the DLC are dreamin. absolutely fucking dreaming.

I love how that dude on the previous page saw the screenshot of the airplane ticket was all like: "Oh its probably the exclusive dlc - you got to SA".. I mean:lol it was so casual too:lol :lol

The built up area of Las Venturas is probably smaller than the Broker/Dukes island in 4.

Sticking to that layout, spruce up the geometry/textures and have a little bit of desert available but the main routes out all blocked due to terrorist alerts.

Guild Of Acclaimed Young Screenwriters maybe. :lol

If they don't put new Radio stations in the DLC i think it can fit anyway.
Just, you know, a recreation of SA using textures/models already present on the DVD, and a bunch of new missions.

That would be fun.

Why would Studio Liverpool make Wipeout HD exclusive to the PS3? Don't they know how many 360 users there are who love games?

Seriously, do you know how exclusives work? The whole point is that (when done correctly) they're supposed to be MASSIVELY appealing.

That's why they exist.

I live in S.Florida.

80s Miami >>>>>>>>>>>>>> Current Miami. South Beach Its basically just become a European and celebrity beach resort. The rest of the city is under constant contruction, and not that exciting unless you speak Espanol. I think a new London game would be much more appropriate with the new engine.

I could use some help on last mission:

How the fuck am I meant to get under Jacobs helicopter when chasing Dimitri? I've seriously tried about 20 times.. you know how annoying it is getting to the chase part 20 times only to fuck up again? The boat just WILL NOT make it in time.

There is NO way that the DLC will be an entire new area. It's just too big of a development cost to have only as DLC. The content will most likely be just another "Letter" on the map with some new missions, maybe a few outfits, and weapons. The folks that think their will be a whole new island/area are dreaming. If anything it's pointing at San Andreas for the sequel.

“… You’ll get a lot of content for your money, which I think is really important. You know, there are too many stories at the moment of people having the feeling that they’re not getting enough for their money in terms of downloadable content, and it’s easy for publishers to get away with,” - Sam Houser.

I seriously doubt "a lot of content for your money" equals a handful of new mission hubs, a new jacket, and a 3rd pistol/shotgun/smg/assault rifle.

They've already said they intend to experiment with the DLC to see if it's viable to serve as a single disc platform for all the GTA content they make this generation. Not to mention numerous games writers that have visited and interviewed at Rockstar and have come away with the impression that entire new areas are being released via DLC.

I would think if San Andreas DLC was released that PS3 owners will get a piece of that, too. But I expect the 360 content to be significant.

Yeah, but this GTA4, pratically the biggest franchise in gaming at the moment. Which is why they went Mulit-console in the first place.

also, why would they use the same map from San Andreas? Did they use the same map from GTAIII?

I like how a dose of reality is causing a few of you to get upset. Im not trying to troll hear, Im just being REALISTIC.

I own the 360 version by the way. So don't get any stupid ideas.

Sections of San Andreas is believable though.

If they are going to create a whole new city location, Why would they only do small sections? Listen to yourself.

A new area of Liberty City makes much more sense, if still unrealistic.

San Andreas will be the sequel.

I tend to have nothing BUT stupid ideas, but no I don't think you're exhibiting bias or anything.

On the flip-side, this mentality means that the storied PS3 exclusive R* game Sony secured will be a lackluster effort.

I don't think either will be true.

Now that I saw where the image came from, I think it's a lot more than just random set dressing. It's a reward for beating the story.

I definitely think that the next GTA disc based sequel could absolutely be all of San Andreas, but the episodic content could be prologues for those adventures.

I still think it's easily a possibility and no way outside the realm of possibility.

The whole point of MS securing this exclusivity is because of its massive appeal. The appeal you cited as the very reason it wouldn't be exclusive is the very reason MS spent $50 to ensure that it is.

The idea of an entire next gen San andreas game being the DLC doesnt make sense. If it was released for both PS3 and Xbox360 and people had to pay $50 for it, then maybe, but even thats unlikely. It just isnt going to happen.

Too similar aesthetically. A gritty urban environment? Check. Give me Vice City any day.... turquoise waters.... blue skies.... sandy beaches.... and all the blow and I can rail in a year.

mmmmmm Vice City.

BTW you guys talking up this dlc city shit are fucking bonkers. Not that I dont want it but theres no way well get it.

Why didn't CJ get a whole Liberty City to tool around in?

I don't understand why you still believe it's unrealistic that this content will be substantial when every statement from MS and R* has stated the opposite.

Just because it's exclusive? Again, that is whole the point of securing exclusivity, and having to spend an enormous amount of money to do so.

There is still a big bad guy jumping around in Liberty City. I'm pretty sure any extended DLC will deal with him first.

It could easily be missions in a section of San Andreas and cost $30.

Do people forget how much money MS spent to secure this exclusivity?

Hell it could be something as "small" as Niko turning over a Casino or another location in the SA area. Similar to CJ's mission to Liberty City.

Again, no chance of that being DLC, but a new vice city game in the next few years? Possibly. Hopefully with Niko
