No because it wouldn't work for Sei and Build outside of the heavy use of Plot Armor.

If we take the suit and put it in the battle royal scenario with real people and not mindless Death Drones then things become much harrier.

In fact Build Fighters does address this very thing, just not with Build Strike. In the Battle Royal we see Build Strike getting its ass kicked by Epyon, it wasn't really able to stop it but because of Epyon being Melee only it was simple to shoot it down the moment it lost all it's support.

But again, Domon did well in the Battle Royale as I recall. Even after it got hijacked by the Devil Gundam. And as I recall there's another episode where the Dynames gets taken down even though it has a sniper rifle, so I don't think a gun is a make or break thing.

Besides, it's not like the God Gundam doesn't have projectiles. Sekiha Tenkoken and all that, but more importantly, I think, is that having a gun goes against the entire style of the Shining and God. That's not what they're about. Imagine if the Maxter had a sword. It's not their fighting style. If you want a Gundam that uses guns, get something that isn't primarily built with hand-to-hand combat in mind.

EDIT: But I mean, I guess if they can make it cool, whatever. Just doesn't really fit the suit's motif or purpose.

It's not a question of skill, I'll be the first to admit that Domon could hold his own against Amuro, Heero, Kira, and Kamille.

It's a question of balancing a suits weaknesses, adding a beam rifle does balance out the weakness that Shining and God both have, same goes with them adding a Twin Buster rifle to Epyon.

Hey guys, building now. Should I put stickers on before or after top coating? If before, do I need to tape them off when I top coat?

Edit: Asking because they're shiny foil stickers

Edit 2: It's coming along well. I lost the back helmet sticker though. I had it in there and was trying to reposition it with my spudger and I guess I put too much force on it and it flew out somewhere. Couldn't find it. That's not that big of a deal though. Everything else is pretty decent. After seeing the thing in person, though, I think I'm going to order a gray marker for the panel lining on the white parts so it might be a while before it's completely done.

Yeah, most of the redesigns and repaired suits looked pretty sharp. Even the new grunts were cool. Only one I didn't care for was the Harute, because all those add-ons kind of ruin the svelte look the suit had going for it.

Gundam 00 is another reason why the Black History is so dumb. Making
contact with alien life was the whole point of 00, but 10,000 years later where are the aliens as foreshadowed in the movie?

I finished ZZ Gundam again, guys. Loved the ending. I'd take time to post more detailed impressions, but I still have to watch CCA tonight. Hope that, like Zeta, I enjoy CCA more the second time around, though nothing will absolve it from dropping the audience in so late.

I really love that final shot of Kamille and Fa at the end of ZZ. Kamille's help to Judau from Dublin onward, including in his final fight against Haman, really cements how much I'd kill to see the two of them team up in full force.

I must also now concede that they do make comment that Char is not dead in ZZ. Sayla's conversation with Bright in the second to last episode is basically Tomino doing what he can to sow the seeds of CCA. We'll see how that affects my opinion of the film, though.

The real tragedy is how underused Sayla is in the series. Especially since her conversation with Bright is excellent and really makes her sound like an active person who shouldn't be sidelined as much as she was. (Also because she and Amuro shoulda never done broked up.)

Couple of questions I'm left with, though:

-Where DID Amuro get off to during ZZ? Hayato just makes it sound like he ran away.
-Why do people follow Glemy at all? Haman is the one holding Mineva, and if that's the case, how can these people oppose her so violently? Especially since no one knows until the very end that the Mineva Zabi they see is not the real princess.
-Where did the real Mineva go? They say she's been MIA since the Gryps conflict, but the last we see of Haman in Zeta is her speaking to Mineva. Was the switch made without her knowing? Or did she herself orchestrate the switch?

As a final confession, I-I kinda liked the whole Haman-Judau thing. Sure, there's that horrible age disparity there, but I mean, compared to Glemy "I have a room full of boxed naked prepubescent girls" Judau's "Hell yes hot older women love me even as they want to kill me" is a lot less creepy. The two characters actually have a lot of good back and forth going on, and it's surprising the sheer number of times that Judau's sympathy for her almost let's her conquer his mind.

I'm also pretty impressed by Glemy. I mean his character starts out a complete loser, and hands down the dorkiest, goofiest dweeb of the already nerdy miniboss squad that Mashmyre, Chara, and Glemy make up, but by the end he's like little Paptimus Jr. minus all of Paptimus' game with women.

But anyway, on to CCA!

Glemy's death really messes with me to this day. I don't really give a shit about Glemy one way or another. But something about how he bit it really bothers me.

I don't know if this is canon or not, but according to some side mangas, he's Gihren's illegitimate son. The Toto family, a noble family loyal to House Zabi, took him in as a favor to Gihren. That might explain why some would follow him.

I think part of the reason could be that Glemy seems almost happy when it happens, when all anybody can feel is how much he needs to be socked in the jaw.

In the meantime, half hour into CCA. Animation is gorgeous, better than I remember, really, but maaaaaaaan Quess is so bad.

Also, if Glemy IS Ghiren's son it would explain a lot about the scene where he first shows a subordinate Puru Two. In that scene the guy is all "Why should I follow you?" and Glemy's all "You know why." It could just be a reference to "look I made an army of cyber newtypes" but it could also be "I am a Zabi."

Dub or sub?

She's not really a good character either way, but god damn is her dub voice horrible. A shame because the rest of the cast is freaking excellent. Michael Kopsa and Brad Swaile owned that shit.

I'm going sub this time around. First time was dub.

It's just kind of crazy how she doesn't recognize Amuro at all when they meet, but as soon as she hears his name it's like "Oh this is why I'm here!" until she meets Char and then BOOM. Like, ten minutes do not pass between Quess finding out he's Amuro and freaking out on Chan about her being between them. If Quess wasn't good at piloting MSes I'd take her as a massive stab at fangirls. As she is, though, she's like some bad fan fic character.

Speaking of fanboy metaphors, I'm pretty sure Angelo from Unicorn is supposed to represent Gundam fanboys that refuse to let go of Char. You know, the type that walked out of the theaters when Unicorn
confirmed Char and Amuro were killed in action.

Finished CCA. Impressions are largely unchanged. I mean, the actual plot that focuses on Char and Amuro is okay, but 1) I can't really forgive the utter lack of a beginning, and I kinda think the ending is rushed as flip, too. 2) I feel both those points wouldn't be as they are if the film had dropped Quess entirely and actually spent all of its time focusing on Char and Amuro, since we're all here to see Char and Amuro and not goddamn Quess, and 3) I still think Char's character is completely off-base from where it was in Zeta. Maybe if Char had actually been present for ZZ, where the Federation's corruption is laid entirely bare, in addition to the AEUG's, and maybe if his fall into complete distrust of mankind had occurred onscreen all of this would be easier to buy.

That said, animation was nice, and the Char-Amuro dynamic was okay, when one overlooked the rest of that. The battle atop Axis between the Sazabi and the Nu Gundam is still one of the best fights in the entire UC run. Possibly the best duel up to that point in the series.

Also Beyond the Time is a jam, man. Love that song.

And I'd like to point out that Axis is a fucking insane piece of real estate. Haman crashes that thing into the Gate of Zeddan and it's A-Okay. Glemy then rams it into Core-3 and again, no biggie. That place doesn't go down until Amuro tastes the rainbow all over it.

I bet Quess wasn't even a Newtype, and her suit was on autopilot the whole time, and Char had just crafted the whole thing as a giant prank for his own amusement.

I forgot to mention above that I feel like there's a weird lack of music in CCA. Like, in Z and ZZ there's always something playing, but there doesn't feel to be that much in CCA.

A lot of CCAs music is incidental. I still found it to be extremely well done though.

Speaking of Ccas soundtrack, they just reissued it. Its like 3 discs long. First disc is the original ost. Two and three are more tracks.

I'll never ever ever understand how anyone could think CCA's ending was ambiguous towards Char and Amuro's fate.

Oh, didn't know there were such thread. I just want to ask for those Canadians who imported gunpla. Do we get hit by customs tax if we import toys or do we just pay for the applicable GST/PST on it? I'm thinking of importing at HLJ but I'm worried that I might end up paying a lot because of the other fees I need to pay.

Those SDs look pretty good, and I think the details make them pop out a bit more.

I'll never ever ever understand how anyone could think CCA's ending was ambiguous towards Char and Amuro's fate.

No body, no death. Never assume someone's dead in fiction until they show you the body.
That scene in Unicorn didn't just confirm the deaths, it crushed their hopes.

I feel that it looks too detailed. The regular SD kits are cuter.

They're like super poseable high quality Gundam Converges, which I'm totally cool with. Here's Converge Freedom for comparison.

But starting with SF though... :( Destiny looks boss though, kinda like the metal build.

They died and/or left. Just like most of the humans living in space.

I think the original plan for ZZ had Glemy being a clone of Gihren.

Thought i'd watch Age before G-Reco starts and it's pretty boring. Really not a fan of Level-5 and Flit and Emily in particular are really annoying protags. The Alt mode for the UE suits is stupid and so far pointless.

Hmm not sure if I'll make through all 49 episodes.

I think she was supposed to be important for Hathaway's development, but since he didn't kill her in the movie I don't really know why she's there. I guess Tomino wanted to show how fickle women are (Tomino's belief not mine).

Beyond The Time is the only piece of music that matters anyhow.

I got hit with customs, pretty badly actually. I'm located in the GTA, and ordered about $80 worth of stuff from HLJ. On top of thirty-something dollars shipping, when the FedEx guy showed up at my door, they asked for $22 in "brokerage" fees, which, after doing some research on the internet, I realized is a completely random amount (you may not even get charged at all) but you're more likely to get hit with it the bigger your order is. Additionally, from reading around the internet, it seems like EMS shipping is not immune to this either. There's no predictability for this stuff, you might get fucked, you might not.

I would factor in these costs and check Amazon.ca first. I got my first Gunpla from there, and it was cheaper than importing. On average, gunpla is super overpriced, I just got lucky but I think its worth a shot.

If I order again, I think I'm going with Hobbywave, which you should consider. The flat rate shipping + I think they even ship from within-Canada might end up saving you some money. The private warehouse HLJ offers is a huge advantage though.

Oh, I see. So, it's a hit or miss when dealing with this. Damn, I thought toys are duty free and I just need to pay for sales tax. How about SAL? Did you heard anything good on that shipping option?

Yeah, I saw that site. I read that it has a warehouse in Canada and you wouldn't worry for any import taxes since it will ship within Canada. The only I problem I have with that store is all/most the gunpla I want (MG Strike Freedom Full Burst and MG Destiny Gundam Full Blast) are out of stock. Bummer :/

Oh, okay.

I'm not sure that is what Tomino had in mind for the character at all.

Quess is there to show the dangers of being over-emotional, which is a re-occuring trend throughout Tomino's UC works (on both sides of the gender fence as well, not just women (take Katz or Jerid for example). Tomino is very careful to point out that people should embrace their emotions (after all, Newtypes are ALL about feeling, right?), but they shouldn't be ruled by them. A person should acknowledge how they feel, but keep themselves in check by staying logical. If you notice, the key to surviving UC Gundam is to maintain a cool head.

Furthermore, Quess is also there to demonstrate the dangers of hero worship. The people she tries to cling to in the story are both deeply flawed troubled men. Neither Amuro nor Char really care for her, though Char isn't above pretending to like her so he could manipulate her, leading to her death. It's a statement on the nature of "heroes" and "leadership" in general.

I haven't seen CCA in like 10 years, so I probably shouldn't have given a guess on Quess as a character. Honestly, I've been watching Xabungle and the amount of times Rag and Elchi bounce from being interested in Jiron to hanging off another guy is pretty high. I guess that was on my mind. Quess basically went to Char because Amuro wouldn't give her the time of day, right? Yeah, that does show a lot of emotional thinking.
