Just wondering what you guys think of Gundam: Origin movies that are coming out next year?

Trailer: Deals with Char and Sayla: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3Ev1026Nz3I

Also any chance of Hathaway's Flash becoming an animated OVA or movie?

A couple of fan made intros for it:

and

That's right. FUCK Hathaway. I think it'll become a manga like Beltorchika Children.

HGUC Banshee is a beast. Really impressed with this kit for a HG. My first HG in like 10 years.

So I'm all caught up with Gundam-related materials for the Week. Here are my thoughts on the latest issues/episodes of each thing. There be spoilers ahead

Gundam the Origin Vol 7: The Battle of Loum:
I hold Gundam the Origin to be the best version of the One Year War Story, and this volume continues that belief. Pretty much the only depiction of the Battle of Loum we've seen, outside of the brief scene in Igloo. I'm a sucker for military strategy and stuff, so I loved all the materials about fleet movements and what not. I also particularly enjoyed the scene at the beginning where Yuki's colony gets gassed.

One of the most horrifying moments for me was the scene where Garma is sent in to mop up remnants inside of Loum. He believes he's leading some heroic charge, but he's really just slaughtering people.

I also found it pretty creepy that it was Char who took out the Aznables. Not only did he basically get their son killed, but he also finished them off. The death of Teabolo during the seige of their mansion was also a highlight for me. How did Artesia get off of Texas anyway? I wonder if they'll have a moment later on when Sayla or Char reflect on their time at this colony.

The flashback volumes have been amazing, but I think Vol. 7 is the last one. Time to go back to the main story, starting with Odessa.

Beltorchika's Children Chapter 4
Bright's beard continues to be a standout. There was a line in there that I found interesting though. When Mirai and the kids were at the ticket counter, the attendant says "You took your father's name?" What does that mean? Are Mirai and Bright separated? I guess that'd kind of make sense, but that thought is depressing.

There is another line where Amuro and Bright discuss how Char could have gotten the nuclear rockets to propel 5th Luna towards earth. Bright suggests that it's possible forces within the Federation government may have given the rockets to Char. Interesting. I wonder what the relation there is. It probably won't be explored though.

G Reko 5
Wonderful episode. What was the deal with Aida and the bridge chick though? Pretty weird lol. That battle was fantastic. Probably one of the best in a Tomino show. Luin is the Char clone though, huh? That's fine. I liked him a lot in the first two episodes. He seems like a cool dude. Klim is definitely my favorite character. His archetype is usually a "villain" type character in these shows, so it's neat seeing it played as a protagonist. I hope he doesn't get Tomino'd. At least not for a while. A shame this is only going to be 25 epsiodes:

Gundam Build Fighters Try 3
Pretty decent episode. Sazaki's sister was a fun character but the fight against the Tri Fighters was kind of weak imho. Still, there is some pretty good gags, like R35 and "In the middle of a practice session, everyone forgot about Ral". Such a tease :(

Oh man... I got chills just watching Char's Zaku in action.

Without spoiling anything, what should I expect from "The Origin"? Is it similar to the way they did "A New Translation" storywise? I'm assuming that all the deaths and major battles will be there as in the original.

It's a bigger re-imagining than New Translation. All the major plot points are in place, but the pacing is significantly altered in spots. Characterizations are expanded and even changed a bit. Mecha are all reimagined with the whole technical history of the OYW being shifted. GunTank and GunCannon for instance are older MS in The Origin with the RX-78 being developed from them instead of along side them. There's also a significant flashback that deals with Char's past as well as the beginnings of the OYW. Sadly, the new OVAs are only adapting these flashbacks right now. Hope they adapt the rest as The Origin is significantly better than the original.

New version of the original PG Unicorn poster. Looking fantastic. Need a full image in a static pose to see the real proportions, but posability seems there. Added mechanical details are enough to make it look more premium, but not too much as to distract from the all white Unicorn mode. Super excited for this. Cannot wait to see how the lighting kit works.

I'm thinking of buying a couple of kits. Anyone recommend a site for the US of A?

Amazon is the best US based site if they have the kit you want and you can get free shopping. Only other sites I know based in the US are Gundamstoreandmore, Gundam Planet, GGInfinite and Hobby Wave. GSAM's selection has been lacking for some time, Gundamplanet's pricing has been going up lately it seems and the other two are flat rate shipping which might be more of a curse than a blessing depending on how much you buy. Even with shipping, I tend to find importers like AmiAmi and HLJ to be better price wise.

ZZ Gundam 20

Wow, when Wong showed up I was thinking "If he tries to pull that shit with Judau he's gonna get his ass kicked." And then it happened. Amazing.

So I'm going to Paris in about 2 weeks time and was wondering if there were any stores that sold Gunpla there. Found a site called kamehashop.fr and this was on their front page...

Travesty!

That was the backup plan if the fans didn't like Unicorn. He saved one series, why not another?

I finished Zeta Gundam yesterday. Wow.
That ending left me absolutely devastated. Katz was what? 12? Henken and Emma were supposed to get married. The fortune-telling tea said so! Hey at least Kamille might finally live a normal life. Lol no he goes fucking crazy. Fa may as well have blown her head off.
Is ZZ worth watching? I already went straight to Char's Counterattack
(fuck Hathaway)
and I'm planning on watching Unicorn next.

Fuck Katz. Watch ZZ.

ZZ directly continues zs story, but is tonaly different. I enjoyed ZZ quite a bit, so much so that I once went on a drunken rant about how great it was to my friends.

But it is different.

Also Kat's was like 15 I think

MOBILE SUIT GUNDAM

Watching the Mobile Suit Gundam dub for the first time since 2001. I think 9/11 must have really put me out of the mood for watching this show as its better than I thought. A couple of lines are a bit rushed to try and meet some lip synching and some of the actors aren't great but its nowhere near as bad as I remember it.

Amuro is a piece of shit for the first twenty episodes or so and pretty much deserves all the beatdowns he gets. Bright is a NEEEERRRRDDD. Char is the reason why the space nazis got retconned into being far less bad than the Federation in later UC stuff, he's such a bad ass.

The show starts to drag a bit when they really start pressing the Newtype angle. At first Amuro is just a pretty good pilot and the Gundam's real strength is the learning computer, so he's good at it because he's good with computers. Then suddenly its all Newtype this and that, Amuro is God King of pilots, blah blah blah. I think I have four episodes left. Then who knows what I'll watch. It's almost the time of year to rewatch 0080.

Oh, one more thing. The US custom intro to MSG is at least 3x better than the Japanese one.

What kind of monster skips ZZ, which has some redeeming qualities and goes straight for CCA?

Just kidding, CCA has some redeeming qualities. It kills off Amuro and Char, it looks cool, and it's thankfully short.

ZZ is awesome, you are missing a lot if you skip it.

Quess
Hathaway
1 cool fight
QUESS
Out of nowhere changes to Char's character
HATHAWAY

fittingly shit conclusion to the most overrated pair in Gundam

Hilarious is definitely a word for it.
Those two needed to go into therapy. Move the fuck on already, my god. Oddly enough while they were chilling in Zeta they barely talked about it. While fighting on a meteor about to slam into the earth it becomes the main topic. Another funny bit was even Char didn't give a shit about Quess. Why Ginnei and Hathaway did I have no clue. Fuck Quess and Hathaway. Bright should've smacked that boy into a fucking coma. Shit Amuro got the shit beat out of him, even Kamille. Those two are more Bright's kids than Hathaway.

I thought Amuro and Char's obsession with Lalah and each other was just part of their character flaw and it's what led to their downfall. I wish they had gone more into how Char changed so much from Zeta though. The timeskip was too big. There was barely an explanation. Quess was a real fucking idiot too. Holy shit this girl had to have some kind of mental disorder. No normal functioning person behaves that way. Crazy bitch.

EDIT: Hathaway was a dipshit too. Katz I forgave because he never fucked things up too badly and he was at times useful. There's no forgiving Hathaway though. Fuck that kid.

Which means Hathaway was a psychotic for liking her. We know Mirai was a good mother so I'm not blaming her. I personally think Amuro and Char had bigger things going on in their lives to the point where they could've and should've moved away from the Lalah stuff. In all honesty I think Char could've tried to further his connection with Sayla plus he had a wife whose name really escapes me right now. The dude had a life, he should've just lived it. Amuro had some connection problems. Probably screamed out Lalah's name in bed causing Beltorchika to dump him.

Personally I think the only drag in msg is after ramba real is taken out until jaburo. Beginning is awesome. Garma stuff is awesome. Real stuff is awesome. Then you have odessa and its okay but not as good as the stuff was before. After that, once the crew returns to space, the show becomes too good.

People hate Char's Counterattack? Amuro and Char's rivalry was so intense.

I think it was too ambitious of a story to tell in just one movie. Char's plan doesn't seem reasonable and I don't feel they did a good job making the characters empathetic because they behave so erratically.. Char comes off as not only unreasonably fanatical and obsessive, but worst of all, as incompetent. ..in my opinion, anyway. I would rather have seen this story told as a long-form narrative with a more coherent plot and ending. Plus, we would get more Sazabi and Nu!
