I think that's how most people think of when they hear about Victory. But it's really just a really really poorly written show. It is violent and crazy, but to the degree that it just feels pointless; characters are killed off before you even learn their names.
How's X?

Yeah, I've only gotten up to episode 20 or so, but that pretty much sums up my experience with it lol. It's also very confusing to follow at times.

X was fun, it sadly had a bit of a monster of the week syndrome going for it in the middle (though so did 0079 TV... why the movies are better). Show also had a rushed ending since they cut the series short when it got moved to a shitty time slot and it's ratings tanked.

X was the worst performing of Gundam series, but it wasn't that bad really and many fans actually enjoyed it. Far worse Gundam TV out there from Tomino himself.

Victory and Turn A are basically the same thing.

Wtf? No. No, they're about as far from each as other possible, and I'm not talking about just in terms of tone.

HUGELY disappointing. The premise of the series is cool, but the pacing is way way off (slow as hell for the first 20+ episodes then moves at a lightning pace for the remainder because it was cancelled); characters aren't all that interesting; Frost brothers are extremely stupid villains; mech designs mainly suck; animation is shitty, which leads for shitty fights 100% of the time (say what you will about Tomino's skills as a writer, but that guy can direct the hell out of giant robots pummeling each other).

I know most people wouldn't rank it as lowly as I do, but personally I think it's the worst Gundam series outside of SEED/Destiny. Just felt totally empty to me.

You are a major bummer, sir.

Why I said they were polar opposites. At the core they are the same quality wise. Same show written by two completely different Tomino mind sets (happy vs kill em all Tomino). Heck they both love to toss characters at you who are totally bat shit insane who serve no real purpose other than to die or disappear in that episode.

Turn A is the most overhyped thing in Gundam, it's shitty Tomino writing just without all the mecha fighting porn.

X is one of the only Gundam series to have a feel of its very own. It has some production problems but it's ultimately a pretty fun show with a pretty likeable cast. Garroad and Tifa are fantastic together and Garroad is like the best normal pilot in all of Gundam.

This is how I feel about X. I feel that X is a very fun adventure show that doesn't take itself as serious as the other Gundam shows.

NYCC has come and gone, and Bandai/Sunrise had nothing new to say about Gundam AGE, or 00 on Blu-ray, or even when the Turn A DVDs are coming out.

They seriously have no idea what to do with this property outside Japan. Fuck 'em.

Yep. At least they're still releasing Unicorn on Blu-ray.

It could always be worse.

Well, they are handling distribution in the US, I don't know that I'd give them full credit for releasing it :p I wish it were December already so the thing would ship and be in my hands.

All I want is a great Gundam game one day.

So I'm not hating AGE as much as I thought I would. It's not that bad so far, though kind of slow.

What do you want them to do? They have been putting out stuff for years now and it's never sold well outside of Wing. Without a prime TV slot either to broadcast, it will never get a chance and Bandai has no control over that anymore, no channel is going to give a Gundam show a chance on a good time slot.

It's surprising that they didn't mention the Turn A release though, but like it really matters in the end, it's a toss away quick cash in release obviously.

Speaking of which, anyone watch AGE episode 2 yet?

Even though I couldn't watch more than 5 minutes of ep1, I tried watching ep2 yesterday on their Youtube channel. I made it through almost half of the episode, before skipping ahead to see if anything interesting happens later. Nope. Still really dislike it. It's not even like LOLBAD, but rather the entire premise is just so uninteresting to me. It's generic, and there's nothing new here for a longtime Gundam fan like me outside of OMG ALIENS, and I already fucking suffered through that in the Gundam 00 movie. :(

I really don't think I'll be watching anymore.

I watched episode 2. It was pretty slow, but not really terrible. I guess the thing I find somewhat pleasant is that since it's skewed younger, it doesn't pretend that some of the concepts in it aren't childish and stupid like some other gundam shows tend to do.

00 was pretty good for a movie about pointy missile thingamabob going voooom all over the screen... yeah. Oh yeah I almost forgot it had Gundams too!

I disagree with that too. For a theatrical feature, the animation was lackluster, and the effects animation in particular was pretty meh for a big mecha anime franchise.

Did it have more budget/staff/etc. than Unicorn?

shadyspace said:
There were fucking aliens in the 00 movie?

Yes, and they were made worse by being completely faceless entities. Just a bunch of pointy objects....

Movie basically is just tons of fights against pointy alien missile spam.

When we're talking about a skill based industry like animation, it's less about just how much money you have or how many people you have on a project, but rather about who you have working on the project. Unicorn has great animators working on it. Gundam 00 mostly didn't.

Also, the actual design for Gundam AGE has grown on me. It looked awful in lineart, but it looks pretty good in animation and in model kit form. It is basically another RX-78-2 rehash but the angles and structure does help separate it. Though I still think the limb attachments look stupid as hell; I guess I'll wait until it shows up in the show to see. Oh yeah, the enemy designs look pretty good too.

To me, as an animator, I think it had more to do with the scheduling than anything. It just looked incredibly rushed. I think as far as animation goes, the ideas were there and the boarding was probably good, they just didn't have the time to do it right.

Oh come on, you know
they're not aliens. The show has hinted a lot at them at the UE being human.

Oh is that true? I honestly don't know sorry. Like I said, I haven't really watched much of the show because it really doesn't appeal to me. I honestly tried. 5mins of ep1 and 15mins of ep2 didn't really give me an impression that they're not aliens, but I'll take your word for it! :(

The UE destroy their own downed unit in the first episode, preventing the EFF from checking it out. And we've now got mysterious Newtype girl that Flit picks up who clearly knows something about the UE.

Plus, Bebpo and Himuro and have developed crazy theories on the Captain of the Diva being AGE's "Char."

Maybe we're wrong, who knows.

I might pick up the series if it ever gets interesting. But so far I really can't stand watching it, since it's exactly what I feared it would be. It doesn't help that I dislike the designs of the UE to begin with. Gundams should not be fighting digimons! >_<

I think you'll probably start to see them look more traditional. Like this Baqto:

To each their own then. I don't mind them so much. I agree that they look stupid in their robo-doggie modes, but I kind of like their mobile suit modes.
