Someone has some unrealistically high standards...what shows are you watching that all the series are mediocre to bad?

Gundam?

0079 is probably the only one I would say was any real quality despite bumps with the original series filler episdes and it's final episode production problems, but since then the TV series quality has always been nothing special. Though I think the movies did 0079 in a much better form than the tv series and is a masterpiece. Best Gundam has always been the OVAs. All Gundam TV series suffer from so many problems, but I always see them as fun and mecha porn, not actual quality works. Tomino especially has worked on alot of cool universes with also his non Gundam work, but the story telling and characters always suffer bipolar disorders.

I can kind of understand this. I think the shows are solid and entertaining, but not quite the stand outs of anime. Outside of the 1st one, they aren't anything revolutionary.

I guess I would say Gundam is like Law and Order of anime. Long running and somewhat quality, but not the highpoint of the medium.

And Holy crap at Age. I wonder what this means for Gundam.

Here's what it means for Gundam:

Gundam Unicorn DVD+BD sales figures:
Vol 1 - 183,726
Vol 2 - 183,315
Vol 3 - 176,311
Vol 4 - 176,831 (still selling)

You would think after this they would just make a damn UC series as it shows there are still people out there who like the more realistic (unicorn....realistic...hahahaha) and grown up military Gundam.

Someone said OO was supposed to be UC origin story, maybe they should've stuck with that instead of going stupid power-leveling in S2.

Well I mean what about Gundam on tv? Is it going to be UC Ova's from here on out?

lol, no. TV Gundam will always exist. When it's really bad it goes away for 3-4 years while they think about rebooting it. That could happen after AGE, but Gundam is still pretty popular right now so I don't think so. I think AGE ratings will go up anyhow, as Gen 2 is more relateable to what people want and Gen 3 looks like it could possibly be a UC gundam style show.

You know what my favorite part of AGE is?

ONE GUNDAM.

I'm so sick of Gundam teams. And villains having Gundams.

You get a Gundam! And you get a Gundam! Everyone gets a Gundam!!

I'm sure I've just jinxed the series. Bring on the onslaught of Gundams.

Well I finnished Gundam 00 TV. Well you know what? It's pretty good all the way through.

I think since they have Seed HD running. I'll start my rewatch of that. I also start back up Age since people say Gen 2 may be good. Can I skip some episodes of Gen 1, like most of the colony stuff and just begin on episode 10?

Yeah, 9 or 10. Even those aren't *great* but they're better. The last couple eps of Gen 1 are exciting at least, so much so that I kinda wished that they hadn't jumped to Gen 2 already.

Either Origin or G-Reko could end up being a series, and those are both UC (though G-Reko is far in the future).

Watch the last three or four episodes of Generation One. You need to see
Flit start on the path to revenge-fuled insanity.

Gotta sell those toys and model kits. It's all about merchandising!

One gundam is ok as long as it gets upgrades along the way and the supporting/enemy mechs who aren't gundams are cool looking mechs anyhow (think the enemies in Gundam OO pre-thrones S1).

Age has the upgrade part down, but the support units and enemies still mainly look lame. Needs better mech designs for those guys.

I think shows like Turn A and Gundam X did the limited # of Gundams thing pretty well.

The importance/significance of the Gundam is severely diminished when everyone has one. Really nice to see AGE going back to the 0079 roots in that aspect.

So I just finished Zeta...

Um...well...that was certainly something. I'm just not sure how I feel about the whole series. Very unsatisfying ending, and I never quite got a lot of the characters motivations. I've heard the series is a bit polarizing, and having watched it now, I agree. Don't know if I liked it or hated it.

What was up with Jerid's LLTP-style "Kamille, you're my..." line?

On to ZZ...if I can find it now that Megaupload's gone. :0

Level 5 and Hino = BUSINESS FAILURES

Gundam AGE = LOL BOMBA FAILURE

duckroll is ROFLMAO

First week sales for Gundam AGE Vol1 Blu-ray = 1,991

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

/me bows

Well god damn. Granted I can't stand to watch AGE because I freaking hate the art, but still I expected it to at least beat Wing/X.

This has always been me as well. Aside from a few OVA's I've never found any Gundam to be better then meh/alright. In general most things that Wing or even X gets hammered for I find to be wrong with the whle franchise.

Granted some are worse then others but overall I think most suffer from the very same problems.

Gundam on tv should be okay but they might wait a while longer before they bring out another one .
Still Gundam AGE seem to be a huge failure in all aspects i don't know why they thought Hino was good idea in the first place .

Up until recently, Level5 had proven to have a really high success rate in terms of creating media mix franchises targeting young kids. I don't think it was that surprising that Bandai thought they had a huge hit on their hands.

I guess your talking about Inazuma Eleven , Little Battlers and Professor Layton .
Well Bandai really wanted the younger kids and it came back to bite them in the ass.
To me there was no need to do that when Gundam tv shows were doing okay or maybe it because i don't trust Hino to write anything good.

Time to get Fukuda out of the mental ward and get to work on SEED 3

Well if i remember right was his wife not sick or something like that .

I can see a theatrical movie. Not a series though.

Wasn't there originally going to be a movie to follow up SEED Destiny?

Maybe not, but I did read that somewhere a while back.

Then again can't say I'm a SEED fan, like some of the suits but overall I'm kind've a leave it guy for that one.

Just hope Unicorn keeps doing well and would love to hear Bandai's thoughts on how all the Endless Waltz stuff is going and when we are going to hear anything more about Origin.

I hear something about that also but then again i also heard his wife was sick which why it did not happen .
Don't know how true any of this is , it's has been long time since then .
Don't care about the SEED series without Kira or Lacus .

There was. They even showed a trailer. One of the people involved with the project ended up getting cancer or something though and after that they switched their focus to 00.

So, I've watched the first two episode of ZZ and so far, I really like it. Maybe I'm just more into the "lighter" Gundams, because I've found Turn A, G, and ZZ far more entertaining than Zeta and Wing, with UC79 probably leaning more towards the "lighter" side, at least by my judgment. Zeta and Wing took themselves way too seriously.

Mashymre Cello is pretty swag, too.

If you like light Gundam like Turn A, ZZ will be your thing. Also check out X for a little more action-heavy/serious but still light and fun Gundam.

I think there's room in Gundam for both types: dark, violent war emo crying & fun happy light kickass gundam. What there's not room for is kiddy Gundam as evidenced by AGE bombing! Thank god. If AGE was a huge success we would be stuck watching Gundam targeted at 7 year olds for the next 10 years.

Careful on the second half of ZZ.

ZZ gets alot of hate, and while alot of times you can see it be directed at one or two things, to me at least it's really because ZZ is two shows slammed together.

You will have moments that are in the vain of G/Turn/X but then all of a sudden you are slammed with shit straight out of the darker parts of Zeta only for it to shift back.

Well this has always been my thing of it. Granted I like ZZ more then most it seems. That and I just love the ZZ Gundam way more then Zeta or RX 78-2 before it.

ZZ doesn't really get too dark. It has a few messed up situations and the last 13eps kick in SERIOUS WAR GUNDAM, but I wouldn't call it a dark show. Mainly because Judeau is always a good lead and Haman is always great.

Plus ZZ gave us Puru:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tJChDGcLmoA

BEST FANSERVICE SCENE EVER

I would say that if it they didn't have the whole running theme of Adults=bad then Judeau would likely be my favorite Gundam lead of all time.

As it stands he probably is in all the cross over stuff. Really got a kick how they used him in DWG, and I always like whenever they decide to play up the Judeau and Kamile relationship in extra stuff even though I don't like Kamile.

Yeah, I've heard X is pretty fun...definitely will check it out once I finish G, since I'm watching that alongside the UC.

Yeah, I noticed that in Episode 1 (well, 2 technically since Ep. 1 is a recap) when you have the goofy fruit throwing scene and then...uh...other bridge guy suddenly dies, complete with the Zeta Death theme. And his death is just so corny since he somehow gets knocked on the head by a beam sword without being sliced in half.

Thank God it wasn't Torres though, he's awesome.

I'd also like to say "Anime Ja Nai" is perhaps the best opening imo, at least among the UC shows, and does a great job with hitting off the children vs. adults motif, since part of the song involves adults not believing in the future and claiming it's just fantasy. Too bad I've noticed a lot of rather dense American fans thinking the opening implies that it's not an anime, but a cartoon since it's not as dark as Zeta. >.>

Gundam Age 18

Finally wrapping up the school arc and onto the military and the action sequences were great, as for the rest well I found it stupid
how the MP just barged in the middle of the ceremony to arrest Zeheart when they could have just waited for the graduation to finish.
Another thing is that I'm glad they decided to lay everything in the open for Zeheart and Asem instead of making the shocking revelation later on, but then again they are definitely going for the two best friends fighting in war routine.

Gundam Age 19

How Woolf got his groove back? Wat? I mean seriously its a good thing they explained why
Woolf couldn't take out the squad leader but Asem just pulled it off with no sweat.
Oh and a spoiled brat/loser, maybe no longer so much of a brat, is finally making a come back.lol

The 2nd ED of AGE is really good.

So I just watched this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wOq-Tf3onMQ&feature=related

The first 30 sec. makes the story seem sooo awesome! Are you guys sure this show sucks?
Gen 2 has promise but its still up in the air how the show develops from here on out, Gen 1 really dragged down in the middle but improved a bit near the end although not really that high of an improvement. =/

edit: Correct me if I'm wrong but iirc Fukuda's wife already died like years ago, so I bet there goes any hope of a Seed movie.

Really? I know she had been fighting brain cancer for several years now, but I never heard she died.

That's sad to hear.

But going off the end of Destiny, I would like to see where a story could go with a (hopefully) fixed Shinn teaming up with Athrun and Kira
and Lacus
, so I hope we get something down the road.

Anyone remember these two? When I saw their designs it was love at first sight, especially Hygogg, who I first saw in the old PSX game Gundam Battle assualt 2.
Too bad they did nothing in the show =(

Anyways, just wanted to show them off in two threads =p

Gundam Age 20

So the last time you fought this guy with a variant suit you lost,
now you have this new suit in which you have no fucking idea about its arsenal and strength piloted by the same guy that handed your ass and yet you got the nerve to cut off your commanding officer and fight this suit alone.
Oh ffs Asem its not like you never received any military training just a few episodes ago to pull this shit. As much as I enjoyed the fight, for some reason what Asem did really bugged me. Blah Blah Decil Blah Blah just die a cheap already or die by Flit's hands or whatever. =/

edit:eek:ops. thanks donkey. ^^;;

When you're young, you need to go at full throttle, bro.

And you mean episode 20. :p

Also it looks like in 21
AGE 1 & AGE 2 fight each other. Time for daddy lessons!
