When did you first come to know about halo ?

What is your most memorable moment in campaign of both Halo and Halo2 ?

Some Mac-nerd gushed all over me when they showed it at a Macworld expo, or something similar. Of course it was RTS-esque back then.

Most memorable? Sticky-ing my friend on his heel and watching him fly as I got sworded by some Elites. Good times.

And post counts = prizes? Official Halo 3 Thread FTW. m0dus rocks.

Better start weaning yourself off BXR and double shots then. It'll make the transition easier.

I was just fucking with him. He's legit. And yeah, he's pretty fucking good.

It's all those lame ass MLGers that are screwed. Know any? ;)

I can't pull off double shots thus I hate it when people use them against me. And I think I'll do pretty well since I easily got to level 47 in Rumble Pit during the Beta. :lol

When do they plan on having bungie.net updated for Halo 3? Or was it already updated when they changed the site design awhile ago. I check it out myself but work blocks bungie.net.

The first time I played Halo was back in 2001 when the Xbox first came out. I was only nine years old at the time, when I first got to play Halo at a friends house, and I FELL IN LOVE! I had to have that game, so later that year on Christmas I got my Xbox with a copy of Halo! Ever since I have become a huge gaming nerd, and I owe it all to Halo.

My most memorable moment of playing Halo was about two years ago when a friend and I were going back through Halo 1 on Legendary in one-sitting. We reached The Maw and we made our way to the Warthogs, and he hopped in the gunner and I drove.

That shit was so fucking awesome.

Yeah, I have a 'UK' 360 (I'm from Ireland), so this will probably be my first port of call. Already recommended to me by an English friend.

Message shows as "Our stats system is currently offline for maintanence. Please try again later." when you try to look at Halo 3 stats for a player.

I'm hoping they do their usual and get it to me a day early... such joy would be had that day.

finally, a place to have deep philosophically debates about Halo 3.

I cannot believe Halo 3 is almost upon us.

When did you first come to know about halo ?

What is your most memorable moment in campaign of both Halo and Halo2 ?

I was living in Seattle, got an email that Microsoft was working on a new console and was looking for play testers. I signed up and was invited to play Halo 1 in about April, about 7 months before Halo 1 was released.

I played level 2 where you first crash on Halo, through to a bit past the light bridge section.

Then I played Silent Cartographer.

Then I waited for 7 months.

it wasnt difficult at all. i was a 49 or 50 in the beta because the rankings were pretty screwed up; for example, you could level up like 5 ranks just by winning one game.

Around 400.

I played as much as I possibly could with a full-time job. I also took the first 3 days of the Beta off from work.

What can I say? I really LOVE Halo. Hell, launch night I'm having a LAN party at my house with over 10 Halo buddies coming. I'll be videotaping so maybe you guys will see some YouTube action.

Damn, I should have been playing with you because the most I ever ranked up was 2 levels at a time. And it pretty much only happened in Rumble Pit.

Around the Xbox launch actually. FPS were never my thing so I had ignored Halo up to that point. A few days after the launch, my friends and I rented the system with what was the supposedly best games for it. Halo was by far the most impressive thing on the system.

Most memorable moment? That's hard to choose. I'm probably split between the first sense of exploration and wonder on the Halo level and the numerous vehicule battles on the latter snow stages.

It was probably a pre-millennium PC Gamer, with that little shot with the ugly Master Chief and the minigun and a warthog. If I recall, what really seized my attention was the mention of dynamic clouds. As in, the clouds would move across the sky, and cast shadows on the ground. Dynamically. My teenage self felt privileged to live in an age of such wonders.

I'll be updating tonight around 10pm pacific time, adding every 'tag up until then to the main lists and organizing them into timezones. I'll update every day, maybe every other day, as needed.

urk or whoever, I still play Halo 2 when I have people to play with, so send me a friend request/invite if you're ever one short before 3 is out. I'm pretty average (never went past level 30 Team Slayer). Gamertag is same as username.

Halo 3 has a new ranking system. It's far easier to rank up than it was in Halo 2. I hit 49 in Rumble Pit and no, I didn't spend every waking hour playing. Not even close, actually.

I learned about Halo after learning about the Xbox (way before release)...which I was excited for because of Dead or Alive.

The old FPS games I have played previously: Doom (one or two stages) Wolfenstein (more of this but not much) and Quake 3 Arena on Dreamcast (before Quake I pretty much hated FPS games).

Two weeks before the Xbox came out I was able to buy DoA3 and Halo (which I knew would be something special...just had that feeling)...they proudly were displayed on my entertainment center in college. The same Entertainment center that housed every system from the Atari 2600 -> Playstation 2...all hooked up and available on 2 seperate TV's.

People asked what is Xbox? What is DoA? What is Halo? ...my response check back when it comes out.

The day came and people gathered...people were floored. Halo became the most played game of any system eclipsing the previous title: Super Mario Bros...

Weeks and months passed the game only got better...and soon walking on campus I could heal the familiar ethereal Halo music coming from the dorms...it was good.

To top it all off my brother who had been a gamer who would only pick up the sticks for some Street Fighter every once and again...had heard the buzz and bought an Xbox for Halo...it was legend. :D

Sorry for rambling Halo kicks ass :)

I'm long time bungie fan, back when I played Marathon and Pathways on my Macs. I followed halo from the cortana letters to "BLAM!" it's codename at the time. Halo's annoucement was a huge vindication of what Bungie was capable of, and what I was telling my PC friends at the time.

Back in those days, Halo was so poorly defined, we knew it was an action game, but some of the screenshots suggested a thousand different things, laser guided missles from the laser on the pistol was popular, some kind of communication system based in in game hand gestures was another. The game at that time had screen shots suggesting cover/stealth systems even.

Flash foward to 2000, I'm pretty ticked about bungie being bought out. When they announce Mac/PC halo at a later date with map editor I am less angry. I decide to give this big black box a try. E3 2001 is really disapointing, first of all, because I'm posting at IGN, second of all because Halo has a terrible E3. Running on unfinished hardware the game chugs, prognosis from the media is bad.

I finally get the box on my birthday, shortly after the launch. After managing to mostly avoid spoilers, I had heard about a flood in the game or something or other, I dove in, for great justice. Two early moments stand out, having one friend bark out orders to me and another friend playing co-op. Then, back at college, playing a 3 vs 4 Beaver creak CTF match that went for 2.5 amazing hours. We pulled off the man down win thanks to my 50-10 stonewall defense.

So halo, FUCK YEA. I just need to figure out if I want to get a dedicated internet connection basically for halo online (where I live has a connection, but Xbox's aren't allowed on the network)

I first learned about it in an EGM magazine. I remember the article saying it was worth getting an Xbox just to play Halo.

My most memorable moment was playing The Silent Cartographer level for the first time. No other game were like it at the time.

I thought they made the ranking system in the Beta similar to the Crackdown setup so you'd rank up a lot faster?

I'll add this to the OP, but there's a big two-part interview with Bungie's interface designer here:

Evil Otto: I really love the curvature and the holographic projection nature of the Halo 3 HUD. There were some visibility issues on snowbound in the Beta. I’ve addressed those a bit but there will probably still be people with poorly calibrated TVs that may still have issues. I had a few ideas that didn’t quite make it into the game. Not because they weren’t really cool, but because they ultimately interfered with gameplay or because they were so useful they became a crutch, changing gameplay into something less fun. I did speak about one Idea that flat out didn’t work in my developer article at Adobe: the dual thumbstick keyboard.
Cool. That was literally my last remaining issue I had with the Beta that I hadn't seen Bungie comment on fixing.

Karg said:

No. The system is actually different. With Halo 2, Bungie was using a completely independent system that they developed. In Halo 3, they're using a modified TrueSkill system.

Obvious question: If clan support comes with the expected dashboard update, will there be a GAF clan and will it be run as well as the Resistance one?

I was LTTP with Resistance, but Halo's a day 1 pickup. Lets get a crew going.

Posting before I read the whole thread (and I'll be bummed if it's already here):

I actually approve of this snippet from the second part:

Yaters: Can you please make a playlist available for matchmaking that requires player to be over 30 years old? It would give me a) a chance to win and b) keep me from having to go to Wikipedia to look up what appear to be insults.

Evil Otto: Lol. We’d jokingly talked about making a “Leper Colony” hopper where we send all the modders, people with lots of negative feedback and such. Their whole hellish experience would be to only be able to play in this purgatory against people just like them. Who knows, maybe someday…

Actually, we are using an independent system that we developed that works in conjunction with TrueSkill. It's a blend of systems that should be way better than Halo 2's.

I swear I heard the term "modified TrueSkill" at some point in May. Thanks for clearing that up, though.

Goodness. So will I be put up and destroyed within seconds of spawning after playing a few hours, just because I'm a higher level than my skill suggests?

Hey, just stopping by to say Hi from Indiannapolis!
Great job on the thread Ghaleon, I think it maybe the best thread a game has ever seen on here, and reviews and more screens haven't even poured in yet.

Anyways, I'm off to get face-painted straight black and gold for the Saints Colts game! Go SAINTS, who dat!!!
believe!

(I'll be dressed in a military themed saints outfit, complete with black berret and aviators. Look for me on tv, I'll be in a pack of 4 rowdy saints fans).

First came across Halo in EDGE, then purchased an Xbox on release with Halo.

Halo: The Silent Cartographer was still the standout moment for me.

Halo2: The Scarab battle was pretty sweet for the first time.

Well, you still had to perform well to rank up. I think it's going to be very good at matching players of equal skill.

I was a late bloomer with Halo. When the Xbox first launched way back in 2001, I didn't know nor care about too much about it actually. I didn't get my hands on it until about early 2003, when I went over to a buddies house and played a demo. (the demo only had the level "Silent Cartographer") I instantly fell in love with it, and the next week I picked up an Xbox and Halo: CE.
