hey thanks for the dictionary link, LC.

i want to promote one on my favorite freebies on the store, Stanza.

it's an incredible, feature-full book reader, but the big draw for this is that the online library is built in to the program. want to download crime and punishment or don quixote? it's in the program, waiting to be downloaded. such an awesome reader.

OMG, that is insane.

I'm gonna go grab Stanza right now. Kind of criminal that there are ebooks you can pay .99 cents for on the store (e.g., Crime and Punishment).

The scary thing is, I've already got 1.1 gigs worth of apps and games and I only bought the 8 gig model. :(

Guess I don't really need to use this thing as an MP3 player. :lol

I also downloaded the Stanza program for my Mac that allows me to convert files on my computer into versions that are readable on Stanza for iPhone. Phenomenal program!

How do you set a bookmark in Stanza?

Like, I don't want to have to skip to the chapter then flip to that page each time I open the program.

LCfiner
Thanks for the impression
there is a video for the game now
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=srCj4kQ91k4

and they say new update will available soon fro the game
1.01 Bug Fixes : (Uploaded But Pending Apple Approval)
-Sound Issues that interrupted gameplay
-Sphere spin stopped working due to specific touch action
-When resuming, spawning rate glitched

If any one have Tap Tap Revenge dont change your profile picture because there

everytime i reload a book, it starts me where i left off. does it lose your place when you restart?

i have a dream......that one day i'll have something like pandora radio on my PS3. is this dream crazy? or is there an easy way to get it going on my tv?

Oh, that's cool. I haven't actually tried using it yet (like really sitting down and reading like I normally would).

So does it do the same as you load from book to book as well or does it only keep its place in 1 book as you exit?

Wow. Thanks for the heads up. This app is awesome. There are a few books in here that I wanted to read and never got around to it.

I've only got two books loaded, but it's keeping place in both of them independently.

btw, sorry for repeatedly bringing it up, but moonlight mahjong has totally occupied my commuting time lately, and i think it deserves all the pimping it can get.

so here it is (even though video is not mine) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kx1P7iEifMk

there's a free lite version now. regardles of whether you're a mahjong veteran or you just have a taste for solitaire-type puzzlers, this game deserves your attention.

ok, that looks SLICK

has anyone taken the plunge on this one yet? how is it?

OK, i took the plunge. bought this AND space out from binarysquare.

Spinblox is very nice. The gameplay is a mix of panel de pon, bejeweled and lumines (but with no musical element to it before you get too excited :). you slide colored blocks left, right, up and down to form same color lines of 3 or longer. you can also make crosses and other shapes combining the same colors.

The lumines aspect is in how the block are cleared. They don't disappear automatically but only when another timed wave of blocks comes in from the top. this allows you to set up combo chains in advance (if you're good - I'm not. I can never set up complex chains in these types of puzzle games)

Advanced mode has powerup (or powerdown) blocks that need to be eliminated along with the 3 block patterns. These can clear all blocks of the same color or extend your time. It adds some spice to the formula but you can play without it and still enjoy the mechanics.

It's good. It's real good. And for 5 bucks, you can't go wrong if you're into these kinds of puzzle games.

And the polish on the game is fantastic. the custom pixel graphics along the bottom of the screen; the selection of wallpapers that float by in the background. And the help manual is very nicely done. it's a multi page book that you swipe across. it's in full color with small pics and a little bit of teh funny.

And the binarysquare fanfare music that chimes in when you open the app is classic 8 bit nostalgia.

Space Out is simpler to grasp as it's basically Space Invaders where you use a breakout ball to destroy the ships instead of a missile. It controls well (there's space below the paddle for you to place your finger on the screen, so you can still see your paddle while moving - nice) and I never felt like the touch controls were unresponsive.

What makes this unique and potentially worth the 5 bucks over free alternatives is the retro art style and polish: The slick interlaced screen and classic graphics, the cool C64 sound effects and voice synth. It's also nice the way the edges of the screen flash white when the ball hits them.

I would recommend both to the GAF crowd but Spinblox is the standout game between the two.

I also took the plunge and pretty much agree what LCfiner said. I'd say Spinblox is worth it (at least for me). Everything just looks so nice. Not as good as lumines but quite good for the price.

I like the idea of Space Invaders and Arknoid. The game works well (at least from what i've played). But when it comes down to it, its just another break out type game.

ok tried radius and did not like! Help and menu were nice but the game is just by very fun to play. It got frantic at times, but not interesting, exciting, or particularly pleasing to look at. Sorry for not being that constructive with my criticism.

On a seperate note, I did like Circulate. There is a prologue version in the store and I think it's great and worth a try. It's kinds like puzzle bobble but with a twist ;)

The menu reminds me a bit of warioware twisted. Anything that reminds me of warioware twisted is good in my books.

is there a guaranteed way to convert ANY ebook you can buy of a website into a stanza file? if so, i'll start buying ebooks.

Love the graphics style on Spinblox, is that out on the UK store, haven't seen it yet?

And M0dus - do something. =)

Stanza has a sharing mode that lets you sync a book you have open in the desktop version with the iPhone/iPod version. Check their website for more details.

Stanza will be a lifesaver. I get a lot of books to review for my blog, and if I can load a PDF version onto my Touch for consumption at work, I'll be a happy man, indeed.

Stanza is amazing indeed.

Beatmaker's latest update erased all the kits and loops and projects I had stored previously on my iPhone. I'm a little pissed but the new version seems better.

That's the price of the app store I guess.

Just bought a handful of apps that had been recommended here. So glad we have this thread.

If anyone's looking for a crossword game, 2 Across is pretty solid. Great interface, downloadable puzzles from the major papers, multiple non-obtrusive hint functions. Even lets you pencil mark multiple letters in the same square, like a Sudoku puzzle. Definitely worth the $6.

I wish iTunes let you list apps according to reviewer ratings. As I've searched through the "popular" apps, a lot of them have crummy ratings. Picked up a few that were recommended here, though. Thanks everyone.

Stay away from Chopper.
Any particular reason? It looks pretty cool and has a good reviewer rating. I was thinking of buying it but I'd like to know why you recommend staying away.

Eh, well, I wouldn't place too much stock in iTunes reviews, half of them are "omg I really want this game but it's too expensive!" and the other half "how do I play this on my computar?".

Stanza rocks! I read the first chapter of The Adventures of Tom Sawyer last night before bed.

How do you take a screenshot again?

Downloading it now, thanks.

Edit: damn, that was fast. It's tiny!

So since you have the game -- is it possible to play the game while still listening to music from the iPod? Or are you stuck with just sound effects while playing?
