The Official iPhone/iPod Touch Gaming Thread

Hey, 7 Cities - my favorite tower defense game on the iPhone - is on sale for $2.99. It's more like Pixeljunk Monsters than Desktop Tower Defense though so you can't create your own paths but the level of depth in the tower upgrade system more than makes up for it.

I think I have reached Nirvana.
X-Plane, tChess pro, iShoot and Blue Attack are all I ever need to play nowadays.

Blue Attack rules, my 5 yo is becoming a fan of shooters because of that, may need to introduce him to geometry wars later. :D

I know I'm late, but I remember someone asking how you can view powerpoints on your iPhone/iPod touch. This is not the best method or anything, but it a way. You can send yourself a powerpoint document to your email address that you access on your iPhone. Access the email account using your iPhone and download the file by clicking on the attachment. Now, even when you disconnect from the internet, you can go back to your email and view the powerpoint. It's not the best solution by any means, but it works.

I was just playing around with it and I was surprised I could open my .ppt attachment.

Thanks, man. That should be easier than lugging out the previous lecture slides next semester...

I've been loving WordJong after picking it up based on 1UP Yours. A good couple of days of scores as well: 108 yesterday and 120 today, when I scored 35 points - my best single-word score yet - for 'maladroit' :D

Definitely worth buying if you like word games.

:lol But what did you score on today's puzzle?

/high five

Working my way up from the beginning of the month. Does everybody received a randomly generated puzzle for the day or is it a pre-programmed puzzle for that day?

I just bought Blue Attack! after reading some reviews. The game is great. It looks a bit like geometry wars and has you going through space attacking the red aliens. In between stages you can upgrade your ship with the resources you've collected so it's a little RPG-ish as well.

The game feels a bit like Geometry Wars meets Meteos.

...meets flOw. Really excellent title.

Just saw a PR saying that Pangea Software's stuff is on sale till Sunday (Feb 1)

Sale Includes Award Winning Titles Engimo and Cro-Mag Rally, as well as Billy Frontier, Bugdom 2, Antimatter and Nanosaur 2: Hatchling

It's a pre-programmed puzzle for the day. Confirmed this with a friend who also bought it. Everyone has the same puzzle for that day, so you can compare scores.

Like most of you, I'm interested in picking up Wordjong based off the 1UY recommendation but I have a quick question: do you have to download previous days puzzles individually or do they all come pre-installed when you get it? I can only connect to my wifi at home and I'd mainly be playing it at work so if I have to reconnect every time I want a new puzzle it loses some of it's appeal. I know the daily update would of course require access to wifi. Thanks.

I don't believe it does, but I honestly don't know.

My high score so far seems to be January 3rd, where I scored a 126. I need to do yesterdays and todays puzzles.

I don't think that it downloads anything, I think they are all built in.

Ah. Well in that case I had my best day for the Jan 27 puzzle. :D

175. I used two bombs.

Word List
Desultory (33)
Migraines (35)
Meteorite (35)
Peddling (24)
Loadings (24)
Whet (7)
Curse (5)
Seek (6)
Jet (6)

I know it gets progressively more difficult as you move across the week but one of the funny things is that sometimes you'll just find a day where everything seems to click for you. That was by far my best day by over 40 points.

Yeah I had to edit the post because my original post made it seem like I crank out that score everyday. :lol

Except for the monday or tuesday days I'm generally barely over and I've yet to complete a Sunday and have only completed one saturday so far. This one just seemed to crank for some reason though.

We could do a daily thing where we post our score and wordlist for the people who have it. Too bad it doesn't store your world list for prior days but if we do it on a daily basis where it shows your word list after you complete the puzzle it should work. Or we could do an official thread where we don't turn this one into a WordJung bump fest. ;)

Everyone buy Lights Off and Monospace. A couple of great puzzle games, and only two bucks each!

Pretty cool. Blue Defense is getting a major update

Blog: Blue Defense! 2.0 is Coming...

Posted (09/01/27 - 1810h)

I'm just finishing off my submission to the App store for Blue Defense 2.0!

I've put a lot more work into it, and there's a lot more "game" in there now.

I've put enough work into it to justify not only a "2.0" version number, but maybe a price increase... but don't worry! It'll stay at $0.99 for at least the first week it's out, as a promotion. :)

"When will it come out?" you might ask.

I would answer "early next week, if Apple approves the update."

I don't like being unsure of these things, but that's the way the process works, so I guess we're all stuck with it.

Here's a preview of what's new in this version:
-Sound & Music
-Level Select mode
-Quick Start mode
-Global high scores

I'm excited to hear what you think of it, when it comes out!

Now no reason not to own Blue Defense and Blue Attack.

A WordJong thread could be worth it if enough people are playing it. I'd certainly like to be able to compare scores since I don't know anyone in real life who plays.

In any case, I think I've been doing pretty well for this month:

Sundays are definitely the hardest - IIRC one of the achievements is to do with beating a certain number of them.

I just finished Jan 27th, and I barely beat you. 179. :D

DRAWLING
MODULES
SORDID
LIMERICKS
POTENTATE
TEETERING
CHEESE
JUGS

I believe I used two bombs as well. We could definitely use a daily WordJong thread.

EDIT: I went back and looked at your spoilers, and our words are completely different. That's so cool.

How many Apps have you got on your phone, Costanza? You always seem to be buying something.
I'm at 8 pages and almost out of space. Apple needs to up the page limit.

What is this WordJong thing? I've never played Mahjong before.

I posted in the Wordjong thread, Stoney, let's keep it going. Also, I'm assuming you misspelled the title of the game on purpose? :lol

EDIT: Now it's fixed.

Nah. I just screwed up. :lol

I asked a mod to fix it.

Raided this thread and bought a ton of shit yesterday:
Blue Attack! - not played yet
Alphabetic - was pretty fun on first play, need to check it out again
Nano - have not got much of a clue what's going on here, but sounds nice
Bounce Trap - I didn't get it. Was a bit jerky. Maybe need to clear my memory.
Aurora Feint The Beginning - How did I not have this earlier!? Thought it was just a simple match-3 puzzler, but it's basically Planet Puzzle League with knobs on, and that's in the cheap version. Think I might have to buy the more expensive version too. Anyone got feature comparisons of all the different AF games?
WordJong - everyone knows the score about this right now. It's grrrrreat!
Monospace - Addictive Crush-lite puzzler. Nice.
Strategery - Love the interface. Not played much, but have high hopes for this one.

Total 1750 yen (about $20). Amazing value for money really, especially considering the outstanding quality of most of them.

Payback is up. Clone of the overhead GTA style games. $6.99

Haven't played it myself yet so I can't comment but pretty anticipated title. 221MB

Wowsers, might wait till I am home to download this one (work has a popup that must remain active for Internet Access to stay live).

I bought it but I can immediately tell imo this isn't an automatic recommendation. The controls are immediately very finicky and noticably tricky. Not saying it can't be overcome and enjoyed but this is definitely more tricky than most of the racing games on the iphone which are already a shade more difficult than I think a lot of iphone users are use to and this is more tricky than any of them.

It you were on the fence I would definitely wait for a lite version if they do one to test it out and see if it is something you can come to grips with.

Glad to see more iphone threads on the forum - good job :)
Will avoid this game until I see plenty of positive feedback though. It looks a little rough.

To be fair there are some sensitivity options which helps although it still takes some getting use to. As I mentioned in the official thread separate sensitivity settings for on car versus on foot would be welcome in an update.

Any of you word game (Wordjong, Word Warp, Scrabble, ect.) fans check out Wurdle?

I think it's really excellent. Cheap too. It's been out for a while, and is quite popular. But things get lost in the shuffle on the App Store.

Wurdle is definitely one of the more popular words games on the iphone. I don't have that unfortunatelty. Maybe one day.

I've got Textroplis which is fun but on the extreme end of the leisure scale. You can't lose at it. Wordsworth is kind of neat because it's more of game than some of the others. And Stitchem words is another one I've heard good things about but don't own.

WordJong is my favorite so far because it's leisurely but there is still the pressure of doing a good enough job to beat the puzzle.

Yep, bought it when it first came out. It was one of the first apps I bought. Don't play it much anymore, really, but it was a great game when I did.

Thanks, I been on the fence about it ever since I saw it. Fan of GTA games but not older ones. I'll just check it out when they *pleaseeeeee* release the lite version. Bought WordJong instead.
