Most of those effects are 3Gs and 3g touch extras right?

From older gameplay I seen on youtube it's rather boring apart from the pretty visuals.

Motion blur is a 3GS/3G Touch exclusive because it's using OpenGL 2.0.
Overbright is optional on everything.

Speed Forge Extreme is totally crazy looking with tons of motion blur and overbright.
Still don't want to play more than the demo though.

Game certainly looks great, but damn it's difficult. Steering controls are quite touchy.

really loving sword of fargoal. finally died today and well... is that it? do i really have to start over?!

Overbright! What a great term! Sorry, I hadn't heard it before. I've often heard bloom in games referred to as "HDR", which is really annoying since it's basically the opposite of actual HDR. But "overbright" is such a great, descriptive term.

Thanks!

So let me get this straight. If I want to buy new apps from the store I need OS 3.0+. Being an iPod Touch user, if I want OS 3.0 I must pay money for it whereas all other users get it for free. So I have to pay to be able to pay for apps. Fantastic idea Apple.

It's shit like this that makes me totally sympathise with hackers and pirates.

iPod Touch =/= iPhone.

Is that Avatar game any good?

Yes, yes it is. It's Gameloft, who have more hits than misses.

Finger Physics is free today and only today! Pandora Box app helped me figure this out. That and Bargain bin are pretty sweet.

Thanks for the heads up, it's really good so far.

Hi guys,

Apple just approved our latest app Bird Strike. Crazy part is that we only submitted it to them less than 24 hours ago!

We're scrambling to get the full website together now, but in the meantime check out the freshly minted gameplay launch trailer

We should be up on the store worldwide on the 7th. I'll post some screenshots back in here later on, and give away a code or two :D

Couple of my friends have been working on a pretty fun game if you'd like to check it out. It's called Arroic, it's a bit of a mix between a ball maze game and a trick-shot game with tons of content. There's a trailer here and you can download it here, or the free lite version here. Hope you guys enjoy it.

Going by pandora's box app only a handful of app's are actually being added each day, it must just be a slow or low amount to go over after the huge rush everyone did to get their app up by christmas :P feb should speed it up again.

Driver is down to £2.99 from £3.99 now, I think that means from $7.99 to $5.99 in apple's pricing.

Looks great. If there's a line for those codes, I would like to be in it.

Any of you devs messing around on the Pre now that Palm released the PDK? Wondering how it compares. I know that the processor and GPU are the same as the 3GS, but that doesn't mean a whole lot in terms of ease of development, does it?

Seen this insanity?

Potential for this is amazing, but I imagine it could also get VERY annoying!

Deserves a thread of its own. Seriously. I expect either craaaaazy 4 figure pricetags, or some crazier lame flaw going forward, but that looks astonishingly cool. iDevices only do b/g... I wonder what the range would be. I always thought G was like 30-50 feet, but I'm probably wrong.

picked up bird strike!

fun game, but damnnnn is it begging for online leaderboards

Thanks Foob! We've got two major comments so far - fixing the damn screen auto dim, and online leaderboards. The first one has been swiftly dealt with, and we're looking into OpenFeint support now. We've released three apps using it so far, so it might not be far away :P

We're on the homepage of toucharcade.com for more impressions: http://toucharcade.com/2010/01/07/bird-strike-a-game-of-flying-and-falling/

Just got done playing Trenches for a good 2 hours and I have to say its pretty great. Its a WW1 kinda simplistic RTS/TowerD typish game. After you beat the campaign you get a zombie horde mode which is awesome too! Check it out if you havent.

Looks cool. Bird games on the iPhone are rad. If people haven't already, they should check out Must Eat Birds and Angry Birds.

Birds.

According to SlideToPlay:

BREAKING NEWS: We are told by a person working for Ubisoft that this sudden, unexpected release and unusually high price point are a mistake. The game will be pulled soon because it may be buggy, and the $12 price will not be back. If you buy this game now you will be overpaying for a pre-release version, so please wait until the game is properly released at a lower price.

glyder, ko boxing 2, jewel quest mysteries, glyder 2 and Pinball Wizard (create your own pinball tables, made by a pinball engineer) are all for sale at 7sek, (or .99$)

Plushed is $0.99, down from $1.99 right now.

And, am I too late for the Bird Strike promo codes?

^yes, IMO I've owned both and it's painful going back to using a 3G after using the 3GS. Not just in terms of how fast games and apps load (and perform) but just the general UI feels so sluggish now on a 3G.

Question, is the 3GS much better, and overall worth they increased price compared to the 3G? Or should I go with the 3G?
Most app's will run at a much better frame rate due to the faster processor, if the dev added in any support to the better graphics chip you can get games with motion blur, bump map etc but hardly any app's support there extra features right now due to so many people owning an older device.

It's worth paying more to get a 3Gs or 3g touch because in a year from now it will still be kicking good power and games will evolve to look much better by using it, it's come to the point now where the older iphones are slowly becoming too weak for certan games, ridge racer is one of them where it runs terrible unless you are on a faster model.

To compare:

old iphones & 1g touch : 400-412mhz
2g touch : 533mhz
3Gs & 3g touch : 600mhz and an improved powerVR chip

I own a 2g touch and it's still working brilliantly with all the games I own, even ridge racer is 30fps now since it's last update. But the game will be even smoother on a newer model.

Thanks for the recommendations... Just got Bird Strike and Beat It.

Haven't loaded up Beat It yet... but I'm already loving Bird Strike.

Not only is it quite a bit faster and capable of pixel-shading effects, but the 3GS has a much better camera with the ability to choose where to focus, and it can take videos as well (the 3G cannot do videos).

Mine does and really if you have one there is no reason for anyones to not be able to as well.

I'd get the 3Gs. Its just overal faster. If you plan to do any gaming then its the better option.

Awesome! Glyder is hands down my favorite iPhone game so far and I hadn't tried the 2nd one yet.

I'm sorry this isn't a game, but Hipstamatic is one of the best purchases I've made so far.

Also, thanks for the Canabalt recommendation. I love it.

Nah, he was talking about the regular 3g. It can record videos as well.

I think most people, myself included, don't want to deal with the hassle of having to keep up with jailbreaking between every firmware update. Plus, the video recording on 3G is crap compared to the built-in recording on the 3GS.

IMO it's more burst-mode photography than it is video capability, but to each their own I suppose.

Hey guys, long story short, but after waiting months to update my unlocked 2G to 3.0 waiting for a reliable program, today I just found I could update without problems, keeping the unlock and everything, so I'm back to be able to buy iPhone games.

So far I have bought Beat it because I loved the art and concept, and I am nicely surprised with Twin Blades Lite. Oregon's Trail will probably be a game I get for sure, but was hoping to find some reccomendations of the best games avaliable (from you, or pointing me to any page that have such info). Thanks in advance.

Canabalt
Hook Champ
Space Invaders Infinity Gene
Peggle
Flight Control

those should keep you busy for a bit.

Said already but most Glu games are reduced currently to 59p/99c (glider 1-2, family guy, minigolf wacky worlds, etc.

Also Plushed is down to cheap, some people here were looking forward to that game. I been hearing a few complaints like 10 minute stages with no check point on death so i'm passing on it.

^is minigolf wacky worlds any good?
dunno :P looks damn fun though so I linked it.

Years ago when I was in a dorm at uni and doing the weekly washing trip I had to sit with the machine as it did it's cycle and drying, so I use to play a mobile phone mini golf game on it so much I must have beat it like a billion times, since then I love the isometric putting games :lol

The 3G can only record videos if you jailbreak it and find/download unofficial software that uses some hacks to do it. The 3GS has videorecording built-in as an official feature, and its camera system is much better suited to it.
