The Official Left 4 Dead Thread

I'm dumb: how do I screencap, and where are they saved? TF2 was kind enough to tell me the key to hit!
By default, it should be set to F5. You can set what key you want to use in the controls menu. They are saved in your Steam directory under steamapps\common\left 4 dead\left4dead\screenshots

Thanks. I'd been spamming the keys around F11 hoping that would do it. Looking in the settings would have just been too easy.

I got a new card yesterday and I've been rocking this at 1600x1050. Boomers now look much more awesome.

The funny thing about Boomers is that their fatness breaks the game. If you look down at yourself and jump, your head will clip through the massive gut.

Valve has the movie posters up for sale at their store. You can buy all four for 15 bucks, or 7 bucks individually. Free shipping on orders $50 or more to a US address. Unfortunately, I am living in Canada and I'm just not willing to spend that much. Still, that Dead Air poster is damn tempting.
Waaat? Only $15 for all 4? Insta-buy--they'll look nice next to my Left 4 Dead cover art poster. Between both versions of the game and all this fucking merch, I've spent, hmmm, like $120 on it. Fuck you for being awesome Valve. :D

I'm running into a "lack of friends" problem on Steam. There is one game going right now, but full, and I am not a big fan of this game in public rooms.

Boo.

:lol I always miss the Gaf game too; my Left 4 Dead experience consists of 20 minutes of refreshing my friends list and then 2 hours of awesome usually.

Seriously, you guys really need to start playing by my schedule.

Clearly this is a problem on my end, not the game, but that's one of the problems with 8 person online as opposed to the larger games like Team Fortress.

Stupid question: Is there a way to mute players on your team? Valve is usually pretty about that I thought, but I can't find a way to.

Uh huh.

What the fuck is with people trying to assign a "playtime" to a multiplayer game? What the fuck is the playtime of Counter-Strike? Tribes? Battlefield?

Get a fucking grip people, good god.

Probably my most played game this year.

my hours played stats are pathetic, but if I counted all the hours I wish I had been playing this while sitting in grad school classes, I would be getting the Eagle Soars shit

I've never seen a review miss the mark as much as this one does. While I agree with the score, the content of the review doesn't match up with it. The rocket launcher suggestion is pretty telling of the reviewer trying to play backseat game designer. It's obvious that while there is a limited load out, the guns in the game are extremely well balanced for the type of game it is. Might as well make a game where Lara Croft has to deal with breast cancer while you're at it.

Zoey has breast cancer, she becomes an icon for strong, independent women everywhere. She survives cancer and hooks up with Louis.

Louis becomes an American hero after surviving the zombie wars, he goes on a long campaign to become the first black President of the USA.

Francis sticks around with Louis and eventually becomes the most badass Secret Service agent ever, he doesn't even wear a suit.

Bill has a successful business selling zombie-defense paraphernalia and giving lessons on dealing with possible future apocalypses. He becomes the secretary of defense under Louis.

There's the ending for the game, now haters can stop whining.

There will also be many shitty mods that break the game, Gametrailers can go download those and have fun with them.

Anybody else getting "The Steam servers are currently too busy to handle your request. Please try again in a few minutes" ???

Edit: nm, its going now. Never seen that before on Steam.

So no one knows if you can mute players?

Also, I just got the cr0wned achievement. Randomly went up behind a witch on vs. and headshotted her in the back of the head with the normal shotgun!

I have more or less a 1 in 4 chance of getting to play this game on the nights when I have time to try. When I can it's amazing, when I can't it's always full friend rooms and pub games that are impossible to play in due to horrible lag.

Dammit, why can't I play this fucking game more?

More like infinity. I remember I was like WHAT when they said that... I want to see them go through all the campaigns on expert in 4 hours, I dare them.

Has anyone had any issues with the Xbox 360 version freezing on the loading screen? I have a brand new copy of LFD, and a brand new 360 as of a week ago (bought an Arcade to replace my broken one), and it has frozen on me 4 times during the first loading screen, and the one time I actually got to play a level, it froze during the status report after the level. These are hard freezes that require me to turn off and then turn back on the 360. I am thinking I got a badly burned disc or something. None of my other games suffer from this.

yeah.

Last time it froze so bad that the power button didn't work and I had to unplug the console.

I'm only at 35 hours,
this game is certainly no tf2
I still need to beat everything but death toll on expert though. Haven't played any co-op since i discovered versus mode .

That review was pretty much spot on, valve didn't put enough content into this game for its release. I though the AI director would keep it fresh but after playing for a week I feel the AI direct is actually kinda of limited, its a true shame.

I feel the same way gotta say. The director just isn't enough to keep things fresh.

From my experience, the director only starts to really impact your gameplay on the higher difficulty levels (advanced and up- depending on your skill level). On normal, it doesn't do much as you can pretty much handle anything it throws at you. When you get to the difficulty point where you and your party must resort to running and avoiding combat, then you truly begin to appreciate/curse the director.

I've got 6.7 hours of gamplay and I haven't touched the last campaign yet. I've been pretty casual about this game too. Gametrailers really dropped the ball in assigning a play time value to this game.

i honestly hope valve fully supports us 360 owners as my computer is not good enough to run L4d and ive developed "big comfy couch" syndrome. some of the maps in development look awesome and i hope valve can find some way to bring them to the marketplace or create their own awesome maps for us 360 owners.

Am I the only one who doesn't notice the film grain effect? (PC). I want to say i kind of notice it in the finale of No Mercy with the lightning effect but I think it's just the lightning. I have film grain cranked all the way up too.

Do I need to crank the shaders up?

My mate brought this over and we had a split screen game on the 360 & projector. We only got the first level done but fuck me it was awesome. So many "Oh Shit" moments. The graphics were very poor in split screen but we didn't give a crap, we were having too much fun.

Somehow the game kept us moving at a frantic pace and always in the correct direction (which isn't easy when a lot of it is corridors in the 1st level).

You might be right, the film grain might take more power so it may be turned off on lower settings. I'm not sure actually, I've only ever played the game with max film grain and I definitely see it.

This game is great if you play it multiplayer. I think the average GAFfer has played 30 hours in 1 week.

Uh, yeah, looks like the effect isn't turned on.

Stupid question, but on which end of the "grain amount" bar is the slider? (Left = no grain, Right = full grain)

Right = full I'm pretty sure.

Maybe your videocard can't run the grain shader?

They're right in that I won't be spending as much time with this game as, say... TF2. Or even nearly as much time as I thought.

But I'm sure I'll get a solid 60 hours. I mean, I'm already at 35 hours of the game/demo. I plan to return to it once I get a new computer.

transitioning between campaigns in a movie now causes severe lag, enough so that reconnect to server must be done. I just timed out of one. This happened in Death Toll, seems to be a new problem.
