It's just not that far I guess in the grand scheme for some spots. I don't know if pouncing straight up adds anything; I pounced straight up and down onto someone that I was standing over and got no damage bonus.

Yeah, I hear the damage is calculated by horizontal distance, not so much vertical.

Question for those who've been playing the update for a while... what's the 'accepted' tactic for the DT finale? I downloaded the patch yesterday and joined a match that was on DT5. The Survivor team were all standing out in the water, unable to be attacked by the Infected from anywhere. Is this frowned upon by the community or does each and every team do this?

It's the only reasonable explanation.

I don't jump straight up very often, I did kind of once tonight, and it was the lowest pounce damage-wise I did. I captured some decent pounces I did in tonight's games, and kept two crappy ones for comparison. Maybe these will help you out in seeing how much damage different types of ranges do. They're very big, so I'm just going to link to them.

25 on No Mercy 1. Was cool because it was actually a simul-pounce; PillowKnight did a 25'er at the same time too.

Crappy 15 one, somewhat upward, but as you can see, there isn't as much overall distance here.

Decent 22'er, pretty far, but not quite far enough for a 25.

A little less far for a 20, but a little trickier due to where the survivors were positioned.

A 25'er (on Nabs!), probably the most basic kind of 25; just from far away. I lived from this one and re-tried, but missed another 25. :(

The most 'upward' one I did (only 13 dmg), and you can see that it just isn't from far away in comparison.

It seemed as though for the high ones, I was in the air for about a second and a half, but I was in the air about that long for that 15 one too. Hope they help, but I don't know.

That's how our match ended earlier. We fought a Tank for what felt like 10 minutes because we stayed in the water and the Tank stayed away throwing rocks. I've seen people stay upstairs too, and that is an easier spot. The Death Toll finale I just don't like, from how Tanks can wind up playing out, to the slow arrival of the boat itself. Tank has managed to show up every time I've played it so far. I'm pretty sure Death Toll is my least favorite versus area.

Stay out on the patio area on either sides of the ammo, so stick to primary weapons. (2 to each corner). Weapon wise, I believe that all rifles should be fine but I find a mix of shotties and rifles are good in most cases. Most of the infected come through the middle if they lose sight of a survivor on either side so set up gas tanks every now and again in the middle if you still have a few sitting around. Tanks spawn from 4 different areas(W,NW,NE,E), so anytime they spawn at the sides just try to pick them off and they'll climb up over railing giving everyone more time to deal damage.

Final version, now with milk moustache and detailed shoes. If anyone's interested:

http://www.filefactory.com/file/agd985c/n/huntermoo_rar
:D

edit: To install, make a backup of you pak01_dir.vpk file and copy and overwrite the files from the rar in your main /left 4 dead/ folder. If you already have skins installed open pak01_dir.vpk with notepad++ and replace $baseTexture "models\infected\hunter/hunter_01" with $baseTexture "models\infected\hunter/hunter_02".

I reckon that's going to be the standard tactic for DT5 before too long. If you stand right up against the invisble wall then hunters will have a problem pouncing the survivors because the water is deep there and they can't pounce in water that deep. Boomers will be spotted before they get a chance to get close enough to vomit, same with smokers. The survivors kept throwing molotovs in the house because that's where the infected automatically spawn when you stand out in the sea. Tanks will be almost dead by the time they get deep in the water and there's hardly any distractions for the survivors. I'm not sure how they could fix it since they can't remove the invisible walls in the sea. Seems like the most broken of the finales in versus now.

If this is the level that you escape in the boat (its been awhile for me) then a me and a few guys ran all the way to the right (if you're facing the house) to a big rock. If you hit the right angle you can jump up on it. From there you can see everything coming to you, minus the occasional smoker in the water. We had set up gas cans in front of the dock so when we make a run for the boat we light it so the horde/tank cant slow us down. also someone has to make a run call the boat.

Francis + Bill. Not Zoey + Hunter/Smoker.

Clearly you haven't watched Left 4 Head! I mean, not that I've watched it, but there has to be more variety than that.

And if it bugs you that much, we can just have a big orgy so everybody gets their pairings of choice!

Don't they already have that? They do in-game at least, the ones that are more than one thing.

I can only speak for the 360 (burn!) version, but I think you could already check your progress on achievements in the main menu even when the game was just released.

Well, it had numbers for stuff that needed multiple things, like What are You Trying to Prove, it'd have x/4.

I see what it added. On the 'get a bronze/silver/gold medal on all survival maps', there is a + symbol below, to see what maps you've gotten a medal in. Although you could just check the leaderboard and see it anyway. NHK made a picture that it's also there for WAYTTP, and it shows which campaigns you've beaten on expert.

They could make it so you start drowning and have to be rescued if you get too far out, and standing closer to shore wouldn't help.

Any news on how the SDK is coming along? Last I heard someone official said it will be released "very shortly after the Survival Pack" if I remember correctly. Anything new?

It's in closed beta where the beta testers are experienced community mappers. There should be some nice things coming out in the following months!

Hey next time you gaffers are gonna play versus give me a shout. Steam ID: Deltron Zero. Add me to your list if you want.

L4D desperately needs team matchmaking. I can't blame people for rage quitting so often when they go up against friends, its just unfair. I've been playing a lot with my friends against pubs (its tough to find another team) and its getting boring. People rage quit all the time, and even if they stay, most of the time we just toy around and the score is usually couple thousands apart.

I just want to play fair games of versus with gaffers!
