The Official Left 4 Dead Thread

Picked up the Steam version. My tag is Mr Daravon if you want to add me; I added Scarlet and the GAF L4D group to mine (which took me forever to find and figure out how to add :lol )

I'm getting used to WASD alright now, still working through kinks hitting E/R and the weapon hotkeys though, but I think that's mostly the fact I'm on a laptop anyway.

Just started downloading the trial. Since I don't have a mic (why don't online games pack in a basic mic?) I'll just be playing Campaign to see what it's like.

:( Twice today I've quit Left 4 Dead, and it freeze/crashes on exit. Anyone else seen that? I don't think there was an update today...

You can customize the controls..I used to use R to reload but it was pretty uncomfortable and I lost access to my other movement keys, so now it's Q and it works great! But people say my controls are weird. :(

I get that sometimes, maybe once every couple days usually.

back in my day, we had to hit the esc button and point to the exit button to exit, not like your fancy hotkeys these days that do it all in 1 hit....heeyaw

Last I looked, it was releasing on both PC and 360 next week, full retail for both ($60 for 360 and $40 for PC). It's not going to be any cheaper, and since you can probably get the existing 360 version for cheaper than that, there's no reason to not just get it now unless you are looking to pick up a copy for lan purposes (seems unlikely) or you like the new boxes :p

Man, what a great game. The part in the pre release demo was almost the worst part they could have picked. It gets so much better, I especially love the forest areas.

If I had any amount of money whatsoever to devote to gaming at this moment, there's no doubt this would be the one I picked up.

Anyone else notice that's it's almost more fun on the higher difficulties if one of your team members is absolutely terrible? "Oh, there goes soandso again, shooting a witch and a car alarm at the same time with his autoshottie"

Speaking of quickswitching, I don't know a good way to beat 10 minutes on the crane map in survival, and it makes me sad that they fixed a couple of "exploits" with it. But I did notice that if you camp next to the weapons and change quickly, you can reload the assault rifle in about half the normal time.

Too bad we kept getting punched or smokered off the roof.

It was a lot of fun! I'm not used to the height difference for my keyboard and I got a new mousepad today too, but I got punched off by the Tank on the finale way too many times. My bad. We had some good times though!

Thaed or Toby fell, and the other one fell off trying to rescue him. I can't really laugh because I do the same thing still!

I don't know what the problem was with those witches, well the first one I just didn't see and set her off, but the next one after that I don't know why she didn't die instantly. Had fun, but that was a pretty sloppy game for me. Let's play again sometime! Pistols don't work very well on Tanks, however.

Yeah it was a lot of fun regardless of our suckiness...Toby getting knocked off when he tried to save me, and his n00b nade skills were highlights :lol

We'll have to do it again soon

Thought I'd try getting the "beat a campaign on expert" achievement since I've been playing so much since last trying it. Jeez :lol. Now the problem isn't so much my ability to stay alive, but the ability of my AI teammates to stay alive (in the first part I made it to the end with 100 health). I've only tried it with No Mercy though and I always die at the warehouse part. Maybe I should try Dead Air since that one's a little easier for me or does anyone feel it's an achievement you can really only get with human partners?

I don't know about ONLY, but I imagine it's a lot easier with human partners. Probably more fun too. But if your human partners are terrible, it can also be very painful. :p

sigh.. the end has come, 0 mins left on that friday promotion that they extended. Fortunately, I had the presence of mind to duck into a versus game before it went; holy hell, that was fun. One caveat, however: Hunter controls seem abominable to me. Maybe I just didn't have time to get used to them or something, but holy hell. I spent almost all my time sailing past my intended targets and getting gunned down from behind. Boomer was probably my favorite tho, I love trying to jump on people and surprise them enough to accidentally shoot me while I was right next to all of them. Good times.

Now, $21 in couch change. can he do it?!

Haha, seems you can try Expert Survival if you have access to the server. Set the game to Expert, then using mp_gamemode set it to Survival and then load a Survival map and watch how quickly you die.

Hunter is fine, but yes it does take some getting used to.

Trust me, though. Once you do get used to it it's awesome. O:

I have unfucked my Steam install. Was screwy on and off for weeks, but other things kept distracting me. Tonight I went headlong into it and with help from Steam support I'm back in business. Time to celebrate somehow...

I only started playing yesterday, but I am enjoying the PC version of this much more than the 360 so far. The quality of players has so far been much higher. And something just feels right about typing rather than talking to strangers.

Are there GMTish regulars here? I'm dralisdair on Steam.

I recently amazoned my 360 copy and bought it for my new laptop. Holy shit, this game is so good. It was good on 360, but for some reason, it's great on PC. Nice that I can max it out and still run at a high framerate, too.

Something intangible about this game should be played on PC. I always didn't believe it, but it's true.

This coming from someone who plays TF2 on PC with a 360 pad b/c I have a previous ~250 hours of experience on the 360 version of TF and m/kb feels absolutely wrong.

^ this is why.. control scheme be damned (kb/m is definitive). the game runs like a dream and sucks you right in. plus its more polished and up to date on pc.

My 'finished games' stat for VS or whatever will always suck, because people on the other team goddam quit the entire time and we never finish a game.

It's weird, we had like at least 10 quitters at the start, but people still came and joined in, but in the 3rd map, we didn't get any new joiners.
