The Official Left 4 Dead Thread

There were COPIOUS amounts of connection problems introduced with the last patch for some reason. If you're having lots of trouble connecting, just keep that in mind. With any luck we'll see this resolved relatively soon.
 
I made a couple of friends download the demo, they all bought the game by now, and my friend's 14 years old sister is in love with it as well, I have a feeling this game is going to do great.

This happens on the first map in the beginning also but with less frequency; a boomer or hunter might spawn behind instead but less likely. So I wonder what's causing the director to spawn more smokers in those instances.

Man, I've played this demo way more than I want to admit. There's some people have clocked in more than 100 hours, haha.

Oh yeah, there's another reason why they should implement a mode with a limited amount of lives for the whole campaign, so people have a reason to save their teammates at the end of the level when they are in trouble instead of just saving themselves and running into the safe room.

So say you have 3 downed teammates and you're in the safe room. How it is now, the best thing to do is just let them all die and not risk saving them. With limited lives however, that would be a pretty detrimental to completing the campaign. Would also make for some intense/hilarious moments going back to try to save your buddies.

I figure that height from players may have something to do with it (smokers from above make for easier hanging ambushes). That spot is favorable for zombies because it has an entire other room out of sight connected to the hole, so the spawn zone is totally out of sight and at a good distance.
 
I played fine most of the day, but I was just playing with Red Scarlet and got massive lag at the start of level 2 again. Might've been because it was hosted locally though. Thought it was fixed :(
 
Bah, sorry to whoever I was just trying to play with, it got screwy for me as this demo has been for the last couple nights. At least I got to witness one of you (Red Scarlet I think?) fail at jumping from the apartment and eventually falling to their death. :lol :lol
 
Okay, I've pre-odered this for the 360 seeing as my PC really isn't up to snuff for playing games but I just had an awesome awesome jealousy inducing thought: Left 4 Dead + Garry's Mod.

I might have to double dip later next year, just for that.

EDIT: L4D with Portals! Or L4D in Portal... argh!! Want so much...

Agreed. I would recommend that anyone with a PC version of this game go do that right now. It's quite entertaining to watch zombies drop dead in the middle of a desert. I'm sure Source SDK is plenty more frustrating. Here's one mapping tutorial I found.

Yeah, there's that, and there's the thought of making 'maps' really easily in gm_construct with bits and bobs and traps and wooden structures, turning the zombies on and fighting like a nutter as they tear apart the level. It's like you can have a toybox and put zombies in it. I wonder if you could you combine vs zombies, or headcrab zombies vs fast zombies??? argh, I loved gmod when I had a PC that could use it...
 
What the hell? How did Amazon get copies of this already? They are always absolutely awful when it comes to games but my 360 version shipped today (though they only sent it ground even though I clicked 2 day so it won't show up for a few days).
 
this game has me by the balls. i'm in love with all the little details that were put into it. the character animations are solid as hell, and charming too. it's great watching your partners fight for their life on the ground, John Woo dual-fisted style.

hard to believe there are 18.5 more levels to see. the thought of 3 other varied scenarios, including standoffs vs the zombies, has me salivating. Blood Harvest will probably be the creepiest, offering the classic zombie invasion setting of a farmstead and the scary-ass woods surrounding it. i'm already envisioning the Tank busting up trees and shit as he comes to destroy us.

without a doubt, this game is going to be a longtime favorite amongst my group of friends. the potential to get more of my buddies in on it with split-screen over Live has me considering double-dipping for the first time in, well, ever.

should we get Groups together for the big release. Like have a sign up list for times and the such in groups of 4 so we can plow through these missions on expert.

I will be up for starting to play at 5:30-6:00 -600Gmt or American Central Timezone (for anyone else in the midwest).
 
AHHHH i don't know which version should i get. The pc ver is like 10x better than the 360 one, but then all my friends are on xbox live .

It was most likely my really bad connection/firewall.

Supposedly, I'm going to get the game for half price on black friday, so then I'll be able to play the full one.

How long do I have to preorder L4D at the discounted rate on steam?

I preordered it on amazon at 36.99 and I want to wait until tomorrow to see if its going to get here by thursday (now it says 11/24).
