How about a flame thrower? would be an interesting double edged sword weapon. On one hand, mobs go down quicker, but then they will be enraged and also attack harder during that time.

The ending to No Mercy was kinda crazy. I played it on advance, and man, we had to replay that last part four or five times I think.

The only new weapon I can think of would be a more powerful, unduel wield able, slow firing, slow reloading pistol.

That's about all I can think of that could be added, unless you want some melee weapons or something.
I was hoping for a magnum in the game. And a chainsaw. Where's my chainsaw, Valve?!

played it about 6 times with 2 friends/1 AI and we couldn't complete it.

Just played through the first 4 Death Toll maps on normal, god that campaign is awesome. Normal is a breeze though, but you do get to feel like a badass for a while.

I would like a desert eagle pistol, mp5, and a double barreled shotgun in the next update please valve.
I'd like to see more variety, but having the mp5 and double-barrled shotgun seems redundant. Those roles are taken by the uzi and pump-barrel shotgun.

Yeah, but I'm just thinking of new weapons that won't upset the balance. They could be slightly different, like the shotgun could have a wider spread, but needs to be reloaded often. And the mp5 could have a higher rate of fire, but shorter range than the m4.

Played through the No Mercy campaign in 54 minutes today (on advanced). Not saying that's impressive or anything, but it did not feel like 54 minutes. Christ, that must have been the most intense 54 minutes I have ever experienced. This game is fucking amazing.

I'm impressed with how close you can become with people on your team. There's something to L4D that really encourages looking out for each other.

I played through No Mercy last night (WOW!), and at the end one of our teammates was knocked down by a hunter right as we were heading up the ramp to GTFO. Another guy got the hunter off of him, but too many zombies were swarming, with a tank coming as well. We had to leave him behind and it was actually a bit sad. The ending "In Memory Of" thing was fucking genius though.

Anyone got the All 4 Dead achievement yet? I guess they mean incapped and not killed since the game will end before you kill them all, but I think I did that today and nothing. Maybe someone else got the last one, hard to see, but in the end...this is damn hard to get.
All survivors need to be alive at the time you spawn as Tank, you have to get them (not so easy as soon they realize they can slow you down through shooting) and the others are more or less not allowed to do anything.

Oh and you have to spawn as a Tank.

I also missed the Lamb 2 Slaughter schievement today, because I punched the guy back into the safe room and incapped him there. Stupid me. :(

Someone got that in a game I played last night.

I just installed this to my 360 hard drive after getting the NXE update.

Load times are marginally better, but no drive noise is awesome.

However something weird did happen. I joined a quick match to try it out and ended up in a game of no mercy that had just started. I was in spectator mode and while nobody was controlling zoey, I couldn't exit spectator mode and start playing as her.

I quit out and then joined another game and it worked fine.

Question for PC version: is there a way to change crouching to be toggle instead of hold? I find that when I crouch I usually just want to stay crouched for a while, so i was wondering if there was a console command or bind I could do for this?

I dunno about the mp5, but a double barrell with a LONG reload time, but massive spread and damage (maybe ricochet too).

Also if Zoey heals someone other than herself, they should get more health, if you know what i mean.

He took a nap in the tanker apparently! The tank knocked him in there :lol

fair enough. I wish there was a story attached to this though.

There's a zombie apocalypse. You are one of the survivors. Go.

That's all the story the game needs.

Get mics, play with pals. What's amazing for me is that the movie vibe where the living are our own worst enemies develops in L4D matches. We're always arguing (in a good way), blaming one another for hording health packs, for startling witches, for friendly fire, for fucking things up in general. Then we survive a wave and are all back slaps and chest bumps until the backbiting starts again. In most multiplayer games, we bullshit while playing.

In L4D, we're all too busy screaming "Boomer!" or "Smoker!" as we hear them to break "character."

It's so perfect, because a single player can cost his entire team the game by screwing up or getting bogged down, just like how one survivor in a movie of this sort can single-handedly mess things up for the rest.

The "In Memoriam" at the end is hilarious, too. Even playing with random people, we all laugh when that comes up when one or more of us have died, because the timing of it is so perfect and it's amusingly cheesy. It's especially great if everyone makes it to the helicopter/boat/etc at the end except for one person, and you're all laughing about that and then the "In Memory Of" pops up, inducing even more laughter.

While that is true, I wish they filled in the blanks between each campaign a bit. IE, "the helicopter off the hospital crashed near the highway" or something like that.

Yeah, just be more communicative! I don't think you even typed anything at all for the most part. But your sniping did the talking!

I'm not that quick of a typist, so when I say something, it takes me out of the action for a few seconds. Then we get rushed and I feel dumb. :lol

Na our group doesn't even need to communicate. We're so N'sync with each other compared to other groups I've been in its crazy.

Valve has always been more about telling their story in-game, though, rather than anything more overt or obvious. You can read the graffiti scrawlings in the safe rooms in the various campaigns and get a good sense of what happened and what's going on, if you really need to (they're fun to read, regardless). Personally, I don't see why there needs to be much of a background to the story at all. Everything involving zombies has already been done. There's also no need for a background because there's only one motive the entire time and it's very straightforward and requires no added explanation: "get the hell out of there."

Go through the commentary, they connected all the movies at first, but playtesters didn't like it because they wanted the satisfaction of being rescued and free. Each "movie" is entirely separate and it's just 4 different scenarios that might happen to people during a zombie apocalypse.

I think the game is fine story wise, a clear goal is set, they proceed to it, and the story comes in the form of a completely different experience each time you play. You're supposed to be creating the story with your interaction with the other characters. Is the guy playing Francis headstrong and keep running off ahead of everyone? Well, just like in a horror movie he's going to be the first one to go.

Damn, I have a backlog now.

Deadspace
Fallout 3
Left 4 Dead

I think I'm going to be playing L4D for quite awhile though... its so much fun.

In the No Mercy campaign a Boomer snuck up on me exploded and then right after I got hauled into a room by a Smoker. I didn't survive very long. :lol

The commentary in the extras actually talks about why they decided against doing this.

Initially there was going to be a set order to each scenario and short movies that linked them together.

man, fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuck circuit city

my store never got it in (they got the 360 version, though)

dude just shrugs and says keep checking back even though the ad says "in stores wednesday 2 pm"

they do this all the time, they'll probably only get it in after the $39.99 sale is over

i'm so glad they're going out of business, just a shitty mismanaged store all around

anyway, that made me miss the steam sale too, and i refuse to pay $50

they have a four-pack on steam, four copies for $150, which would come to $37.50 per copy

if anyone wants to pitch in with me let me know via pm, everyone can paypal me the $37.50, and i'll send out the copies

otherwise, i probably won't be getting the pc version until there's a sale somewhere

I know how Valve tells their stories and I didn't ask for the game to have a developed background story.. I was merely hoping the campaigns would've been linked together a little more clearly (flaming wreckage of the news chopper if you turn around at the start of Death Toll, for instance). But it appears the campaigns aren't supposed to be linked at all, so it's a moot point.

I'm not good enough to be a replacement, Blizz. Think of me as a standby. :D You and I need to game together sometime, too.

I have the 360 version, and I gifted a steam copy pre-order to a pal for always hooking me up with his hand-me-down pc stuff. I have already paid quite enough for this one game. If I can't get my own boxed or digital copy of the PC version for less than $50, I just won't be getting it.

So, who else knew the gas station in the No mercy campaign could explode? I don't know who on my team shot it but I was instantly killed. That's what I get for taking a shot-cut to the lift I guess. :lol

Got some good playtime in last night and have just been amazed by the balance in the game. The risk reward structure of saving one of your teamates when they've been downed, to the conservation of first aid kits, to the perfect run and gun gameplay, all done in the wonderful Source engine was outstanding.

I played with two strangers last night, and a guy I barely knew from GeoWars 2 score attack days, and I was amazed at how the game cultivates teamwork so quickly like none other. I'm looking forward to the time when I can get 4 people I actually know to get on this with me, but I have a feeling it won't be too long.

gamertag: acid snake12 add me.

My second run through, I was sniping a few zombies close to it. The explosion scared the shit out of me.

Luckily, no one was near it.

Many know this already, but for those random people who don't, and manage to get me killed...

When you reload, there's no need to retreat to the back of the room while your character goes through the reload animation. You can melee the shit out of a horde throughout a reload. It doesn't interrupt the process.

So, hit R, and get to swinging.

It's solidly over 3x the TF2 peak of the day at the moment. I suspect Left 4 Dead stole a lot more TF2 players proportionally than Counterstrike ones. Counterstrike Source seems ~10k lower peak than usual, as does TF2.
