OOOOOOH I forgot to mention, the Hunter is great for intimidation, sometimes I'll just jump around continuously so the Hunter does his screeching, some players will be shaken up by this and start making mistakes :lol
I love doing this. It works even better when you leap into the ground, you can create a rapid series of shrieks as if you're bouncing around like crazy.

Sometimes you'll make a player or two paranoid :lol

Wow there is a huge exploit in Death Toll, allows you to beat the last level on expert with basically no having to fight a tank or a the horde :lol

I found it randomly when i was cowering in fear, and then one by one each wave disappeared. Only work was running back to the boat, which i managed to do

What is this exploit? I can't find how to do it and was just curious to see how its done. If there is a post already, # please.

Are Campaign 2 and 3 available in Versus mode on the PC version? I was wondering why they aren't available on the xbox 360 one. Anything on a possible patch that makes these playable in this mode?

My guess is that Valve will make them available through Versus through a patch in both the PC and Xbox 360 versions of the game. The finale of No Mercy was altered slightly in Versus with the "main" building being changed so Turtle Rock may be looking at slightly changing Dead Air and Blood Toll in a similar way, and just weren't finished with the changes at the time the game shipped. There's no reason why they shouldn't be made available eventually though. Hopefully soon.

I was going to guess that it was because of balancing issues, but you pointing out the Finale difference in No Mercy pretty much confirms it.

I'm sure they're just working out how to get everything balanced properly so the infected don't ruin everything or the survivors aren't indestructible.

On the PC version if valve doesn't do it I am sure some industrious modders will make them versus playable once the SDK is released.

There is a rumor floating around is that Valve is working on a new 5th campaign right now for both 360 and pc versions that will also be versus playable. No word on release and no word on if they are also working on versus mode for dead air and death toll.

Ok I finally got to pick this game up before the holiday (since I was going to be home alone). I racked up something like 40 hours on it in 3.5 days. Crap this game is so seriously addicting.

The typical annoyances on public servers are there, but what can you expect. I can say for the most part I've had a good experience on public. The only thing that will cause me to leave is intentional tk'ing, and some who is too damn serious about the game.

You can do a similar thing in NO MERCY - 4 Hospital
It's so fun as a boomer to drop right in front of everyone in the elevator hallway just like santa claus and splashing all four with boomer bile.

I actually keep running into teams who go cram into the closet in the laundry room until the elevator arrives, so I haven't had any luck dropping in like this.

From the Eurogamer Q&A a few weeks back:

Gamma asks: I'm sure a lot of people have been wondering this, but why can only No Mercy and Blood Harvest be played in Versus?
Chet Faliszek: Versus maps, while appearing near the same, are actually different versions of the maps. So for L4D we shipped with a total of 30 maps. The versus maps have to be split off so we can playtest and adjust them specifically.
In co-op, a section that is hard for Infected is easy for the survivors, it isn't unfair, it's just how that map plays. In versus, though, it becomes unfair, or just isn't fun for the Infected.

I think Left 4 Dead is my favorite game of the year. It is one of the most satisfying games I've ever played. I can't get enough of it and I haven't really even started versus mode yet.

Oh man...that's where I've been spending 90% of my time :lol

Something just very satisfying about knowing that there are a group of people that are trying their hardest to succeed, and I'm there to just go and eff all that up...makes me quite happy.

Great great stuff for the natural griefer in all of us.

After like 2 hours of trying to beat the No Mercy Finale on expert last night, we finally gave up. We should have had it but we always end up losing 2 or so people to tank...they just take crazy long to drop. Closest we got was losing everyone by myself to the second to the tank. I got up the ramp to get to the chopper only to be thrown up on by a boomer. The horde wasted no time in getting to me, pushing me off the helipad before I could jump in the heli and I died. So close.

:lol Awesome!

To be honest, I really didn't expect myself liking this game so much. I wasn't even sure at first if I was going to buy the game because to my mind it seemed "too low on content" to even consider a purchase.

But oh boy, I am so glad I did get it.

I don't even know why I had doubts about a Valve game. I should've known they'll take care of me. :D

You know what, I keep thinking it's balancing issues but....the whole versus mode is atrociously unbalanced anyways...I don't see what an unbalanced map would change.

The finale's are 99% useless, since the survivors will never win unless the infected really suck.

My suggestion is: take tanks out of versus. Upgrade Infected damage (maybe double it), but remove tanks altogether.

I hate it when that happens. I swear sometimes those booomers pop out of nowhere.

First off, Valve content is much better byte for byte. I think they're testing a lot of ideas for maps and other content that haven't gelled to their high quality standards atm.

I also used to think that Valve was a glorified grouping of stoned slackers, but I'm sure they work their asses off filling every inch of their work with fine details. Blizzard also comes to mind.

Yeah. Especially in that finale, I have no idea where they spawn from. Them and hunters seem to pop out of nowhere during a horde.

No Mercy, sure - it's way too easy to get a Tank to punch half the team off the building.

Blood Harvest is pretty balanced, from my experience.

Been playing through the campaigns on advanced/expert on mostly public servers. Needless to say, this game is everything I've been hoping for. Up until yesterday I avoided Versus in fear that I would no longer enjoy the standard campaigns... but holy shit. Seriously one of the funnest competitive modes I've ever played in a game. Trying to explode as a boomer on the survivors, or waiting for the right moment to pounce as a hunter, or trying to find the best spot to pull a straggler away are all so absolutely satisfying. The only downside to this has been that playing the survivors is just not as fun as the infected in versus mode, outside of shooting a hunter in the face mid air. Its just all so damn good. I really cannot wait for more campaigns for both co-op and versus.

Anyway, I'm looking for people to play with as playing on pubs all the time can be a bit irritating. If anyone wants to add me my steam ID is: Aicos17 (i usually play at night)

I've used it as a distraction technique. Couple times it would of been impossible for our boomer to get anywhere close. But a screeching and jumping wildly hunter tends to keep their attention.

There's a reason why they throw the two tanks at you in between hordes and not during. A decent team can always take down a tank with upgraded guns. Don't know where you're getting the 'unbalanced' from. Like I've already said, a good tank is really the only game clincher for infected side.

So does that mean they're adjusting them and going to patch them in for Versus or what? Maybe there is too much that they'd have to alter to make it worthwhile. I am very interested to see how Turtle Rock and Valve are going to support L4D DLC wise.

Most definitely.

On Blood Harvest, I was on the roof of a barn as a Hunter, and the survivors were passing by. I leaped into the barn roof several times, and watched to see if it was affecting them any. I grinned from ear to ear after seeing one of the survivors twitch around as if looking for me somewhere in the trees :lol .

More than likely they are working on the other campaigns to make them versus compatible.

Oh, and this is Valve, so expect tons of free DLC :lol

You don't have to shoot the Smoker himself in order to free your friend, you can just shoot his tongue and it'll loosen up your partner. You won't kill the Smoker, but at least the person is free to go.

General hunter/smoker easy killing tip: Find a place where all the survivors are going to have to go somewhere where they can't go back. Wait there and after 3 of the 4 jump down, pounce/snare the 4th one for a free kill.

You can just melee the victim to get them free, something I wish more people knew about instead of trying to shoot the smoker. Supposedly you can shoot the victim to free them, but that's never done the trick for me.

So I'm getting the car washed today and I bring my "Zombie Survival Guide" with me to read in the meantime. I decided instead of reading I'll do some grocery shopping. At the register the cute cashier sees the book and mentions how awesome it is. I don't think I've ever seen a cute nerd girl in my area, they're mostly club rats. So I mention that I'm reading in conjunction with this game I'm playing and she's like "oh L4D... I'm playing it too, I love zombies." So I mention that she should give me her gamertag and she says she plays on PC. HAHA she's more hardcore than me...or she was blowing me off :(

Zombie Wedding....nice. :lol

Notice how things have moved away from getting her phone number and straight onto gamertags. How things have changed. :lol

See if the tag works, have some zombie fun and go from there!

Hmph...melee the person, eh? Haven't tried that one, but it makes sense.

I've definitely freed someone by shooting them in the torso, so I spose by natural extension melee'ing works.

Will keep that little tidbit in my back pocket.

I dunno, you get 2 tanks. The first tank should at the very least be able to take out 1 survivor. The second tank should also be able to take down at least another, and the rest of the infected can very easily pin down the other 2 survivors.

I guess I'm just a really good tank then. :lol Besides one time where I was in an impossible situation, I've never failed to take out the entire survivor team with a tank. I could see a team taking me down in Blood Harvest at the finale if they're camping upstairs and runing around the roof, but as long as my teammates can grab 1 or 2 of them, there's no reason I shouldn't be able to take the entire team out.

Most tanks are stupid because they rush the survivors in impossible situations without the help of their infected teammates. All the same, some infected don't do their job when a tank is around. I only play with friends, and we honestly never lose. It's frustrating because the enemy team always ends up leaving partway through the match.

I wish I could mod...I had an idea for a L4D movie (partially) set in a Zoo. The infected skins could be switched up:

Hunter -> Tiger
Boomer -> (panda!) Bear
Smoker -> mutated lizard man?
Tank -> Gorilla
Witch -> ?

I title my wholly-unbaked idea "Animal Instinct: Unleash the Beast...and Pray."

I want more maps Valve!

Did Valve actually say if the updates are going to be new movies, new infected (or possibly both)?

It was inevitable that the fairer sex would gravitate toward the superior gaming nerd. As a PC gaming nerd is likely to be richer and more intelligent, he will thus be able to beget and raise children in greater comfort. It is encoded in the human genome.

Can't be said enough, always melee first! Also if you're using shotguns and someone's getting dragged away switch to the pistol to shoot them.

I'm having a real hard time trying to decide between this for the Xbox 360 or Resistance 2 for the PS3. Which has the most fun coop/multiplayer gameplay and which has more replay value are some factors I guess.

Any recommendations from you all on this choice?
