So who was the Tank that got the three ppl in the APC incapped before the one person out of it?

I blame Charsace and Xanie.

Anyone ever done any benchmarking with L4D? If so, do you know if it's possible to run a demo made on an older version, on an updated client? I've downloaded the timedemo Guru3D.com are using and I'm getting this error:

ERROR: demo network protocol 37 outdated, engine version is 38

Just finished a game against pretty good pubbies. We thought we were fucked when they took the first map in No Mercy by a landslide(we got wiped; they made it to she saferoom), but we managed to win maps two, three and four by pretty large margins despite both teams making it to their respective saferooms. At the start of the fifth map we were already ahead by a thousand points and me managed to shut them down during the finale, giving us the win.

We got wiped before we could even touch the radio on our last turn as survivors, though. :lol

Yikes, I did NOT know that. I think Scarlet said that she'd never been able to outrun a tank on expert, even with full health, so maybe it's only if it's on fire...of course, running doesn't help too much if it's NOT on fire. Does gunfire still slow it down?

just to clarify: on expert a tank is faster than you anyway, but gets even faster on fire. on advanced he's slower than you until you use fire. on normal and below he's always slower.

Last night I had the longest run of Death Toll I've ever had on Expert. I don't know what it is but for some reason the 4th chapter seems to be much more difficult than the Finale.

Anyway, I had joined a friend's game in progress. They were just reaching the log cabin in DT 3 just before the church panic event. Everything went pretty smoothly, so I figured the next chapter would be a cakewalk. Three of us left the church saferoom and proceeded down into the streets leading to the back alley. The person playing Bill decided he wanted to take a shortcut to the other side of the street (Method: Hopping along the destroyed gate heading west near the parked hummer). Most of us had our back turned to this person at the time, but when we turned around he had been puked on, constricted and as we drew near a hunter pounced on him. It was a quick death. So we pillaged his corpse and moved on without shedding a tear. We made it through the rest of the level quite nicely, but by the time we were able to rescue our Bill and finish the panic event we had no more medkits and 2 were near death. So we took things slowly (which is probably never a good idea in most circumstances) but this time it helped us get closer to the saferoom. "Wow! considering our condition, the director sure is being kind" someone said as we were making our way around the complexes before the final stretch. Then the worst possible thing happened at that moment. A horde came up on us right as Bill jumped down into the area near the saferoom while Zoey got incaped up above. I went down to cover for Bill not realising what had happened to Zoey. Francis gets puked on from below and gets incapped trying to rescue Zoey. [Tank music plays] It seems we didn't hear the snorts of a tank hiding in the alley right beside the saferoom. So he goes after me and I say "Use this chance to get into the saferoom! It'll be fine if it's just one of us" Oh...cruel director..... Bill limps his way towards the safety only to get pounced on by a hunter waiting within.

After that we simpled laughed it off and decided we'd move along at a faster pace. So once again we open the saferoom door of the church. [Tank music plays] ... By the time we made it to the finale most of us had to leave because it was getting late. Good times..good times

Just got the game last night, played a campaign and loved it. Although one guy on our team kept going off on his own and getting incapacitated/killed.

I joined both GAF groups on Steam, I'll be on tonight and this weekend. steam id=greenjerk... feel free to add me.

Man, Tanks are starting to be really annoying.

Lately I've started to play on advanced, and no way we can kill a Tank without at least one of the 4 survivors dying.

Yeah, setting him on fire and running, I read this yesterday a few posts ago, but this beast always manages to catch some of us.

Any sup3r pr0 tips?

Question from 360 player to PC:

So the smoker update says that it now does damage while it drags a survivor. Is this true for Campaign as well? Because if it is, wouldn't it make it harder to get the no-special-infected-damage achievement? Just want to know if I should go for that achievement now before 360 gets patched...

Updates like that were for VS only.

Make sure you have good health. If your health is low you run slower.

yeah this.

when you hear the music, you should heal or pop pills before he gets close. otherwise have your team mates stand and deliver on his ass.

The couple of recent pages informed us that the tank is always faster than humans on advanced or expert, and runs even FASTER when on fire, apparently.

So uh...use the ladder glitch to kill it, where the tank can't climb the ladder.

Sorry, that glitch was fixed.

Uh, shoot it? It might run slower then.

Um, maybe there are ways to trick it into doing stupid things, I'm not sure. Once I ran away around a building, and the tank merely ran across the top of the building, and jumped down on my head, incapacitating me Mario-style. :/

You can have the whole team crawl under a set of circular stairs. Like on NM3 right before you get into the sewers, or NM4 on the first floor right before you go up. The tank takes forever to crawl under those parts, and you might be able to kill it or have it burn out before it reaches you.

Anyword on any patches for existing content or new dlc coming out? Love the game but getting tired of the same two vs maps and all the bullshit glitching poor players insist on doing nearly every match.

Valve patching isn't always fast, but it's free and it's usually pretty good. There were something like 3 major TF2 updates last year, which isn't too bad. One about every 4 months.

keep your health above 40, even if you have to use a medkit (in some cases this is better if you know the end of the map is coming soon, because you won't always get pills in a map, but you will always get a medkit to start) and set the tank on fire and run. Don't just run forever, though. Get some distance, wait for the tank to throw something, and then go for cover.

It's actually pretty easy to outrun a tank even on expert, as long as your health is above 40, ideally still in the green, and you know the map just well enough to be able to lead the tank on a chase through areas it'll have to climb over. If it's on fire, don't even try shooting at it, especially if it's chasing you. Someone else can shoot it in the back a few times to draw its attention if they want, that way the tank will waste time chasing them before going to someone else. I've noticed shooting the tank in the back is the best way to get it to change targets.

I love this game.

My team did have all red pings while there's were all green though................. but it's all good

Having finally got around to doing a campaign on Expert last night I can now authoritatively give the following advice on defeating tanks.

1) Hear Tank coming.
2) Check everyone has good health.
3) See Tank
4) Shoot at the Tank.
5) When Tank chases after you scream like a girl and run away (Note: Screaming AND running at the same time is for advanced survivors only)
6) Defeat Tank/Die - choose as appropriate.

Basically I haven't got a clue beyond hope the tank spawns in a nice open area and that you have the upgraded weapons. The AI director will alternate between being a spiteful bastard who throws a tank AND a witch at you right outside the hospital doors when you've struggled through the last part of the level on 20 health each, and a wonderful friend who spawns a tank right at the start of the level when you have full health and loads of space to make him run around like a nobhead getting shot in the face.

Easiest way to kill an AI tank is to just keep climbing on things, and he starts climbing, jump down and climb up on something else. The dumb piece of shit will be dead in no time.

Besides what other people already told you;

use ladders, and other ways to get above the tank. The tank climbs slowly, so just jump down, and you will get a head start.

Anyways, with 4 autoshotguns, you can always hunker down into a small aread. With all 4 unloading 10 shots, the tank will only be able to down 1 of you, and you will kill him before he will deal the deathblow. (this is on expert).

Tonight I AM going to get expert on No Mercy. You hear that pop? CapnDrake? (steamID: lowlife555)

Fixed.

Did the 360 version receive the recent pc patch yet? I turned it on yesterday and got an update but I didn't play vs so I don't know if the exploits were fixed.
On a side note TF2 is still fun to play but it still has glitches. Fucking turret under the map...

Last night was the first time I played until the sun came up...

"Thanks L4D for turning GAFers into insomniacs one game at a time" ::Thumbs Up::

I feels the pain of a WoW player now...

This is the first of my posts Pop, 48 hours starts now

I really want the L4D SDK to be out already. I'm dreaming of a silly Left 4tress Dead mod where you can play as TF2 classes instead of survivors. although I should probably just buy gmod instead and make up the scenarios myself.

:lol at a part last night

Playing with Java and two circle x people, and we were trying to do Death Toll Expert.

Death Toll 3--

Forklift in the first long stretch outside the safe room, and a tank started coming, im standing on the train with the forklift right ahead of me. Tank hits the forklift and goes flying, flipping over and over right above my head.

That was so hilarious and awesome :lol

Last night we had a moment where we realized that the AI director hated us. On No Mercy: 5 we were climbing up the ladder to get to the roof and on the very edge of the only direction we could get off the ladder was a witch. We had to trigger it then a smoker pulled someone off the roof, a hunter pounced on someone else, the horde rushed us, and a tank showed up and finished us off. This was on normal. :lol

Another PC patch just came out. Melee bug finally fixed, and the weird burning tank bug is gone, which means I won't be wondering why the fire isn't killing me anymore!

- Fixed an exploit with melee where swapping weapons ignored the intended delay between swings.
- In Versus mode, the Tanks' health now reflects the damage he takes from burning.
- Fixed an exploit related to the "joinclass" command

Awesome. I don't know that I ever typically see people use the hypermelee, but it's good it's gone. I wonder if the burning tank thing means that weapons now kill you faster if you're on fire in vs.?

Probably, but it makes sense really.

It seems it takes around 75s for a tank to die from fire damage alone, but now shooting at it while it is on fire will bring it down faster.

e: seems like co-op was unaffected

We should get a gaf Left4Dead versus server. From what I can see, they cost under 20 dollars a month.

I've also managed to track down a couple manual ips that I've entered into the openserverbrowser and they've had really good pings (also were empty and NOT showing up in the searches.)

I really think if we had a decent server in Dallas/Chicago, almost everybody in the U.S. would get a 70-80 ping max.

That sounds as the best idea, will be looking forward to find some ladders next time.

Thanks!

So has anyone else encountered someone spawning AI bots on LIVE? I just played a game where I killed like 5 special infected within the span of a minute. It seemed shady.

I already have a server (hosted in DC) that I've offered make "the GAF server", but I would need whoever started the GAF Steam Group to let me know what the group ID # is - only the person who started it can see it. And I can't tell which admin actually started the thing...

Of course, if I did that, I might never actually get to use my own server...might not be the end of the world though, since I only play a few nights a week.

Anyhow, you're free to use it if you have the server browser up. I can't set sv_search_key on it without having it not be available for public use at all, so if you want to reserve it, drop me a PM. (I'm also happy to play - add me on Steam.)

Kard8p3...I think you annoyed EUG 7 by scratching him all the time as an infected and then TKing him in the elevator and with the car. He's kinda of peeved :P

Hahah, I didn't think he'd take it so seriously, I mean, it was a freakin' pub match and we were up by a few K, ya know?

edit: Wait..he got mad at the car part? I thought everyone though it was funny <_<;

my bad.

Yeah, the fucking awesome thing is I crashed, then the game patched and now I can't re-join the game I was playing as the server hasn't updated as its mid-game. It takes us like 2hrs to get to section 4 of Blood Harvest on Expert and then I can't play anymore, awesome, happened to another guy and his replacement as well, another night of Expert wasted, I swear we're never going to finish even one damned Expert campaign :lol

Excuse my ranting, my 360 broke last night and now tonight has me annoyed again :lol
