Finally found time to start playing on hard, I'm glad that the tutorial disappears from the first stage.

I just beat the game. I really enjoyed it, but there is one thing i'm confused about.

Who is this Frank person? I fought the Black Baron as the final boss. Did i miss something?

Frank is the boss of the Dungeon stage in the Castle area. Some people have trouble with him.

I just beat the game too. A little annoyed that, if I want to do all the Deathwatch Challenges, I'm gonna have to beat the entire game a second time. Might do it if there's something worthwhile waiting at the end, though.

Oh that. That wasn't too bad. :lol

I was kinda hoping that there was more though. I still have to complete the Death Watch challenges and i was hoping that would've unlocked something.

How long did you guys play it? What should I expect?

A few hours. My play clock probably came to about 3 hours and that's with some dying and game overs. Some "stages" are mere minutes long.

EDIT: It's replayable though. I know I just started on a Hard playthrough.

What, it didn't disappear for me :(
It didn't for me either when I started on hard with a different save slot. Every area was locked again too.

Then I used the same clear save data I finished on normal to start a new game on hard (I suggest you make a copy of it first, only to have a save with every stage unlocked on normal). This time it worked like a new game+ with all the areas already unlocked and listing my previous normal mode scores so I could aim to beat them.

The first stage didn't have the tutorial, the cars you have to jump in that small area where you star weren't there either. Also, some different enemies (with weapons) right from the start + no respawning enemies in that second area where XIII asks you to score some points to open the gate and proceed. The Katana appeared inside two new breakable normal boxes during the stage, one at the entrance of the metro, the other at the bathroom on the second floor.

I've only replayed the first stage by now (two times in sequence, to try different stuff and raise my score) but to anyone else interested who's not aware of this:

  • You don't have to beat the entire game again to replay the stages on hard. If you want a "new game+" of sorts on hard (or normal) with every stage unlocked from the start so you can tackle then in any order you want + the high scores from your previous playthrough, select the same save data where you beat the game, it will then prompt you to select normal or hard. Make sure you copy this clear data to another slot first because it only asks you once about selecting the difficulty, otherwise it will autosave and you'll have to beat the final boss one more time in whatever difficulty you choose to be prompted with the option again on that save.

  • If you simply want to start a new game from scratch on hard with the default high scores and having to beat everything in sequence again from stage 1, just use a blank save slot after you beat the game once on normal, then choose "hard". I don't think the unlockable weapons will show on the stages this way, I'm not sure though.

And some little things:

-If you shake the nunchuk at the exact time of certain moves from enemies, Jack will do a slow-mo side dodge that puts you behind them instead of the backflip. Very useful against the "mid bosses" (like the bulls, drillers, etc).

-The punch attack you can do during a backflip is a good way of breaking the grunts defending stance, opening them for the normal A combo (useful for hard mode).

I wanted to mention some stuff something and I apologize if it has already been said. Also, I have two questions as well. These questions relate to the DW slots at the bottom of the screen as well as what appear to be hidden DW challenges. The other thing is about an alternative A button finisher move.

In the Castle court yard, if you toss a zombie on each of the spikes in the fountain, the water will turn to blood. My question is, are there more of these hidden death watch challenges in other stages ?

What are those icon slots that appear on the bottom of the screen where it says DW for ?
I managed to fill them up one time and while I don't remember how, nothing seemed to happen after having filled them up. I just assumed it was for achieving big combos.

I didn't know this until after beating the game for the 4th time. If you continue to beat up on an enemy using only the A button to punch with, continuing to press A after the QTE finisher attack icon appears on screen, Jack will do a super punch finisher move launching the enemy across the screen.

This QTE super punch finisher move seems to be random because I've done it before and some times Jack will instead perform a slow-motion punck/kick that kills the enemy. If I remember correctly, this other move doesn't require the QTE icon to appear on the screen.

My gameplay length for finished games varies between 4-7 hours long.

Yes there are, they usually tell you at the beginning of the stage what the goal is to fill the slots

Sometimes it appears at the bottom of the screen what to do to fill them as well

Those are the DW Challenges (collect three bull heads in Asia Town, put signs in the driller in Dungeon, etc), they open up new items from what i can remember (or mondo bonus points after the level is completed). Just like above they usually tell you what the DW challenge is at the beginning of the level during the rundown of how many points you need to get everything

For those that beat the game, I have a question.

From looking at an FAQ, I saw that
you go from the Casino strip, to a mini-boss collection battle, and then onto BB.
Now, is that all in one stage, as in, do I have to do one after the other? Or does the game break up the final boss from
the Casino strip and mini-boss collection battle
. I don't have a large amount of time on my hands right at this moment, and I don't want to have to do that all in one shot, I'd like to be able to save at some point.

Hopefully my wording isn't too akward.

Strip stage is separate from miniboss gauntlet and final boss.

Unfortunately, when I was playing the first stage in hard mode, my game crashed. Completely locked up, and I had to unplug my Wii to reset it.

Weird.

Thanks markatisu. I'll have to pay more attention.

I figured out the one for the military base stage. Very easy.

Frank usually gives me a hard time as well even on normal mode. I typically die 1-2 times usually because Frank
swats me down with his fist into the water after failing to perform the QTE move in time or I'll get zapped by the electricity.

This happened to me 2. Screen went black and stayed that way, until i said to myself, "How long do I have to stare at this black fucking screen!" Just hold down the power button on the wii for 10 seconds I think and it will reset w/out having to unplug. Both ways work so whatever. The game has froze on me twice so far.

I didn't have too much of a problem with
Frank. Getting swatted into the water wasn't so bad considering with the right timing you could avoid getting electrocuted.

But I did just beat the game, and I really liked it. I'm not one to replay games, but I also rarely complain about a game's length as long as I enjoyed it. And MadWorld was very much an enjoyed experience.

I recommend this game to the world.

so I keep reading spoilers and stuff about ppl having problems with a boss??

I beat that boss, he was easy.

so... just in case u guys didnt know... you know you can dodge right???

just give the nunchuck a little nudge backwards and you technically do a back hand spring, but done in reaction to an enemy attack causes you to dodge and puts you in position to counter attack

...hate me...
tbh I think this game is getting good exposure and it's distinct enough to hmmm... maybe even the casual crowed pick it up?

I don't know, but I did my part. Now I wait for Friday.

JEKKI said:

yeah, there's a lot of people here who had trouble with him. I found him easy too, til I fought him on hard mode.... hoo boy. about the dodging, if you don't attack at the right time the game won't let you dodge; even if you're flicking the nunchuk, he can hit you while you're in the attack animation. That, plus the large amount of damage he deals when electrifying the water, plus the fact that he can regain life is what makes him hard for most people

I reached the castle yesterday and
Death Scythe or what ever his name is, fucked me up twice. So when I went up against the Shamans I had no fucking lives left. Bastard I'll have to try again today.

I HAVE NO FUCKING LUCK

When I pre-ordered Killzone 2 from shopto.net, all my friends pre-ordered it from dvd.co.uk. Result? Shopto dispatched their game by Thursday or something and I didn't get it until the week after launch (games use to launch by Fridays here on euroland). Meanwhile dvd.co.uk posted theirs by fucking Tuesday and the orders took 2 fucking days to travel between the UK and portugal here, so my friends got theirs by Thursday, one day before launch.

So, I learned my lesson and pre-ordered MadWorld from dvd.co.uk right? Turns out that today is Wednesday and they still haven't dispatched my order even though they claim they have it in stock. By the time they'll dispatch it, it will never reach here before the weekend. FUCK THIS FUCKING SHIT I HATE MY LIFE

Some pretty big criticism of this game on the latest giantbomb podcast, I love the game but I can't say I disagree with everything he (Jeff Gerstmann) said.

I don't even know what he said but Jeff Gerstmann is a fucking twat. He's a professional Wii troll.

Jeff Gerstmann bashed a Wii game, I know everyone else here is as shocked as I am at that news :lol
I reached the castle yesterday

Just do not get grabbed by the zombies, also a tip for Shamans is to use the fire torch if you have it (you can light the smaller dogs on fire to kill them) and then make damn sure you do the motions the QTE asks you. I have found the sideways ones are easy but the up and down QTE requires almost 100% accuracy and timing

Try to get some health open and not have to use it, there are at least 3 spots health comes up if you are playing the level long enough

^ as he summons the 2 wolves during the QTE, you can tell if its going to be a vertical or horizontal motion before the prompt appears based on how they are positioned as they attack you.

Good tip, I guess I never looked at that just felt lucky to get more sideways then up and down

Giving the wolves a good whack with a cut down tree works great too.

yup, I use the trees on the wolf minions as well. they keep their distance from you, but the tree is long enough to just hit them anyway, and it takes them down in 1 shot. only downside is that it'll break after 3 whacks.

when i fought him he always did down.

thats a good idea i just used the horizontal chain saw slash on them and it worked fine

This thread's pace makes me sad. The Valkyria Chronicles thread moved faster than this, and still gets posts. I'm hoping things ramp up once the rest of the world gets MW.

Things will probably move a bit more when it gets released around all of Europe next week, right now its US only and the various EU countries who have imported or gotten an early copy (like in Belgium)

Maybe we're just playing it more? :lol

Well I got my shirt from the guys at Platinum Games and Sega. They asked to take a picture, so hopefully I can post one tonight.

I'm hoping for a sequel. It would be a lot of fun to up the pace a bit and allow for a longer series of kills for a point multiplier, sort of like Tony Hawk but with murder.

annnnnd here come the police.

Just in case anyone was wondering, this is what the stickers looked like from the Triumvir contest a few weeks back

There are 9 of each sticker included in the pack I got

I've been kind confused about this thread's popularity. It seemed like this was one of those huge Wii games that everyone was talking about. And here we are, and there hasn't been too much talk.

Is it a game that doesn't warrant a ton of talk? Someone mentioned Tony Hawk, and maybe that's the reason this thread's been a little bare. Perhaps it's a bit tougher to discuss a point based game, something like Geometry Wars. It's kind of tough to make an entertaining post about my 10 minute score-attack.

I've loved the game, but it's been tough for me to think of things to say.

I'm not going to say this thread is a showing of the game's selling strength, despite the narrative it's a hard game to go on and on about.
