@sly: we knew that already :P. Well, at least I did ;). There was a small screenshot of the Disney Castle on one of the scans.

@Zaxxon: no knew games... Well, at least they didn't want to show any new games.

@SolidSnakex, sly: please, links, or 56k will hate you forever :lol . Also, that's the girl singing the FFXII theme song? She looks cute :). Wonder how's the song...

More photos of the party

Even more photos!

Something regarding FFXI for PS2/PC and the party - translations?

About 25,000 people visited the party on the first day.

Does that mean the heartless would take over the castle?

July 30, 2005 - The Xbox 360 has a slight presence at the Square Enix Party 2005, set to run until Sunday in a dank convention center just outside of Tokyo. Square Enix placed the Microsoft platform on display in a large area devoted to Final Fantasy XI. While most kiosks in this area were for the Windows version of the game, one kiosk was connected to an Xbox 360 unit and was occasionally played by the Square Enix staff, its game content shown to the audience via a high definition monitor.

Sadly, IGN did not get a chance to try out the Xbox 360 version of Final Fantasy XI at the event. In fact, the Xbox 360 version was not made available for play to anyone except for the lucky few Square Enix staff members deemed worthy.

Are those the first screens ever released of Code Age? I only remember hearing about this game before, not actually seeing it.

Anyway, the graphics excite me at least. Looks very crisp, colorful...it really looks like an anime, especially in the battles. Square-Enix definitely know how to give games an animated look without using cel-shading (or maybe it IS using some kind of cel-shading technique?)...I think it looks awesome. Don't know much about the game itself though.

Yeah, code-age certainly appears to be using a new technique, quite unique. I'm interested in how it plays.

there is no one better than square at texturing\modeling. period.

I second that. Even if a SE game sucks it still always looks damn professional. These games look supersweet. Can't wait to see how they play.

I just don't get Square Enix at all. Chrono Cross and Parasite Eve both sold WELL, there's DEMAND FOR THEM. Yet they ignore it! RAAAAAAAARGH! *smashes keyboard*

Is there a possibility we will be getting any more info in from this event?

Or is this the only info we will get? Is the event even over?

Tommorow is the second day of the event. Probably no new info will surface... But still, we're waiting for it ;). And soon after the biggest news sites (IGN, and stuff) should post new information from the Japanese trailers at the show.

That World of Mana trailer sounds exactly like the one that was shown at E3....

.... how is that revealing anything at all?

I want to see the new FF12 trailer!!
http://ps2.ign.com/articles/637/637985p1.html

The game is clearly nearing completion, though. Outside of the demo area, Square Enix unveiled a new trailer, showcasing the close relationship between Ashe and Vaan, some massive air battles, and what appears to be a city floating in the sky (we even caught a glimpse of what appears to be a dance number involving Ashe). The potential for a dramatic storyline is high with this one! Square Enix also announced the Japanese release date for the game, 3/16/2006, and gave a sneak peak at the game's theme song.

i wonder, does this mean multiple different mana games on different consoles, or one mana online universe playable from multiple versions of the same game, i.e. 360 playing with ds playing with ps3 etc?
the very IGN article you quoted said:
Rather than just one title, we can look forward to multiple titles across multiple genres and on multiple platforms.
As I've said before, in all likelihood "World of Mana" isn't one game; it's the umbrella name for the new "polymorphic content" vision of Mana. I bet anything it'll be like Compilation of FFVII -- the new Mana on DS, a PS2 game, and other stuff.

I wanna see it :( Where are all the gameplay movies?

No more screen shattering
no more random battles
bigger towns/dungdeons
new battle system

that's about it I think

yeah, thank god, I was afraid they'd change it back to the old style to please the fans

Thank goodness they eliminated the random battles. This should make exploration much more interesting... for me at least.

hell yeah bring it on!

to bad we have to wait for this game to arrive in the states

Damn...that IGN impression link sounds great...glad they didn't fuck up the battle system in order to appease to gamers stuck in the 8-bit days

I'm glad that Matsuno is still directing, and the game still seems true to its original vision. I'm no fan of FFXI, but XII's battle system still looks good to me. What will seperate XII from XI (or any other MMORPG for that matter) is that XII will have a real story (most likely a killer one since it's Matsuno) and the pace of character advancement in XII won't be ridiculously slow.

The delay kinda sucks, but there are enough good-looking games coming out this fall and winter to probably keep me busy until it comes out. DQVIII and Oblivion alone will probably eat up a couple months worth of my gaming time each.

This is an ignorant, ignorant statement. FFXI doesn't have a real storyline? Jesus... GTFO. Seriously, GTFO with that shit. FFXI has a great storyline through the original game, and it's expansions that connects the world together. The NPCs, the Avaters, the magic, EVERYTHING in the fucking game is connected and has a part in the main storyline. That's a truly ignorant statement. :lol

Datrio: This FFXI event you linked to is a special fight versus 3 of the game's famous NPCs. Sandy's Prince Trion, Bastok's Volker, and Windy's Ajido. Players at the event will be able to fight in a special battle against all 3, or vs a team of two of them together. Looks really cool =O

On topic: FFXII overworld still looks like it's ripped from FFXI style. =O

The only problem with FFXI's 'great' story is that it requires a retarded amount of time dedicated to playing the game to experience it in a coherent, flowing manner. My example- if you don't have the time to dedicate 10 hours a day and/or have a regular, dependable party to level and mission with, it might be a week between any significant story elements. I don't know about you, but that kind of span really bothered me- mostly because I would forget what the last serious story moment was even about.

Granted, this is a MMORPG, so no one who plays them regularly really cries over someone that can't dedicate a lot of time to them, but still, I'd be curious to see the ratio of people who have played FFXI that have actually experienced even a portion of the overall story.

I played from October 2003 until August 2004... and I really couldn't tell you shit about what FFXI's story was 'suppose' to be.

Your complaint is about the MMORPG mechanic, not a fault of the story persay. Granted, to advance, you do need to have a certain level to go on and contribute with the fights, however, this does not detract from the ignorance of your statement. FFXI does have a very good story that encompasses the entire world around it. If you can't tell me shit about the story, you really aren't qualified to make any statements about it, are you?

Edit: By the by, how is leveling up to advance the story different from any other FFs in FFXI? True, it takes more time, but it IS a MMORPG afterall. However, it's absolurely NO different that any other RPG in the fact that a) you need to lvl up to advance and b) you need a party (whether it's real people or NPC characters) to do it. Besides the obvious fact one uses the MMORPG mechanics, there's no difference. :D

calm down there, chief. No reason to get punchy.

I'm simply saying, in defense to chaostrophy, that most people outside the 'hardcore' FFXI players will never know the true extent of the game's story. Jumping on his ass because of that is uncalled for- and jumping on mine shows you to be a bit 'fanatical' from my point of view.

but anyway... please, more info from this goddamn event! Videos!

Wasn't uncalled for. Wasn't any different than any other RPG thread where someone says something untrue about a game (and insults it as well), and someone corrects them. ^^ Regardless of who can access what in FFXI's story isn't important, the fact is it has a great story, whether you worked through the game or not. It's there, all there is to it. If you don't know anything bout a story, any story, how are you qualified to make any statements about it? Let alone insult it. Just setting yourself up there.

Fanatical? We're on a gaming forum man. 99% of the posters here are fanatical. Welcome!

well, maybe we can get one of the 5 people that knows FFXI's extended story to come in here and back you up......

I'd be anxious. I'd love to hear what the story actually is suppose to be, since I feel my 10 months with the game was a pretty big cock-tease as far as a story actually forming.

Instead of sitting on your MMORPG throne and tossing out the 'ignorant' label, why not educate us? That would be greatly appreciated.
