The Official Trackmania United thread

An explanation from valve on Starforce:

"The Steam version of TrackMania United is protected by Steam and not Starforce. Starforce is used by Focus for protection of TrackMania United's game specific data. The Steam version of Track Mania United does not include the copy protection drivers from Starforce. Therefore, any issues that might be associated with the copy protection drivers in Starforce do not apply in this case."

Which is more or less what I said before, but now it has a big ole Valve stamp of approval next to it.

No excuses.

Quoted for "this needs more attention".

So, there's no need to worry one bit. Just go and pre-order the game.

currently for a 24$ pre-order for US or 39$ for European folk.

Showing up as $23.95 + $4.19 tax for me with a UK address. If I make up some bogus address in the US I get it tax free :lol

would I be able to register my current united key in steam so I don;t have to worry about starforce and be able to use steam friends?

Hasn't been said.

It's possible, but don't hold your breath.

i was under the impression that tm united has a new version of starforce that doesn't install anything on your computer. oh well.. either way it is still pretty bad, i had to update my dvd-drive's firmware to get pass the disc check.

anyway if there are any "demostyle" (tracks from the sunrise island demo, aka NOT EXTREME tracks.. no loops, red boosters etc dumb track parts :P) fans in gaf i have a server dedicated to them :o

You're thinking about the already-released versions. As has been posted several times now, the Steam version includes no Starforce copy protection.

I'm basically sold, but is there anything else that can further sell me on this game ? (Besides the three videos already shown, which are awesome)

There are free demos lying around for the previous games. They'll sell you on the franchise's gameplay pretty quick if you liked what you saw in the videos.

What Frag said. There's the Trackmania Sunrise/Original demos as well as Trackmania: Nations which is more or less fully featured, but lacks a good portion of blocks that were added in TM:U.

I've only played TM Nations, and I got really into that for awhile. Besides it just being fun because of how crazy it was, I had a lot of fun trying to beat other peoples' times as well as my own.

I got Sunrise in a trade awhile back, but I never played it. I think I was burned out on Nations. Getting TMU for $25 seems like a good way to get back into the TM universe.

I just purchased my copy today on Steam. Pre-loading it for release on the 14th.

Does anyone know the size of the preload?

I don't know how Steam does this, but when I got the game from Nadeo's site, the executable was 876MB. Install size on my PC is 1.22GB

"Yep. You can also make custom car models, if I'm not mistaken."

That is correct.

Do custom models also work online? I'd imagine that everyone would have to download your model in order to see it.

Yes they do and they don't have to download to see it, it transfers in the background pretty quickly and seamlessly, similar to racing a track you've never played before.

I'm trying to track down the supported resolutions (and am getting skunked in google). Before I order, I wanna confirm it supports wide screen.

I would assume yes, but this is one game that I only wanna play on the HDTV. So widescreen support is essential.

I just pulled the trigger.

Sold off my 4 year old gaming mid-range pc on Ebay (motherboard, processor, ram, videocard) for an absurd net profit of 180 dollars (after ebay and paypal).

Problem is, I've now decided to wait till the 1333FSB processors with the new steppings coming out on July 22 before I finish buying the rest of my new PC parts. So it's gonna sit unused till then, but couldn't resist at that price.

Hey developers/publishers: Wanna get me to buy more digital games that aren't published by Valve? Give me a discount like this. I don't pay retail for digital copies. I either want a nice discount, or I'll buy the box edition.

It supports widescreen.

What jet1911 said. It also supports a few 5:4 or 16:10 ones.

Will Trackmania United be playable at midnight tonight or is it way later tomorrow? I have it pre-loaded, pre-paid, and ready to play. I waannnanannaananan pllaaaayyyayayayaya!

I will vouch for this. If you don't have resolutions in pc games make sure it's in the system via powerstrip or sometype of driver tweaker. My monitor is 16:10 and I had to do this with TM before I could get it to look right on my GDM.

nations looked just awesome on my HDTV. i'll probably pick up united at some point, but now is not that point with RE4:Wii and The Darkness just around the corner, and a couple of games still on my plate.

I joined. What does it do exactly? Is there any way to interact with the group? It just shows up in groups in my profile. I dont see any functionality apart from that.

I haven't actually played the game yet, but I believe the groups are mainly used for time tracking and such. You can see the fastest times within your groups and I believe you can download their race data and try to beat their times. It's something like that, but someone feel free to correct me if I am wrong.

When you go into Solo or Multiplayer mode, if you click "World" it will then switch to one of your groups where you can see all their times, download replays, etc. etc.
