The Official Trackmania United thread

"Still trying to get my head around how the whole regioning system works; I might drop in on the GAF group if it'll let me despite being on the opposite side of the world. For now, though, I'm happy with the SP game..."

ManiaZones (the regioning thing) only uses your region for purposes of solo/multiplayer ladders. It won't affect joining the group and due to how the MP works, lag doesn't affect multiplayer either.

I just bought TU, and well it doesn't work very well on my PC. The game stutters so much that it's virtually unplayable. The thing is that my PC should be able to handle the game without any problems. I've tried to change the graphics options, but it doesn't matter if I have the highest or lowest setting possible, the game still stutters.

Please don't tell me I just wasted 50$ on this unplayable mess :(

What are your specs? Have you tried updating your drivers for your graphics card?

Pentium4 3,4 GHz
1024 MB RAM
ATI Radeon X850 XT

Not the best, but I used to play Trackmania Sunrise without any problems. Will try to update the drivers, though :)

I second Agent Ice's driver update recommendation. If you ran TM:Sunrise well, you should be able to run TMU with similar fidelity and performance.

A big thanks to Agent Icebeezy (and Teknopathetic)! Updating the drivers did the trick, the game runs smoothly now :)

Cool beans, join the clan, see you online! :D

It is only set up to detect the retail version, not the Steam one. :(

Also, they still don't have support for Galciv2 : Dark Avatar, but every free shitty Korean MMO gets a entry added immediately. Lame!

Hm, well I hope they update it. It shows other Steam games afterall. I'd like some people to ask me wtf I'm playing.

It takes a while to explain to people why this isn't just another racing game.

I have a small ~50 MB replay I just made. Nothing special, just the first time I tried a new level and liking how I navigated the course.

Are there any good file upload sites? I don't want something like youtube because the video is encoded in DivX 720p @ 60fps and I don't want to lose that.

As it is...I'm uploading it to Megaupload

If anyone was thinking about getting the "map contest" pack that's listed on the in-game news, be advised that there aren't any official missions for any of them, so you can't get ranks on them in solo play. Caveat emptor, I guess.

If it's divx, why not upload it to Stage6?

stage 6 didn't seem to like it...I'll massage it a bit

Here's the megaupload link though:

http://www.megaupload.com/?d=MHRAB1PC

nothing in the way of crazy driving skills or an insane track...just me alone driving around a course for the first time and actually not failing...thought it was cause for celebration

Great game so far. It's a bit of a bummer playing with minimal details and at 800x600, but it's to be expected since I'm only running an ATI X200 integrated graphics chipset. I'm in the GAF list as "Javaman". Interesting enough, the first challenge I attempted was free, but after that it cost 10 coins. Is that normal? From my understanding it would be necessary to pay the 10 coins with even the first scored attempt.

1/2 way done with the stage6 upload...divx wanted me to reboot and then I had some problems of my own so sorry for the delay

regarding official times - I didn't quiet grasp how you were supposed to post them until I wanted to quit the game, which (surprisingly) was after a few hours. I've gotten 1 gold on my first attempt and #4 out of all of Florida in 2 others IIRC

I just wish there was an easier way to get coins. Also, I'm a huge fan of the race mode.

you know...didn't realize that trackmania united was different than sunrise.

i think i like sunrise better.

though getting my ass kicked online is a lot of fun.

You can easily import all of the Sunrise tracks into United. They'll look and play exactly the same.

well i only played the demo, and that struck me as something more in line which what i was expecting, as in circular track racing, not segment

this strikes me as an attempt to replicate rally segment racing.

it's enjoyable, but it's just not what i was expecting after having played sunrise's demo

Cool video, really shows off the beauty of the game with the settings up. What did you use to record it?
Trackmania's own replay feature. There's an option inside the replay menu that lets you export your replays as movies.

The only settings changed between this and how I play the game is that I play with no AA and the AA is maxed in this video. I also play at 1680x1050 and this is 1280x720

Nice, I didn't know you could do that. I'm toying with it now.

Well it's pretty much got sunrise in it. I agree though, that's my favorite car/track style. The hard part is finding a server specializes in those tracks.

btw, I have a quick question. When you're editing tracks, how do you get the arrow signs? I only have the red square ones. I imagine there's a way to change the textures on it, but alas, I don't know it.

I think it'd be really awesome if someone made an official TM editing thread, so we could share tips and finished maps. I'd love to do it, but I lost my posting priviledges. :(

I always choke and screw up massively when going for official times.

I've come up with quite a nice one, but it's got a few elements of My First Track to it, and there's certain angles where the framerate just plummets, I think I need to rework it a bit.

What framerate do you have the game running at?

Man, if I could re-figure out how I add tracks to the game (since I've changed from using Servermania to just the regular dedicated server to run the server) I'd put some stuff Agent Ice suggested and Nascar 2 into the rotation. It was so much easier to do this with Onyx, but Onyx was kiiiiiiiiiinda sluggish.

Just picked this one up, very nice game. Look for perryfarrell if anybody wants to play a few games (I haven't tried the online part yet).

im gonna buy this game tomorrow, I usually hate buying things on Steam, thats why I held off.

I assume a 360 controller is great to play this game with, or is it made with keyboard in mind?

360 controller is great for this game, but if you plan on using the triggers for gas and brakes then you will want to install XBCD drivers if you haven't already.

what are those drivers? im taking a wild guess, but do they let you hit both L/R at the same time?

FYI, for those earlier talking about Xfire and TMU-Steam, you can click "Profile" (in game) and advanced to see your playtime in solo/multiplayer mode, most played tracks yada yada.

Another FYI, I'm contemplating changing the server control software (again), I hate having to check back in every 3-4 hours to turn ASECO back on. :-/ Downside is Onyx is mad sluggish. If I decided to come back, current records won't be gone forever, but they won't be shown.

Done. I've also found the NeoGAF happy hour server. My ping is 300, though. I guess ping matters less with a game like this than with FPSs, still very high though.

This game kicks ass, buy it people! Just one click away ;-)

Please tell me why you like this game, I get the community aspect, that's fab, but the driving is so horrible, your car is so sporadic and the controls are finnecky; keyboard is too much tapping and pad is too sensitive.

Did anyone use to play MultiTheftAuto San Andreas? It was a race only mod of San Andreas with custom built tracks and planes and boats and bikes and stuff. Seems like 100x better than this.

Please help me find the switch to make my car control well.
