The Official Trackmania United thread

It's live! Go have a blast!

There's a dedicated server I set up that I can't guarantee will ALWAYS 100% be up, but hey.

It's called NeoGAF Happy Hour. Sorta low on tracks at the moment, but there's a jukebox feature to add tracks directly from Tm-exchange.com

awesome game

I found a small glitch using the 360 pad tho (or mebbe i did something wrong) I have analog steering (left stick) accelrate on the right trigger (even tho its not analog I think) and brake on B, however if I hit B with the trigger held down it wont stop braking even if I let go of B unless I release the trigger

so when I brake its *turn, let off gas, brake, let on gas*

im just used to *turn, hold down gas and feather brake*

otherwise awesome game!

its like san francisco rush on crack.

I just started playing now and joined the GAF group.

I have a question. How do I enable official mode in single player? I keep racing but it doesn't earn me any coppers. This game is confusing with all the menus and what not.

Also when I click on manialink from the main menu it just loads and doesn't show any signs of stopping. Is it meant to take a long time?

To attempt an official race, start a regular race as normal. When you get to the starting line, use the mouse to click the little trophy icon in the upper left corner of the screen.

As for the Manialink problems, I don't really know. Might be a firewall issue, as it was working fine for me 5 minutes ago (loaded within 1 second).

I have my buttons remapped to my controller, but this is the screen you want to see for set an official time.

I got manialink to work now, it was just going slow. However I don't have the little trophy icon in solo mode. I can see it in the screen posted here but not in my game.

Another question, how do I make a custom avatar instead of the little smilie faces?

You can't set official times on the easiest tracks. Any level above those has the option available.

ahh that'd be it. I was starting at the beginning. thanks

Any idea how to do the avatar? I'd imagine there to be an avatar editor etc.

A couple of questions about the car editor. How to you add images from your computer to use as stickers on your car? How do you manually paint the car with a brush? I clicked the manual brush bit but when I click on the car it doesn't paint.....

I had the same problem, only way I know to fix it is to install the XBCD 360 drivers, then you can make the triggers digital buttons.

You can get it here http://xbcd360guide.50webs.com/

Downloaded the game today and I'm loving it~ I played Nations for a few months when it came out, and seeing this for such a great deal was irresistable! I joined the GAF group too.

I have one question to start with, though - when you're editing your car, how do you rotate the stickers and stuff that you put on them? It's driving me nuts. :)

This game is so crazy! How do you guys in the gaf group get those amazing times?!

Get some coppers and download some faster player's ghost, learn the lines of the track.

I was playing on the GAF Happy Hour server, very fun even though I really suck. My profile is scg.

How do I find the GAF Happy Hour Server?

Also can the Group Admin change the group logo? We don't have one. Here's one I made that you can use:

(it's the right size)

Just head to http://www.maniazones.com/ and login to access group admin functions.

Trying to beat the GAF times on the Solo tracks now, really starting to hate the jackknifing desert car.

Also how do I get other players' custom cars and skins to show up? They show up as gray cars for me.

I found the GAF server by going in multiplayer and clicking on US.

This game is like the love child of F-Zero and Outrun.

I've looked at so many tutorials, why doesn't any one of them tell me how to import stickers?

nvm found my answer on some obscure forum

Can you tell me the answer? Also any idea how to rotate skins?

The GAF Happy Hour server is great :D

ok, find image, convert to bmp using paint, convert to dds and tga (using dxt to bmp converter, google it), put dds and tga into a created folder with your sticker name on it in the painter/stickers folder in your trackmania directory, put tga and dds file into that folder, rename to sticker.tga and icon.dds, and it should appear in your sticker directly.

hold down s to rotate stickers.

OK, Good news bad news time about the server.

Bad news: All the records from yesterday are gone-zo.

Good news: The new remote control stuff is significantly easier to use, including a (working!) way to add tracks in-game, and a much easier way too. If you click on the Onyx tab on the left of the screen, then click TMX, you can actually search in-game for tracks by name or author and add it right there. Much, much, much easier.

There's also a copper donation and copper lottery plugins of questionable competency, but we shall see.

This game is totally awesome. I was actually sort of surprised to see that there weren't more people online-I figured that the Steam release would be wildly popular for this sort of game.

I think I played for like eight or nine hours yesterday. Mutliplayer is fun (but HARD, I played on some duder's map and it was like impossible for anyone but him to finish) on Teknopathetic's server and the game plays really well in MP. The greatest thing were all the user-made levels: they, like the rest of the game, had this awesome demoscene-like flair to them and getting them loaded into the server seemed really easy.

The singleplayer is challenging and fun. I dunno if I like some of the balancing things (paying 10 coppers to make one attempt at an official time is harsh!) but the tracks are great and there's a TON of single-player content in the game, and that's not even including downloaded challenges (which are cool, I tried a couple and they were fun).

Teknopathetic- It seems like 24 tracks is just about right for a good server rotation-this would allow five minutes per track, with repeats occuring every two hours. Also, you might want to cap the server to nine or ten people, and slap a password on it at prime time hours.

Great suggestion, I already capped it this morning.. Setting a password is easy enough, too.

And false alarm about losing records, I went back to the old server control script, so everything's peachy dandy.

Some commands for everyone: /list -- shows all the tracks in rotation. /add -- adds a track to be played once from tm-exchange.com, you need to know the ID number. /gg, /lol, /lool, /bb -- you can figure these out.

/jukebox # (from /list) to play a track in the rotation.

Also, if you want to restart or skip a challenge you can press escape, then advanced options to callvote for the next map or a restart. (I think the command is also /callvote next, /callvote restart)

/callvote kick/ban if no admin (i.e. me) is around.

I'd also like to note that there is a "Bet" button on the little panel everyone has that'll let you bet on yourself (with coppers.) Sorta useless, but more coppers is always awesome.

And I dunno if no one was playing. I mean, the GAF group more than doubled, and the server, so far as I could see, was about maxxed out the entire night. There's also people choosing to play on euro servers.

Purchased this game last night - it's the first TM game I've ever been able to play, so I'm still getting used to it. Just got off the GAF Happy Hour server, it's a lot of fun. My only gripe thus far is as was already stated above - some of the custom tracks are just way too ambitious/confusing. There have been several I played on between last night and this morning that I can't even get around once! I'm sure things will get better/more clear for me over time though. Anyway, great game, I'm really having a good time with it so far, and I'll see you guys on later!

So I've been playin' for the last couple days, but the game isn't showing up in my Xfire profile.

What's with that? Xfire associates with like every game ever.

It is only set up to detect the retail version, not the Steam one. :(

Also, they still don't have support for Galciv2 : Dark Avatar, but every free shitty Korean MMO gets a entry added immediately. Lame!

Finally signed up; loved the demo ages ago, but Starforce put me off trying the full thing

Still trying to get my head around how the whole regioning system works; I might drop in on the GAF group if it'll let me despite being on the opposite side of the world. For now, though, I'm happy with the SP game...
