Cody's too fucking safe and he deals good damage and he can even FADC to ultra.

Basically, Cody's the new better Ryu.

Initial reaction to Cody was: meh,Cody... :lol

Now theres a lot of people from GAF or otherwise who will try him of course.I can definitively see that he will be among the most popular character in super, but I expect a surge of Ken as well.I think I saw someone combo into ultra 2 from a jumping f.k,so it shouldnt be too hard to link into his U2 thus I expect a lot of scrubs back on the flametrain. :lol

"I'm kind of bummed Cody is the new hotness by all accounts. I was hoping he'd be lower tier and unappreciated so I could use him without feeling like a samey Scrototwat."

Fuck letting what other people play affect your own enjoyment.

HA HA.

Ehhh.. if you like his style of gameplay, play him.

The reason I don't use Ryu or Sagat in vanilla despite their OPness is because I don't like their playstyle at all.

The only character in SF4 that really interested me was Fuerte and Claw.
Thanks to SSF4, I might actually branch out to Guy and Claw again since Claw's supposedly better now.

We'll see. I may not dig how he plays.

Personally though, I have always preferred taking a character with the odds stacked against them and making it work. :)

Not sure about the specifics of tiers, but it was always fun beating some scroto back in the arcade in SF3 with Necro when the game was new. Instead of gravitating to the familiar I want to try new / different stuff.

That said, there will be plenty of "unpopular" characters, always way it will be. So I'm not at a loss.

you can do those jumping hp/hk into ultra links with most of the characters... its just stupid to do them in a serious match.

another tid bit from that stream
the damage from Honda's heabutt has been reduced...
as seen on Sagat's life bar.

I think it is a fair trade for increased usability vs reducing the high damage

a nerf for a buff

Just wondering, is there a reason you don't SJC Chun's Houyokusen?
Or do you just like have the opponent on the floor?
As you could see I've pretty much never used Makoto in my life haha.

Let your play style dictate your character interest, not their art design or tier, and you'll have the most fun. Remember, games are played! Not pictures to be looked at, or stories to be read.

Seems like 80% of people are playing Cody :lol

When he was reveled I was one of very few who was hyping him up among the haters. Now Cody is rainy day in frog city.
Bewagon jumpers piss me off. :P

I'm happy Ryu got nerfed now, maybe I'll get to play him when the Ryu&Sagat army deserts to Dudley.

I know what you mean. But how many people here represent the S/SFIV community? I don't think its too much to be worried about.

The funny thing is, I pick who I like almost in a vacuum. I usually have no idea what the internets say and I pick them based on if their design/name speaks to me. Coincidentally it seems my fav chars from past iterations will be the business in SSIV. I does kinda annoy me.

I will say I like playing with characters people usually don't touch. That's why I loved playing with Seth. He has some pretty awesome mind games...

Sadly, that only works when you have a defined playstyle/are aware that you do. :/

Easiest way to know this is by checking out the videos of top players playing characters you're interested in.

If you think what they're doing seems fun for you, then you've found some playstyles you want to try out.

I just hope Ryu loses his POS status (Popular, Overpowered, and Scrubby)

Played SF4 a bit last night- 20 straight Ryus. Nothing else.

As always I will go with characters I think look cool.

So:

HOKAN!

I hope this doesn't end like Vanessa in VF4. She looked awesome, but her move set required I burn too many calories to pick her up, so I went with Wolf instead. AWOOOOOOOOOOO!!! :P

Yeah, the Cody impressions and the amount of people around the web claiming to jump to him is a bit disheartening, I already had him, T. Hawk, Dee Jay, Hakan, Makoto and possibly Guy and Adon listed as my serious playtime characters since the initial leak...

I hate to be following the crowd, which is why I'm not even going to mess with Dudley or Ibuki since my Street Fighter circle already have guys that mained those two in SFIII...

I'm also the only one that I know in my group that mains or even touches Dee Jay or T. Hawk so those two I'll be fine with - playing with Cody now despite using him in Alpha is gonna seem like I'm hopping onto to the ship, which sucks, but f that noise, still gonna use him anyways...

He's still going to be pretty damn good in the right hands with his links and fireballs, but Capcom managed to stick it to him with the DP damage reduction, which I never really noticed that it needed reducing - Cammy and Sagat are more known for theirs, but even they got hit a bit too hard with the reductions...

Just watched this SSF IV combo exhibition video and i have gotta say, Juri's taunt is the most sexy thing I have seen in a fighting game yet :lol.
I can already see this taunt being done 10 times a match by Juri users

The asian guy with the white glasses made me go crazy watching that video. I wish he hadn't even been put on the show. The guy whispered, mumbled, and could barely make a freaking point. To add to his overall fail he kept scratching his arm like the whole time...does he have fleas or what's up?

All in all a pointless vid to watch. Just reconfirms for the 100th time everything we already know about the game. Thanks for posting though just wish they had gone into more specifics about the new characters.

Likely nervous, and I don't think English was his first language.

But yeah it looked like Gamespot AU brought those guys in, gave them maybe a couple hours to play, and wanted the same level of in depth discussion American pros have been giving based on a whole lot more time with the game.

I've actually never taken much time to really learn 3S. The most I've done is look up some Ibuki stuff in preparation of Super.

So with what we know of SSF4 so far, here's my observations on game balance:

Sagat deals less, takes more. This is the best change they could have done. This makes Sagat fair now, barring all new characters he is still top tier within the original cast. The fact you cannot trade ultra off DP's already makes Ryu and Sagat such better matchups for everyone. Honestly, I probably ate 75% off non-FADC ultras from these two, and thank god they changed this.

I feel like from the changes I've read so far, the original SF4 tier looks something like this. Sagat and Ryu brought down to Rufus/Boxer/Akuma/Viper/Gief level. Ken and Chun Li could also potentially rise to this tier or the tier below. Rose and Dan rise to the new A tier which is the old B tier of Abel/Honda/Dictator/Fuerte/etc.

In other words, I'm saying calling the S tier the old A tier including S, A tier the new B tier, and so forth.

At least concerning the original cast, I think this could be the most balanced Street Fighter ever.

As for the newcomers. I think Ibuki, Juri, and Makoto are going to be in the top tier, making it the biggest top tier of any SF ever. I think Dudley might become the new Sagat, but a less dominant version of Sagat at the top level of play, I'm hoping. I think Juri and Cody are going to be A tier. I think Hakan and T.Hawk could be A tier or B. tier. I think Adon, Dee Jay, and Guy are going to be bottom with Guile and Claw once again. This is just speculation and opinion based on what I've seen.

Overall I can't fucking wait for April. I am still maining Rufus, and from what I've seen Rufus is going to be even stronger simply because his two worst matchups have been balanced. I also think Rufus will become like the counter pick to Dudley. EX messiah should be able to stop most of his mixup game, depending on whether or not invincibility frames have been nerfed (from what I've seen this isn't confirmed either way) it should be able to stuff swing back blow, and that's huge because most characters are going to have no answer to that whatsoever.

Oh and Team Battle. I've already put together what I feel will be one of if not the best Xbox Live team, and I'll put my Pittsburgh boys up against any team GAF has to offer. Let the games begin in 33 days.

Sagat can still TU trade into roundhouse ultra. Timing/spacing just looks a little more strict.

I believe Ryu can still trade into Super. Just not ultra. Don't take my word for it though.

I'm fine with the life and damage nerfs to Sagat. I don't get the s.short nerf though shrug

I am fine with trade into super.

I felt that Sagat needed one of two things: either take away armor breaking from TK, or remove the lk TK lockdown bullshit he has. Either way that had to be adjusted.

He's still Sagat, he's just fair now, and I don't see any reason why he won't still be at the top of the game... he just won't be in his own tier anymore.
