And really, nerfing the high tier is supposed to make lower tier characters "more" viable against them, but I think what they should have done is buff the lower tier characters to make them better overall.
To some extent they did do this...


...but not for Gen or Guile, apparently.

Really? Isn't the ultra initiated after he jumps to the wall? I thought you could choose whether or not you wanted to do it when you got to the wall.
You might be thinking about his super.

With the buffed ultra 1, Claw now basically doesn't fear fireballs at all since ultra 1 goes through fireballs and will juggle the fireballer as he dives into the wall then doing full ultra.

Other than that, with the speed of the wall dive from ultra 1, it can also be used to punish whiffs and blocks from big moves.

And with all the nerfing, Sagat will still likely only have 1 for sure (Akuma) and maybe two close losing matchups from the vanilla cast. Sagat will be fine.
 
Does Sagat's uppercuts still have good invincibility? If they do then I guess that's the trade off for having a more damaging uppercut. Ryu's fierce DP does more damage, but only a well timed DP will not trade or get beaten from the looks of it now. Maybe the same will apply to other characters with more damaging multi hitting DP's like Dudley. At least I hope that's the case because it would suck if Sagat has a low damage DP and Ryu has a DP with less invincibility, but then someone like Dudley gets the best of both worlds :-/

Hardly a nerf period to me. He needed a massive nerf- like 2i to 3s Sean.

And Ryu was S-tier same as Sagat.

i'd like to see the whole top tier nerfed equally and low tier buffed up some, that would be perfect logic. it's not like sagat was an unbeatable beast, when apparently only a smaller percentage of players could tap his full potential. that's why you see the typical ryu spam in everydays street fighting.

Experience against a character is all you need to discuss specific match-ups provided your opponents make good use of their options though. By your logic people who main single characters are inept to discuss the rest of the cast. :/

I think it's great that Sagat got nerfed, but I admit it has to take something special to get really good with the guy, I hate using him, even the shittiest flowchart Ken has a good chance against me with Sagat. The guy moves like he's underwater AND superglued to the ground. Yuck.

So Amazon pre-order bonus gives alts for Guile, Blanka, Dhalsim, Gen and Fei Long...None of whom I play regularly. Are there any other places offering different packs?

I'm bailing out, any nerf is a nerf too much, have to charge up his uppercut? I didn't pick him to be joke tier in Super.


I never played as Sagat in SF4

i like how people are like yeah "he will still be good sure!" but have no explanation as to why. instead you get scrubby ass answers like "ppl only pick him so they could win easier".

I guess. I'm hoping the changes turn some of his 6-4's into 5-5's. I just hope all his 5-5's don't turn into 4-6's if that makes sense. Yeah yeah, tier lists and all that. I'm just trying to look at it from the perspective of a character I use and really like losing tools and having damage cut where I don't feel it needs to be cut. Plus, everyone in the game is getting cool new tools. I'm excited about the prospects of Chun's new Ultra. Sagat gets an Ultra that seems to do crappy damage, and he gets a way to power up one TU so it will do the damage people are used to it doing but takes an EX bar. Not changes to be excited about for Sagat players.

Except in tournaments where the character-lock rule is enforced, of course. ;)

isn't leaping kick df+hk? how can you link that to ultra if you have to charge down-back?

*edit* Regarding nerfs: The most deserved nerf so far is for all the DP chars to lose to meaties on wakeup. That was very much needed.

You're already charged forward, so it'd be an extra slide. Like I said, tricky, but it'd be doable.

Edit: Well, actually. Now that I think of it, when I use that kick, I'm already back charged. I can see it being done without too much of a hitch.

It's prob going to be like SFIV. First pack free, each pac kone week later, then 2 months later everything for half price. Just wait for deal.

What?! Sagat is getting a damage reduction? I thought they were only taking away lk business and lowering health... Whateva, I don't main him currently but he is still fun as hell to play as (high kick FTW!) and giving him a fireball ultra is gonna allow for even more fun opportunities.

Tiger Uppercut does 100 damage now. In fact it's pretty safe to start calling it Tigger Uppercut.

let's not forget Sagat is currently the only known char that has retained most, if not all of his DP trade bullshit.

Basically, I have zero sympathy for any shotos or shoto-like chars getting nerfs. The gameplay system heavily favored them in vanilla, good to see that the playing field might be evened up. My only problem is why they decided to take out DeeJay's EX dread kick > ultra.

ohhhh! meh, if that's all I wouldn't be too worried. It wasn't exactly an integral part of his arsenal(damage wise) in the first place.
