The Order: 1886 Delayed Into 2015. [Stop talking about MS lineup]

Not quite. This is an interesting development, but I think people atm are undervaluing the role of 1st party exclusives and over-valuing the role of 3rd-party multiplats. I know when I got my PS1, I got it for the exclusives. Same for PS2. Same for PS3.

I personally buy consoles for unique, exclusive games to those consoles. 1st parties absolutely differentiate consoles...just not as much as in the past. The people showing concerns that Sony (and MS) are relying too much on 3rd parties to set the agenda for their systems...and aren't masking that behind uncalled-for game/studio/console bashing...aren't in the wrong. I also happen to be one of those people. If folks really want the top multiplats, they could go PC.

This isn't directed towards anyone in particular, but I'll just say: alright, there are some trolls who are gonna go hard to paint the PS4's line-up this year as terrible, taking prominent delays like this into account. We can shut that down without marginalizing the importance of 1st party content for the platforms, because they are important and delays like this hurt almost as much as they help.
I really dont think its possible to undervalue third party exclusives or over value 3rd party in current market. Sales of frabchises and reception of PS3 and 360 strongly indicate for the majority of console purchasers price point, perception of better version of big franchises (COD, BF, AC, etc) and trending online community all matter more than 1st party exclusives now.

This isnt to say 1st party doesnt matter but it seems to trail those others for general demand now. Most purchasers wont have a PC nor will they buy both consoles so for the average consumer everything is excusive to an extent and its about the feeling theyre getting better versions of games and more value for their investment that matters. Those factors are cleary what have hurt MS so far despite having decent excusives so far.

As a result id argue while not ideal (and obviously bad for the minority buying more for 1st party excusives) the delay of titles like The Order wont hurt Sony much so long as in general there are enough games and they retain the perception of better price and better versions of big multi-platform titles.

Seperately im surprised people react to Sony delaying games now - its clearly their general ethos going back to PS3 to delay rather than push games out if they still have rough edges. This should surprise no-one. EA as an example go the other way every time and the results speak for themselves so TBH id rather the delay than push out unfinished or unpolished titles.

I mean it sucks in simple terms - obviously if they could have hit their original target then that would be better but a delay vs rushing is the lesser of two evils id argue.

Another 8-9 months......

Console gets way easy to develop for compared to the PS3, 1st parties are nowhere in sight.

What the hell happened to this?

I agree, When i heard Cerny talking of bringing back the ps1 days of multiple games being diverse and released pretty quickly of 1-2 months, It was a part reason why i switched back too the playstation as i was xbox the last 10 years, And i loved the ps1 era as it was a golden era.

Seems it was indie's he was referring too, And i respect indies but didnt buy the console for it.

The PS4 took an early lead because it wasn't the XBO, now the XBO won't catch up because it's not the PS4.

People were avoiding confusing anti-consumer bullshit, and now the PS4 is just the one with the momentum and dominant in mind share.

The winners of each generation don't actually tend to have much in common, there is no single thread linking them. Price, performance, date of availability, third party, first party, brand loyalty, none of it holds up with all winners. One of them is just the most desirable each time.

Delays don't bug me at all. This is a day 1 purchase for me and I'd prefer to get as polished a product as I can get.

I have a huge backlog of games; so really... who cares in the grand scheme of things?

As a passionate gamer; I'm willing to give these guys all the time they need. I'll be ready when they are ready.

I guess when you've been on the other side of one of those announcements; you realize a lot more the amount of work and pressure that leads up to those decisions. A lesser studio with a lesser publisher; would release that thing with imperfections time could have solved. This is usually the right call and they will be humble for it.

When you are given a second breath of time like this; suddenly all those cool things you really wanted that were "out of scope"; start finding their way into the product. That is the sort of best judgement these talented folks have; but time and money don't allow it. These guys have that and I have faith that they will make the most of it.

Brand loyalty doesn't mean much in the US. Only time we really saw it was NES to SNES and PS1 to PS2. Even then, the Genesis and SNES were neck and neck.

Do not care about the delay, it will help improve the gameplay and story.

I have the feeling Sony has something important to show at E3 that some how will replace the hole this delay caused.

Popularity builds popularity. PS4 should ride a wave of success for awhile

Superior specs, better multiplats, PS+ and overall much better value for your dollar (incoming price parity notwithstanding)

First party exclusives will be added to the above list soon enough.

shame about the beige monolithic elephant in the room.

Really the only reason this game isn't as far along as it should be on top of other 1st party games is due to shit planning on Sony's part. Too many resources were wasted on the PS3 the last couple of years and the PS4 is paying the price for it.

Yeah. Damn Sony, supporting their consoles.

Guess that's maybe the biggest factor.

I'm kinda looking at this from a personal POV tho, but it don't really bother me too much as long as the games I want come along in a reasonable time frame. I'm waiting for Morpheus before caving in to a PS4 anyway ;)

This game needs a DLC co-op mode and a photomode.
I'd kill for a pseudo portrait mode. Give me the power to feel like Rembrandt with none of the actual talent.

Realistically, what game or thing could Sony show off at E3 to fill the spot left behind by The Order for this fall? Not much comes to mind.

It's the beginning of next gen, every developer need time to build their game engine for that, once they have establish enough asset, dev will work more efficient.
This is RAD first AAA console games, give them time to build foundation, earn their reputation. I hope this bring another quality studio to the industry rather than watch them come and go.

Crash
Jak
Shenmue prologue
Heavenly sword 2
New warhawk
H-hour beta for all
Battle arena toshiden...

I know, just wishful thinking

I know it doesn't seem like much but what about a surprise? Though I highly doubt it I think all would be forgiven if they announced a new game we haven't seen and then had the release date this year...

I wish that was the case with the GG RPG rumour hanging around. Anyway, it is expected that there will be some delays - as with all generations at the beginning. But I expect it to get better.

I don't think you realistically have any idea how fast this was all put together relatively. This is how launches go or have you never been in a hardware launch period? Seems pretty naive that people thought there were going to be like 5 heavy hitters by now. I mean come on people what are you smoking these games take time. The games are going to come. Meanwhile go get a PC or WiiU or something. There are so many games out there to play.

Order gameplay

Uncharted 4 gameplay

Demon Souls 2 gameplay

Last Guardian gameplay

Show these four at E3 conf and the whining will stop once and for all and ppl will be looking forward to 2015.

I won't be getting a PS4 until The Last Guardian comes out (not when it gets re-announced but when it is actually out... won't fall for that again, haha) so I am fine with any delay to games in order to polish things further.

Well.... you might be waiting a while... (if not forever?)

Good news. That last gameplay footage they showed revealed that they still have ways to go before there is a good game. It worked with DriveClub so why not with this?

Yeah. Hopefully they will increase the game's length to a little bit more than 2 minutes as well.

You gonna wait forever, pal. :P

Please name "all the PS4 exclusives" now.

i guess i got upset when i was reading this news. my most anticipated games are drive club, project cars and the order. the first 2 takes forever and now this.
For now i just play watch dogs and keep it calm.

This has "Potentially too ambitious for its own good" written all over it. I don't expect to see this game until fall next year, at the earliest.

What is ambitious about this?

Plenty of directors have made interactive movies. David Cage has been around what, 15 years by making interactive movies?

Yah from personal POV the exclusive delays suck as I'm a PC/conse gamer so they do hurt the amount of games I consider available on consoles - probably my main gripe with Sony is the speed of deliver of games and how slow they seem to be to switch from heavy support of previous gen to current one.

But I guess on PS3 front I can't complain - I just reckon they should target some cross gen titles themselves but I guess they want most big games to really focus on one gen and really deliver on that hardware.

Still between PC and PS4 there's enough to keep me busy I guess.

I don't get the whole anguish over slight delays. Most people would have been happy if it release December 15. But if its February, the world is ending?

I mean what is the big difference? Delayed from 2014 to 2015 is not literally a year, it's a few months

ITs a big deal because this is the holiday season when these guys are supposed to release a bevy of new titles for us to play and they have a lineup so meager right now, its depressing,

A delayed launch game and a remake of a PS3 title means there is a wide gap in Sony's release schedule People would be fine with the delay (myself included) if there were other titles to fill the void. Right now, the holiday timeframe seems utterly vacuous for the most part.

I hope that those who claim E3 will improve things are right. I'm willing to give it a "wait and see" attitude. I just hope Sony can deliver for us.

I think if Sony just got 1 or 2 more titles out there for this holiday, they would be just fine. Lets keep our fingers crossed and pray that they've got an ace or two up their sleeve.

I'm curious...do you have any of this same worry for Microsoft? Because right now their ace in the hole for this year is a remaster too (not counting Sunset; looks fun as hell but niche), so they're in a very similar predicament.

If not there can only be one of two reasons why.

probably my main gripe with Sony is the speed of deliver of games and how slow they seem to be to switch from heavy support of previous gen to current one.

Well games are generally getting more costly and complex to make. More powerful hardware, better-looking games. But it's funny, b/c the supposed gains in hardware efficiency seem to cancel out the ever-growing ambitions.

I don't mind ambition, hell I embrace it. I just want it to go the right way. On another note I really hope Order is playable @ E3, it's time we got some hands-on impressions.

The only E3 announcement Sony can make that would make me feel like a kid is UT99/UT2k4 on PSN.

I would love to play UT99 again.

Yes, your quite right and indeed I do have some real concerns for MS's lineup this fall.

Right now I could theoretically see them releasing: Sunset Overdrive, The Halo Collection Deal, and maybe Forza Horizon Next.

Not very impressive either.

However, I am generally less concerned with MS. "Why?" you may ponder. Simple answer: MS when their lineup is lacking, has a strong tendency to harness the immense money reserves they have at their disposal to BUY exclusives.

Sony, on the other hand, has no propensity for such actions.

I'm confident it'll be worth the delay.

Damn... Anywhere I can watch an HQ source of this?

And how is the bolded a good thing?

Buying exclusives doesn't strengthen your product, it merely weakens the others which is not the same thing.

But then again, MS's philosophy has always been about punishing those who don't own their product, rather than rewarding those who do.

"Waiter, where is my Order?"
"Sorry sir, the chef has asked that all Orders be returned to the kitchen. It is no longer on the menu."
"For how long?"
"Until next year. In the meantime, may I satisfy your appetite with some rehashed Battlefield, Call of Duty, or Assassin's Creed?"
*sigh*
"No, thank you. I'm just going to go have some Taco Bell with a sweet, delicious Baja Blast™"

YOU'RE THE REASON I'M SLOWLY BECOMING FAT, SONY.

so your getting fat because of all the games right? I thought so, so many games to play. Enjoy! who needs sunshine. :P

Why do they have to buy exclusives when they have 1st/2nd party studios (many of them with at least 2 years of development) working on PS4 games...? I don't know why I have to keep telling you this when I provided evidence for everything I said.

What's wrong with you?

Greatness awaits. in 2016.

Good thing for 3rd party as Sony's 2nd half of 2014 is anywhere between abysmal to non-existant in terms of their own WWS. I'll buy TLOU again when it comes out though.
Fixed! A year ago today too!!!

Bought the bundle. Loves Ryse and media wasn't to happy about it
