Infamous was the Thursday before the Friday release right? Feel like we'll get the same thing here.

Sony generally plays it pretty safe with embargoes, although they're so confident with Naughty Dog games that they do up to a week in advance.

If I remember correctly, sly cooper 4 and TLOU reviews came out a few days before the games were released.

edit:Yeah I put sly cooper in there, love that series. Infamous SS reviews were out on a Thursday

I have a feeling it's going to be mayhem when the reviews start hitting regardless of what scores it's getting. Exciting times we live in.
Yeah you're definitely right. People are really still looking for that big next gen franchise that we'll be sticking with for the next few years, and so far none of the new ones have really delivered. Although Bloodborne is technically a new IP we all know what to expect and what it will play like. The Order is next on the list to see if it will be one of the first next gen games to live up to its potential, which is both exciting and scary at the same time. Basically, we're still looking for the next Gears not in terms of gameplay but in terms of a game that established itself as the next big thing.

Here's hoping the game turns out fantastic. It seemingly has all the pieces together in terms of presentation and story, so the question is if the game play and overall pacing holds it together.

I can honestly say I'm more excited for the review thread than the game. It should be gloriously awful on both sides of the line in the sand. It's been great watching the fireworks from a position of indifference.

I fully expect this game to get heavily panned by certain critics, but I also predict I'll quite enjoy it myself and end up disagreeing with many of the complaints upon my own play through. Been getting that a lot lately when comparing my own impressions with those of many journalists.

Hopefully critics appreciate the game is a linear cinematic story focused TPS title, and judge it for how well it pulls that off, instead of berating it for not being some other genre or type of game it never intended to be (Eg, less cinematic or more open world).

Yep Infamous SS reviews on Thursday for a Friday release.

So hopefully we see The Order reviews next Thursday too

could you summarize what they said?

Eddie (first link)

- played 30 minutes of the airship level at an event
- thoroughly impressed, "and I mean impressed on the level of The Last of Us"
- loved the premise as soon as he heard of it, thought he was overhyping himself, but not the case, is even more excited
- looks gorgeous, "by far the best looking game out", especially cloth, particles, hair
- rock solid 30fps
- high quality animations and tight cover system
- high attention to detail, little handmade touches on weapons, blood and wounds staying on characters during cutscenes
- did not listen through headphones but said faces and characters were detailed enough to know what was going on even without dialogue: "I got that Galahad was doing something troubling to everyone else, making a decision that everyone didn't want to happen but knew had to"

I'm in the same boat. In my backlog I have

Dying Light
DA:I
GTA
Sunset Overdrive

All I want is a focused, linear, hold my hand and make me feel like a bad ass experience. I love open world games but it seems everything is open world now and I miss that old school linear style sometimes.

A guy from a localized gaming forum is a few chapters through the game (he has the game and some trophies from it on his PSN account so I don't think he's making it up) and is basically saying that the game is raising the bar for TPS genre, graphics and storytelling and could be a very serious GOTY contender from what he's seen so far. So, yeah...

All these hyped up impressions is killing me. I hope this is the game is the next big tps.

Had tempered my expectations for this one, but reading the impressions, and seeing the unbelievable IQ has me thrilled. Loved the gunplay in TLOU, and the comparison has me giddy, along with the sound + characterization. Super excited for Tuesday!

I'm loving the impressions but trying to keep my expectations in check. I've seen people hype games of every quality. I'm keeping myself convinced I'll get a competent shooter with a good story and anything else is just gravy

I appreciate the impressions, but these super hyped early reactions don't do much for me. I'm more interested in hearing from someone who's finished it and is going back through with a clear head. It's too easy to be wowed by these kinds of titles on the 1st playthrough, myself included, and especially when the tech is as crazy as it is in The Order.

Yup. It happens with every game especially when it's from early players.

Yeah, happens to me too. Needs to sink in a bit.

The weapons and gear in this are beautifully done.

Not quite sure the threads will live up to the expectations expressed in this thread.

Even though I've been all over these threads and am clearly excited for the game, I feel like I have reasonable expectations for the quality. This is RaD's first TPS and first AAA game, after all. I just adore the setting and am very much in the mood for narrative driven, linear shooter right now. Plus, I want to see what the PS4 can really do when it flexes its hardware.

Was reading about the game and it seams Ru points to MGS as the biggest influence in how the story is told. That is a way to win me over, they are very good at speaking about their game, at the very least they are pretty good salespersons.

I'm getting this game as soon as I get a PS4, its hard to not just get one now in time to play this game and Bloodborne.

Shouldn't that euphoric feeling factor into the review, though? I agree that it shouldn't be the ONLY factor, but I know the feel from playing through U2 or TLOU for the first time is truly special, even if you can never get it back on subsequent playthroughs.

I have a feeling I'm going to love this game but it's not going to review well. Really hope I'm wrong on that part, while I may not personally give much weight to reviews and metacritic, they definitely have an impact on sales, and if the game is good I hope it sells well (and to help with that, review well)

It's really gonna irk me if "not open world" or "not innovative enough" shows up as a main negative point in a prominent review. So tired of that shit.

Anyways, we will see in a week how this turns out.

Reviews are a serious toss-up with this game. I have a feeling it's going to be very polarizing. Reviewers are going to love it or hate it.

I'm going to love watching the bolt on the rifle kick back after each muzzle flash

I'm going to love watching shell casings suspended in the air during slo-mo.

I'm going to love the wild west revolver quick draw animation while fighting my way out of a pinch.

It's the little thing that will give this game a level of polish that has yet to be seen.
