The Outer Worlds 2 is $80 (via Steam Page)

Think they wised up that Australia wasn't paying their extravagant fees.

This is equivalent to $65US.

... Why would you kick off $80 pricing with Outer Worlds 2 when you have Call of Duty right around the corner?

Even Nintendo was smart enough to sell Donkey Kong for $70 and use their biggest franchise to try to normalize the $80 price tag.

Even setting aside the consumer outrage angle, this seems ... dumb?
Nintendo sold their game as a pack in for 40 ish

Did your price go up when US shifted from $70-$80?
$110 is what we were already paying in Australia, and MKW is still $110 under the new pricing.

I always thought we got massively duped from the $60-$70 price increase though, bout time we got some rebalancing.
Yup. Prices went up. At $70 US, games are $90-95. But checking Mario kart world, $110 beans!

$110 is right on the spot with currency conversion. That's actually interesting it's so high because historically, consoles and games are not so exact. At $70 US, a $95 CDN price is spot on. But most games at $90. And console prices would often be slightly discounted too vs the exact currency ratio.

But looks like Nintendo is going right for $110, instead of $105 giving gamers a slight break like Xbox and Sony games.

EDIT: Just checking now, Gamestop.ca has some Switch 2 games at $115! That's the same as $84 US. So looks like Ninty really hosing Canadians going beyond. Best Buy is similar with some $115.

No, that's what you get for buying Mario Kart World. You didn't buy Mario Kart World, right?
Nope. Not even a Switch 2 yet. I also haven't bought many $70 games either. This isn't just on Nintendo, because Sony started selling $70 games and most were fine with it. So that's what you get for accepting the slippery slope.

I have absolutely no idea why anyone thinks this is an even remotely good idea but ok. Going to go about as well as that Bungie game I can't even think of the name of at the moment. I just want to call it Anthem 2 for whatever reason.

I think what annoys me the most is that I make 60K a year meanwhile these morons coming up with these choices make at least double that and maybe even 3-4x that...GTA VI can get away with an $80 price. The next Mario will. 99.9% of games are not Mario or GTA. I guess they'll learn the hard way.

Microsoft's strategy is to price games so high that subbing to gamepass is cheaper.

Whether it's a sub to gamepass (easily found for $20 a month online) or waiting for the game of the year edition to go on sale for $20, my rule of waiting for $20 or less for non-essential games still holds.

You're assuming that they are artificially increasing the price point, thus lying about the "real" reasons for the price increase of their games.

if their plan is to offer lackluster games at 80-100USD... what makes you believe people are going flood game pass to play shit?... No, people ain't gonna sub nor buy shitty games.

the price increase will have to reflect the value and quality of the game more than ever. and because this is true, increasing the price of games while keeping GP at or lower than $20....will exacerbate Game Pass's implosion

Using past trends as a guide, especially with Microsoft releases, even using third party sites you'd be looking to pay around £57 ish for the standard game.

Microsoft will not get a penny from me for this and they will not force me onto gamepass either. Greedy rotten cunts just like any other company trying this. No chance I'd pay the rumoured cost for Borderlands 4 or even more for GTA6, let alone this game.

In terms of the game, I thought the first 1 was OK at most until they released an "updated" version that cost a lot of money again (got it after a while as a Humble Bundle or Choice), that broke the performance and made it worse.

Fire thousands of staff, raise game prices to an insulting amount, produce the odd very good game, but a lot of mediocre games, and wonder why you've fucking sucked for years.

It'l be half price within a year, I used to buy so many games at launch, until they started scamming us. I implore you to become a patient gamer, and make use of your backlog from time to time.

As always people will speak with their wallets. If $80 games don't sell well, we'll see fewer of them. If they do, we'll see more.

My bet is we'll see more because people want their games, they want them now, and don't have it in them to wait for sales and price drops months down the line.

It would need to be a gigantic step up from the first game to justify an $80 price, but I'm just not seeing it from the gameplay previews I've watched.

It's pretty clear they are trying to make the price undesirable on platforms like PS5 and Steam to make Gamepass increasingly appear to be a better value choice. I'm not so sure The Outer Worlds as a franchise has the pull MS is hoping for to drive subscriber growth however.

I've seen The Outer Worlds: Spacer's Choice Edition with all DLC included commonly on sale for around $20, so I will likely wait for a deep discount if I get it at all.

I don't see why gamepass imploding would be a good thing, but maybe I'm biased because I think paying less for things is better than paying more.

Good to see. These days I never pay more that $90 AUD on any platform, but I mainly play on pc.
I will have to check the PS store later on see if its more than $120.

The secret is... Obsidian has always been a AA studio. All their previous RPGs before Avowed had been low-mi budget, that excelled in the writing department . $80 for this is a fucking joke.

🤔... Call me petty, but to me, it's more about the satisfaction of not falling for these executives and their army of shills' bullshit.

"GP increases sales"
"Play Anywhere makes the Xbox ecosystem stronger"
framing Xbox's lack of growth on Gen Z and capitalism.

so on and so forth.

i mean, Phil Spencer's list of BS statement is something to be studied for years to come.

"Corporations are bad. We make fun of them in our game."

"Also, buy our AA-looking game for $80, when the first game was only $40, because we are now part of a $3 trillion corporation."

Obsidian and The Outer Worlds in a nutshell.

They would get away with it if this was Oblivion Remastered with its massive fanbase. Outer Worlds ip isn't strong enough to convince people to spend so much instead of using Game Pass. Especially since TOW1 wasn't a huge game and even picking up 1 month of the sub should be enough.

I mean, you can charge whatever the fuck you want for your games but the more you charge, the pickier I get. And this is not worth $80 in my opinion. Actually, I have yet to see a video game that is worth more than $60.

Microsoft is all behind raising prices of games. This will force more people into Gamepass just as they envisioned.

They need to get Gamepass on PS5 somehow. This would sell gang busters on Sony consoles

Well, they said that console and game sales don't matter as much as Gamepass subs.

And gamepass keeps growing. So the "value" is there.

And they only raised prices because Nintendo did first.

The more expensive games are, the better of a "value" Gamepass presents.

I'm not sure why you got so butthurt about my post.

Look, I'm in minority that liked OW for Firefly'esque atmosphere and slightly steampunkish vibe.

But holy shit does the second one feels more like a content drop instead of a proper sequel and charging anything more than 60 for it is a robbery.

But I digress. It's not the best choice, it's Spacer's Choice.

They really overestimate how much people are willing to pay to play this game.
Sales for this game will be dead on arrival. And most will play it on Gamepass for a faction of those 80$.

That's the whole point. Make buying the games so expensive that renting games on Game Pass becomes an attractive proposition.

80 euros is hilarious, but I have gamepass until 2027 so don't particularly care. Good luck with selling copies though. This might bomb worse than Avowed.

The first game was already the video game equivalent of reading material you'd find by the shitter and not worth my time for free much less $60. Charging more isn't going to do the trick.

It's crazy for me to even consider paying 80€ for the mediocrity that Obsidian delivers. Their games should be 40€ max.
